SPIRITED AWAY | Real Life vs Anime ( Jiufen, Taiwan)
During my stay in Taiwan, my friend and I visit Juifen, the town where Miyazaki got some of his inspirations from for the animated film Spirited Away. Just before that though, we explored Jinguashi, 10 mins away by bus some ruins, and the history behind it.

Housing prices in the Taipei area decline slightly
The Ministry of the Interior’s Construction and Planning Agency announced the housing affordability index in the second quarter of this year. While the ratio of housing prices to income has gone down from last season, the Global Property Guide indicates Taiwan’s housing prices are down by nearly 3 percent when compared to last year.An investigation by the Ministry of the Interior’s Construction and Planning Agency indicates home price-to-income ratio for the second quarter of this year averages 8.6 across Taiwan, 16.1 in Taipei City and 12.9 in New Taipei City. As the figures are lower than last quarter, this has encouraged people to consider buying new homes.I wanted to buy a property in New Taipei City. But now I’ll also check out options in Taipei City as I might pay a bit more but will get a place with better cost to performance ratio. With the ratio of housing prices to income declining, the Global Property Guide also indicates that housing prices in Taiwan are down by 3 percent when compared to the previous year, the ninth biggest decline in the world and second in Asia.Charlene ChangTaiwan Realty SpokespersonFor first-time homebuyers, now is a great chance to buy as prices are going down. Sellers are likely to offer deep discounts or have more room for negotiation. According to real estate experts, as housing prices go down, first-time homebuyers should consider their budget and turn themselves into homeowners.

Taipei, Taiwan - 8+3 Awesome Things To See/Do
Need to book a hotel for Taipei or anywhere else? Using this link to book your hotel with Agoda will give you the same price great price and help us out with a small commission:
It's a vibrant city that is rich in culture, history, street food, and religion. Taipei, Taiwan-8+3 Awesome Things To See/Do showcases the best of what the city has to offer. It’s safe, super-friendly, convenient and probably undervalued compared to the super Asian city destinations of Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul. Ironically many residents of those cities choose Taipei as a destination, enjoying some of those qualities that their city once had or simply lacks.
Why the title 8+3 Awesome Sights To See/Do? Well most in Asia would be clued in to the significance of the number 8 and 3. In Chinese,(Mandarin), the word eight sounds similar to the word for prosper or wealth. It’s also similar sounding in Cantonese. The number 8 is an auspicious number.
The number three sounds similar to the character for birth and is also considered a lucky number. There are three stages to a person’s life-birth, marriage, and death.
So my wish is for prosperity and good luck for all those that visit Taipei, Taiwan and for the people of the city that have treated me with such great kindness and hospitality for the past 4 years. Would love to get your feedback on the video and ideas for future content. Also what other countries do you like to visit in Asia?
Thanks again with many blessings to you!

Get To Know A Tiny Taiwanese Fishing Village-Yehliu, Northern Taiwan
Yehliu Geo Park is one of Northern Taiwan’s top tourist sites attracting on average over 3 million visitors yearly. It’s a fun place and interesting spot with numerous natural rock formations including their most famous, “Queen’s head”, named so for it’s resemblance to the profile of Queen Elizabeth I, some even comparing it to Nefertiti. It’s a Disneyland for rock lovers and as you can imagine it’s usually crowded almost anytime during the day. Sitting right next to the park is the fishing village of Yehliu, which is usually quiet except for meal times when some of the tourists stray away from the geo park and food stalls and souvenir stands that surround it and head to one of the many seafood restaurants that serve the amazing bounty of the North China sea. Other than the density of seafood restaurants, that perhaps could not sustain themselves without the massive tourist attraction next door it’s a pretty typical Northern Taiwanese fishing village, with lots of men fishing off of the docks, boats in the harbour equipped with watermelon sized lanterns, numerous temples and shrines, and beautiful views towards the park and sea. I know that many will miss the charm of places like this especially if they are ferried in by tourist buses with guides that are in a hurry to meet the promises of a day spent seeing all of the sites of Northern Taiwan. Most are simply looking to rack up tourist spots visited with selfies to share back home, the traveller that judges a good trip based on the volume of places they've seen. There's nothing wrong with that if in the end you're satisfied with your vacation. However if you want to experience the real Taiwan perhaps even engaging a little with locals, like the man who showed me the squid eggs in one of his tanks, then spend more time exploring and worry less about the number of things you see. I've found lots of interesting places literally on the fringes of tourist spots. Always my biggest take aways are those moments of interaction with locals that are far more endearing than a checked off list of sites. But do see Yehliu Geo Park next door, it’s worth the visit! TAIPEI | Eating, Elephant Mountain, Leg Cramps, Sky Lanterns and More Food | 12 Days In Taiwan EP1
Touching down in Taipei, the first episode follows Will on his adventures while based in Taipei. Food is the primary mission on Day 1 as he eats through popular restaurants and a hyper local night market that should not be missed. There was also the hike up to Xiangshan which had glorious views but led to some serious immobilizing leg cramps (HOW EMBARASSING!!!). The second day featured a day trip with MyTaiwanTour to the famous Jiufen as the inspiration for Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Pingxi where sky lantern dreams are made of before finishing the day at the hyper touristy Shilin Night Market.

