Mactan Diving - Reef, Wreck and Cavern
Music: Northwest by Scott and Brendo
FOR DIVE LESSONS: Email us at Juan.Naval@88dive.com
Jaime Lapac is Juans fellow Filipino Cave Diver based in Mactan, Cebu. He and his wife Rio, run Jaime's Dive Center and they knows Mactan dive spots like the back of their hand. He is NAUI certified and has the dive skills to back up his certification which makes me feel safe.
A few divers from Japan join us during our dives. Most of them are regular clients that fly in to the Philippines regularly to dive with Jaime and Rio. They say they like diving here, 'because it's very beautiful' and people are very friendly.
Jaime's place is a fun short ride to the jump off point. We get in a small truck, sit at the back, wave at the locals, smell food, fish, or even pig dung depending on the direction of the air. In a few minutes we're at the shore and a crew is waiting to carry our gear to the boat.
Mactan is replete with dive sites and in our itinerary were 3 marine sanctuaries, a wreck site and underwater cavern. We checked the weather, looked out, saw the big waves and thought this is ALREADY as exciting as it looks.

Thresher Sharks
2016 Dive Trip to Malapascua Island in the Philippines.
Dive Operation: Exotic Dive Resort/ 5 star PADI Dive Resort.
Shark Dives: Thresher Sharks at the dive site; Monad Shoal.
Sharks were present on every dive. Dive conditions varied every morning with light to moderate current. Dive time each day: 0430!(the sharks have sensitive eyes so they are at the site before sunrise) 30 minute boat ride to the site. Dive depth: 84ft using EAN, 32% to allow longer bottom time to spend more with the threshers. Monad Shoal is a huge sea mount. Home to various cleaner wrasse species making it a great cleaning station for the thresher sharks. No baiting is required on this dive. Just have patience, move slowly, and stay calm so the threshers will approach you while they are receiving a morning cleaning from the wrasses. This is a special place! The thresher sharks are magnificent. I was so lucky to have close encounters with them.
This is my first movie using my new go pro. Watch for more video movies coming soon.
Close encounters with Sea Snakes! Blue Ring Octopus, Bamboo Sharks, White Tip Reef Sharks, and so much more! Great trip!!

Best 10 Scuba dives in the Philippines
Just a few hours from the hustle and bustle of manila lies the idyllic island of
Mindoro, on the northern end can be found puerto galera a wild life heaven, with
tropical adventures to suit all tastes.
The natural world is here in abundance, its no wonder why it is listed on the national
heritage list of WWF,
Scuba diving, trekking and island hopping are all your disposal, and after a long day
soaking up the natural atmosphere the night life will keep you well dinned and
entertained, fine restaurants for all culinary tastes can be found to go along with
live music and dancing.
This coastal town is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many
snorkeling and Scuba diving spots. The area was designated a Man and Biosphere Reserve
of UNESCO in 1973 and has some of the most diverse coral reef diving in Asia. The
marine environment has benefited in recent years from the influx of tourist dollars.
This has seen a huge reduction in the number of fishermen in the area, as they gain
higher revenue from tourists.
Puerto Galera is a listed by the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World, and is
the only bay in the Philippines to be listed there.
Among the famous beaches in Puerto Galera are Sabang Beach and White Beach, which have
an active nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants. Both beaches also have an array
of first-class and economy-class accommodations.
Sabang beach is the main destination for foreign tourists, while White Beach remains
popular with local travelers.Big La Laguna Beach and Small La Laguna Beach are
considered part of Sabang with resorts lining the beaches. Big La Laguna Beach is
popular for local swimmers and snorkelers. Since 2001 White beach has seen uncontrolled
development. New restaurants and places to stay are rapidly encroaching on the beach
itself and little remains of the once charming beach. Puerto Galera town is a pleasant
but sleepy Philippine town with few attractions. It has a large central catholic church
and a Pier area, with a selection of bistros and cafes.
