Le jardin Lecoq à Clermont-Ferrand, dont l'idée de sa création est née en 1745, verra ses emplacements changer au cours des temps dans des différents lieus de la ville, jusqu'à son emplacement actuel décidé le 6 frimaire de l'an II.
En 1859, Henri LECOQ réorganisé le nouveau jardin, qui prendra à sa mort, le nom de jardin Lecoq.
Avant la guerre 39/45 le grand bassin sous la passerelle servira au canotage.
Le jardin Lecoq très fréquenté, et très accueillant, où règnent la fraicheur et l'harmonie de ses massifs au pied des 300 arbres, dont certains rares et majestueux offrant une belle perspective, et à l'ombre desquels,, assis sur le bancs, les visiteurs d'un certain âge et les mamans avec leurs jeunes enfants, se reposent tout en appréciant la vue qui s'offre à eux.
Les jeunes, pour la plupart des étudiants, s'installent sur les pelouses pour profiter des premiers rayons de soleil printaniers et commencer ainsi leur premier bronzage tout en essayant de réviser les dernières leçons

Au nom de la rose ou la belle roseraie, pourrai-t-on dire en visitant cet espace aux nombreuses variétés de roses, les unes plus belles que les autres au moment de la floraison des rosiers.

Toute l'année les jardiniers de la ville entretiennent et composent les différents massifs qui seront créés avec les fleurs des saisons. Massifs multi couleurs que les visiteurs apprécient lors de leurs promenades.
Mes nombreuses visites au jardin durant 2010/2011, m'ont permis de faire ce petit montage, que j'espère vous plaira.

The Lecoq Garden (also called the Clermont-Ferrand Plant Garden ) is a public garden in the center of Clermont-Ferrand with a surface area of five hectares. The garden is located below the central plateau of Clermont-Ferrand. It is bounded by Lafayette Boulevard, Avenue Vercingetorix, Boulevard François-Mitterrand and Cours Sablon . It is located in the Faculty District, in the immediate vicinity of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Law, and the Interuniversity Library. The rectorate also sits in the park.
The first garden of plants was created here in 1780 by Father Delarbre. In the xix th century, the garden was redesigned by landscape architect Paul Lavenne, Earl of Choulot . His name pays tribute to Henri Lecoq , botanist Clermont. It has a bandstand and an artificial cave. François-Louis Jarrier builds the caretaker's house and the footbridge. The rose garden and the pergola along Avenue Vercingetorix are later developed in the interwar period .
If today the park gives pride of place to greenery and child's play, the Clermontois were in the past marked by the presence of two sea lions in a pit in the center of the public garden, the two animals then constituting a true attraction. Other animals have resided in Jardin Lecoq ( monkeys , birds ), and many ducks , swans , goldfish and koi carp are still found in the water. The Botanical Garden of the city of Clermont-Ferrand , now located in La Charme, was located in the current Jardin Lecoq between 1793 and 1912

Clermont-Ferrand is a university city in central France, bordered by the volcanic Chaîne des Puys mountains. Near the fountains and statues of Place de Jaude square are the Gothic Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral, constructed from lava stone, and the Romanesque Basilica of Notre-Dame du Port, with mosaics. Northwest of the city is the volcano-themed Vulcania amusement park and museum with interactive shows.
Clermont-Ferrand is famous for the chain of extinct volcanoes that ring the city, including the highest, Puy-de-Dôme, some 13 km away from the city centre. One of the oldest cities of France, its first mention was by the Greek geographer Strabo, who called it Nemessos, a Gaulish word for a sacred forest. The settlement witnessed the famous Battle of Gergovia, in which the Gauls led by Vercingetorix triumphed temporarily over the Romans led ultimately by Julius Caesar. After the Roman conquest, the city was renamed Augustonemetum, a name which combined its original Gallic name with that of the Emperor Augustus. Its population was estimated at 15,000–30,000 inhabitants in the 2nd century CE, making it one of the largest cities of Roman Gaul.
Clermont has recently opened a intra-urban tramway providing access to a number of key points in the city. This tram, known as Line A, starts at Champratel and travels southwards through the city center and the University campus before ending at the Pardieu trains station. Trams are frequent. Clermont-Ferrand also has an extensive bus network connecting the downtown to the outlying suburbs. The stations and stops are frequent and the map is not confusing. The buses are limited on Saturdays and Sundays.