Day 4 05-25-18 Shifen Waterfall/ Yiyang Sea/Golden Waterfall/Jiufen Old Street
Shifen Waterfall
226, New Taipei City, Pingxi District, 乾坑10號
The falls' total height is 20 metres and 40 metres in width, making it the broadest waterfall in Taiwan.
Shifen Waterfall is a curtain style waterfall. Due to its similarity with the Niagara Falls, it is reputed as the “Taiwan’s Niagara Falls”. The voluminous water and mighty force forms mists on top of the waterfall. If the sun happens to shine upon it, there is the chance to see rainbows hanging over the waterfall.
YiYang Sea
Ruifang District, New Taipei City 226, Taiwan (ROC)
The complementary blue and yellow coloring of this bay brings to mind the ancient Chinese principle of yin and yang, the natural concept of duality.
Due to the pollution from nearby mining activities in years past, local belief has it that the coloration of this bay was caused by chemical runoff. Yet, even many years after the closure of all mines, the unusual hue of the water remains. After closer examination, it appears this blue/yellow coloring is a result of the insoluble floating iron ions from the heavy concentration of pyrite (also known as “Fool's Gold”) in the area.
Golden Waterfall
Jinshui Road, Ruifang District, New Taipei City, 224
Although real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed. The cascade of gold flowing down the hillside contrasts to the luminous green grass at its head.
Jiufen Old Street
Jishan Street, Ruifang District, New Taipei City, 224
Jiufen is a mountain town in northeastern Taiwan, east of Taipei. It's known for the narrow alleyways of its old town, packed with teahouses, street-food shacks and souvenir shops. Near central Old Street is the Shengping Theater, established in the 1900s and since restored. Close by, the Gold Mine Museum traces the town's history as a mining hub during the Japanese-era gold rush.

Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan. It’s known for Yehliu Geopark, a landscape of honeycomb and mushroom rocks eroded by the sea. Well-known formations named for their shapes include the Queen’s Head and Dragon’s Head. The park is also home to birds such as ospreys and little egrets. In the village of Yehliu, the elaborate, 19th-century Baoan Temple was built using materials from an abandoned boat.

OOPS (sorry!)... turns out my half-baked theory about the hotel at 10:30 is completely wrong! Thanks to the commenters that kindly pointed out the real reason (environmental regulations and an ongoing legal controversy).

You can't do much better than Taiwan for a convenient and scenic cycling trip! Made my way from Taipei firstly northwest toward the coast, then down the East Coast via Yilan, Taroko, Hualien and Taitung before crossing over to Kenting.
I ended the trip in Kaohsiung, deciding to skip on the traffic and stop lights along the main route back North to Taipei.

First launch from above the crib. Winds are a bit unpredictable atop towering apartments. Gusts flow up the sides and through corridors of buildings.
Apprehensive, but confident from practice, I took off. Key thing: take off quickly and deliberately. Get into the air. Yes. In the air. Flying around the neighborhood with views even Google Maps satellite have never revealed. Delightful.
This is a long take. I thought I would need to cut it up. But then I thought it's so earnest it stands among notable bits in film: those remarkable long takes in Hitchcock's Rope and Scorsese's Good Fellas.
This is a short film. Thanks to Cinematic Orchestra, All Things to All Men, this track makes this video.
