Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Málaga. It is located about 100 kilometres west of the city of Málaga.
its old town, Ronda is also famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting.
The Plaza de Toros (bullring) in Ronda occupies a very special place in modern Spanish culture and history as the home of the Rondeño style of bullfighting and also of the Real Maestranza De Caballería De Ronda. The bullring was built entirely of stone in the 18th century, during the golden years of Pedro Romero’s reign as champion bullfighter.
Welcome to one of Spain's most visited cities (and for good reason.) The little city is very compact and in fact from arriving in Ronda, to seeing the Real Maestranza bullring, the Puente Nuevo and El Tajo gorge, the many beautiful churches, our museums, or the wonderful coffee shops and tapas bars, they have it all within a short 30 minute walk.
If you're only in Ronda for one day be sure to read their Michelle Obama tour of Ronda, but if you're likely to be here for two days or more, then their most popular walks include the walk to the Virgen de la Cabeza, or Mr Henderson's Railway Walk. And, of course the spectacular Natural Park of the Sierra de Grazalema
Ronda’s most striking feature is the Puente Nuevo, which spans a gorge over 300 feet deep. Can you guess when the new bridge was built? 1793. That should give visitors an idea of how unchanged Ronda has been over the years. It’s also known as the birthplace of modern bullfighting. The town’s bullfighting ring is only used once a year, at the Feria Goyesca, but it’s also a museum where you can learn about the history of this traditional (yet controversial) sport.
in the early 21st century - Ronda retains much of its historic charm, particularly its old town. It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views.

Ronda, Spain - Casa del Rey Moro & Gardens
There is some mythology surrounding this spot; but one thing is certain - some breathtaking and beautiful views of Ronda are to be had from this location, including the Tajo Gorge and the Jardines de Cuenca, some of the various bridges and town.
The name given was Palacio del Rey Moro (by U.S. President McKinley's grandson) and stories grew that this was the home of a Moorish sultan and that there was a magical garden as well. No king ever lived here, since the home was built in the 18th century, and the gardens themselves were not created until 1912 (by the French landscape gardener, Jean Claude Forestier)
What is true is that there is an old Moorish secret water mine shaft built directly underneath, which once supplied Ronda with water during major sieges (we have a separate video up here devoted exlusively to that mine shaft - it was indeed a wonder to behold and an experience not soon forgotten). Across the way is Palacio of the Marqués de Salvatierra, a stately old home that now houses a museum.

Ronda Mondragón Palace (Pałac) [4K]
The Mondragon Palace, also known as the Ronda museum is again a mixture of architectural backgrounds, founded by the Moorish and later converted by Rennaissance and gothic influences; equally as Ronda´s famous cathedral which is just a few steps away.It is this style clash that makes it worthwhile a visit such as the typical Spanish patio with supreme carved wooden ceiling that leads you through a magnificient arab archery gate into the Alhambra like gardens with fountains.
The buiding rests on the outskirts of the Ronda cliffs looking out on the fantastic countryside. Several times a year exhibitions are set up mostly with national artists.
After your visit , preferably in the late afternoon, we recommend a drink at Maruja Limon just nextdoors to wonder a unique sunset with the mountains as a fab backdrop.
The legend tells that it was formerly home of the great king Abbel Malik or Abomelic, son of the Morocco’s sultan Abul Asan. Few years later after the death of Abomelic, the kingdom of Ronda was dependent on the kingdom of Granada, and it is also known that the last arab governor Hamet el Zegrí lived also at this palace.
It is difficult, without an archaeological exploration, to know the aspect of this palace at the arab age, but it can be assured that the building had to be organized around the courtyard next to the Tajo, adding also the garden.
The current space between the the two suporting walls of the façade did not exist. In the 18th century was built the exterior side of the façade, with an important masonry and double columns over a Dorian base and Ionic pillaster chapitel, being the top one pediment broken at its midle point in order to put inside one third decorative order consisting of pairs of Corinthian columns. All that decoration of the 18th century is shown at the ground floor adding also the halt and the formerly stables. It is also remarkable the noble room of the palace with a wonderful mudejar coffered ceiling.
