Jawahar Sagar Dam - A visit
Jawahar Sagar Dam is beautiful site for jungle roaming, tracking, boating, situated 29 Km upstream to Kota barrage towards Gandhi Sagar Dam. This was third hydro power project on River Chambal, commissioned in 1972. The first two projects were Gandhi sagar Dam and second was Rawatbhata project. One can reached to this place by road, on NH-27 towards Gaderia Mahadev Temple, at the junction at the gate go straight towards Jawahar sagar. The road is metal but is broken at many place. The journey along with this road is awe some and passage through forest area, one can encounter many birds on the way. It takes around one hour to reach the hydro project site. At the entrance of the project site we have to enter our details viz name, vehicle no and contact no at the register available there. This approach road is full of natural beauty , lush green trees all-around. It was raining when we reached here and the surround scenery was extremely beautiful , we stoped our car along the road and roamed around on foot took lot photos and recorded videos. The road was not in good condition and our car was Honda city which has got very soft suspension and low under car clearance, due to which the under part of car got struck at many points even after the most careful driving. The road was switching from bad to worst and at one point we decided to park the car and proceed on foot, but at the same time a forest ranger's jeep passed whose driver told that the road ahead is cemented road and we can drive upto the Dam site. So care fully we proceeded and reached to the dam site. It were all awe some experience, the whole surrounding was lush green long trees. One the dam site the right side was jawahar sagar dam with quite and calm water, and on the left side was the huge building covered the 3 no turbines connected with 3 generators of 33 MW capacity. The Potential energy of the stored water was converted to kinetic energy by means of a long pipe with nozzle at the end through which water jet was created which was falling on the blades of the turbine, rotating it. The electric generator attached with the turbine rotates with it and generates electricity. The water after passing through the turbine is released on the down stream side through a big canal.
The boating in the lake is arranged throughout the year except during monsoon months. On the the way we encountered refreshing waterfalls, we stopped there sit around and took some memorable snaps.
Tracking is arranged on other side of the dam site. Approach road is also available on other side which leads to Kota city.
After roaming around for about 2 hours we returned back as it was becoming dark. On our way back we again passed though the jungle area before Gaderia Mahadev where we stoped at many location as lot of birds viz wood pekker, the kingfisher, some green coloured unknown variety of birds were sitting on the nearby trees.

Kota Barrage is the fourth in the series of Chambal Valley Projects, located about 0.8 km upstream of Kota City in Rajasthan. Water released after power generation at Gandhi Sagar dam, Rana Pratap Sagar dam and Jawahar Sagar Dams, is diverted by Kota Barrage for irrigation in Rajasthan and in Madhya Pradesh through canals on the left and the right sides of the river. The work on this dam was completed in 1960.

The Ranapratap Sagar Dam is a gravity masonry dam of 53.8 metres (177 ft) height built on the Chambal River at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan in India. It is part of integrated scheme of a cascade development of the river involving four projects starting with the Gandhi Sagar Dam in the upstream reach (48 kilometres (30 mi) upstream) in Madhya Pradesh and the Jawahar Sagar Dam on the downstream (28 kilometres (17 mi) downstream) with a terminal structure of the Kota Barrage (28 kilometres (17 mi) further downstream) in Rajasthan for irrigation.

PROJECT a masonry dam at RAWATBHATA ―RANA PRATAP SAGAR DAM‖ in district Chittorgarh. The dam and Hydro Power Plant constructedin the second stage of the Chambal project and was named ―RANAPRATAP SAGAR DAM and Hydro Power Plant‖ in the memory and
honor of the great warrior of Mewar, the legendary Maharana Pratap.
The Rana Pratap Sagar Dam is the part of ―Chambal Project‖. There are
three hydroelectric power stations: First at Gandhi Sagar , Second atRawatbhata Rana Pratap Sagar and third at Jawahar Sagar.RPS is balancing reservoir between G.S. upstream and J.S. downstream.This is followed by the Kota Barrage and water diverted from it isextensively used for irrigation purpose in parts of Rajasthan and MadhyaPradesh.The RPS dam was constructed between 1965 to 1968 and dedicated to thenation by former Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi .There are four dams in cascade on Chambal River in the stretch of 70 kmsas riverbed drops by about 120 meters between Gandhi Sagar and Kota.Kotan Thermal Power Station of 1060MW(e) is located at upsteam of Kotabarrage.This dam is used for both irrigation and generation of electricity. The totaldam length is about 1km and 25 feet wide.RPS hydro power plant consists of four units of each 43 MW. This plantserves electricity to Kota, Bhilwara and Gandhi Sagar. The generated
voltages are 11KV and transmission voltage is 132 KV.

रावतभाटा। चंबल नदी के तीसरे प्रमुख बांध जवाहर सागर कोटा डेम स्थित पन बिजलीघर की 33 मेगावाट की तीसरी इकाई को मरम्मत के बाद शुक्रवार को शुरू कर दिया।
इस इकाई के शुरू होने से जवाहर सागर बांध से बहाया जा रहा व्यर्थ पानी रुकेगा और बिजली के उत्पादन से आय भी होगी। कोटा विद्युत उत्पादन निगम के अधीक्षण अभियंता एच के पपनेजा ने बताया कि पनबिजलीघर को शुरू कर दिया गया है। इससे विद्युत उत्पादन किया जा रहा है। पिछले 9 दिनों से बंद जवाहर सागर पनबिजलीघर की तीसरी इकाई से 3 करोड़ की बिजली और 38 लाख क्यूसेक पानी व्यर्थ बहने के बाद विद्युत उत्पादन निगम जागा। दैनिक भास्कर ने इसकी प्रमुखता से खबर प्रकाशित की। जिसके बाद आनन फानन में पनबिजलीघर को ठीक किया गया। जवाहर सागर पनबिजलीघर की तीसरी इकाई को राणाप्रताप सागर बांध पनबिजलीघर के कर्मचारियों और अभियंताओं ने सिर्फ 6 घंटे में ठीक कर दिया।

The estimated generation potential of 473.0 GWh of generation has been exceeded in most years since its commissioning. The power station was officially declared open on 9 February 1970 by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. The dam and power plant are named after the warrior Maharaja Rana Pratap of Rajasthan.

The Chambal River Valley Development marked one of the landmark actions of the First Five-Year Plan launched by the Government of India in 1951, after India attained independence in August 1947. The Chambal River had not until then been used for any major developmental works, and was proposed to be developed under a joint initiative of the state governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The three-stage proposal, drawn up in 1953, called for three dams to provide hydroelectric power generation, and a downstream barrage to use stored waters released from the upstream dams for irrigation.[10] The river's drop of 625 metres (2,051 ft) between its source in Mhow and the city of Kota, which marks the exit of the river from its gorge section into the plains of Rajasthan, was seen as having great hydroelectric potential
