NEHRU BOTANICAL GARDEN GANGTOK SIKKIM
Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is a lush green expanse of land that enchants visitors with its serene beauty. Located near Rumtek Monastery on the highway, the Garden encompasses rare plants, trees and numerous species of flowers including Orchids of Himalayan region. This verdant green patch of land is maintained by the Forest Department of the Government of Sikkim under its unit of Parks and Gardens.
Established in 1987, Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden embraces several varieties of botanical species. Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden includes dense temperate forests of Oak too. It has not less than 50 different varieties of tree species. The wide range of plants and flowers is often regarded as the result of variation of altitude from 1800 mts to 2200 mts. The Garden is a concoction of well-nursed tropical and temperate plants.

Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Gardens and Ganesh Tok View Point in Gangtok
The Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Gardens and Institute Of Research, renamed after of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru located near Rumtek monastery in Sikkim, houses many species of orchid and as many as fifty different species of tree, including many oaks. You will be enchanted by the lush greenery, the colourful flowers and thick Oak forest. More than 50 different species of trees are present inside the garden, which is managed and maintained by the Forest Department of the Government of Sikkim. The garden also has a greenhouse, where different types of orchids are grown, and a small recreational centre. The best time to visit the garden is March to late May and October to Mid-December.

Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is one of the very popular tourist hangouts in Sikkim, 24 kilometers away from Gangtok and is easily accessible by road. Established in the year 1987 the garden is now preserved by the Forest Department. Blessed with mesmerizing beauty, Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden is full of greenery and serenity. It is located near Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. It is a home to several species of plants, trees and flowers. Beautiful Flowers and Orchids of the Himalayan region are present in abundance here. Its ideal location at a high altitude ranging from 1800 m to 2220 m is the reason for its rich variety of plants and flowers. The green house in the garden is a home to several varieties of Orchids. Good news for children there is a small area in the garden which is dedicated to children. The Garden is a concoction of well-nursed tropical and temperate plants. A huge greenhouse has been erected in the garden, wherever different kinds of Orchids are mature. A concrete pavement across the garden results in the hidden areas of the park and assures a stress-free saunter. On the opposite hill, one can see the rambling town of Gangtok. The botanical garden has several gardens inside. There are some waterfalls inside the garden. It also houses a beautiful lake that covers 17 acres of land. Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Garden of Sikkim is a perfect retreat from the noisy and crowded city life. Moreover, the serene nature and the calm and pleasant weather make it the finest spot for spending some quality time with your near and dear ones. You can enjoy the scenic beauty of the garden using the paddleboats available here. In addition, especially for children, a small recreational centre has also been made inside the garden equipped with see-saw, swings and merry-go-round. The best time to visit this garden is between the months of March to late May and from October to mid-December.

Sikkim has not only been blessed by nature with beautiful landscapes but also with different types of flora and fauna, some of which are of rare species. If we talk about flora, Sikkim is a home for different kinds of flowering plants, which are often exported throughout the world. In fact, the geographical positioning of the state has gifted it a repository of over 5000 species of flowering plants.
Sikkim has a rich heritage of different kinds of flowers which include poppies, gentians and primulas, the real treasures are the orchids and rhododendrons. Of the 5000 species of orchids known in the world, 600 can be found in Sikkim alone, along with 30 species of rhododendron. The climatic condition is favourable for horticulture and it has been flourishing, benefitting those who are involved in the business. As we know that orchid has a huge demand in the flower market which makes the growers to plant more varieties of orchids. Not only orchids but other decorative plants also find a good demand in the market.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden is situated at the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain, along the road to famous Chashmeshahi garden. Sprawling over an area of 80 hectares, this garden overlooks the vistas of famous Dal Lake. The garden consists of four sections- Plant Introduction centre, Recreational Garden, Botanical Garden and Research Section. There is a beautiful lake that offers paddle boat facility to the tourists. The garden boasts of around 300 species of flora including beautiful willow and cedar trees.
