Jayanti The Queen of Dooars & Buxa forest
Jayanti is about 22 km from Alipurduar district. Jayanti is called queen of the hill. A small village surrounded by hills and jungles in Alipur district, through which the river Jayanti flows. This river does not always have water, during the monsoon there is water and other times the water is very low. There are some slums along the river where some people live. During the monsoon, when the river is full of water, the people of slums cannot come. They are completely isolated. Some homestay have been set up along this Jayanti river and those who come from outside can stay here and eat. But the area belongs to the elephant corridor.

he Dooars or Duars are the alluvial floodplains in northeastern India that lie south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas and north of the Brahmaputra River basin. This region is about 30 km (19 mi) wide and stretches over about 350 km (220 mi) from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhanshiri River in Assam. The region forms the gateway to Bhutan.[1] It is part of the Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands ecoregion.
Dooars means 'doors' in Assamese, Bengali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, and Magahi languages. There are 18 passages or gateways between the hills in Bhutan and the plains in India. This region is divided by the Sankosh River into Eastern and Western Dooars, consisting of an area of 880 km2 (340 sq mi). The Western Dooars are also known as the Bengal Dooars, and the Eastern Dooars also as the Assam Dooars. Dooars is analogous with the Terai in northern India and southern Nepal.

'LATAGURI FOREST AS A TOURIST DESTINATION' - Exploring Dooars Region of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal
Covered by Dipak Kumar Singh in the deep forest of Lataguri. Lataguri is a wonderful tourist destination situated in the Doars Region of Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, India. The overwhelming natural beauty of Lataguri attracts the tourists around the globe. Further, the Dooars region politically constitutes the plains of Darjeeling district, the whole of Jalpaiguri district and Alipurduar district and the upper region of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal and the districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Goalpara and Bongaigaon in the state of Assam. This region is one of the very few places left in the country where nature is so lavish of her green facilities. The unending stretch of virgin forests is cress-crossed by the River Teesta and her innumerable tributaries.
Amazing Duars Part 1 (Jayanti- The Queen of Indian Forests)
The Dooars or Duars are the floodplains and foothills of the eastern Himalayas in North-East India around Bhutan. Duar means 'door' in Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magahi and Telugu languages, and the region forms the gateway to Bhutan from India. There are 18 passages or gateways through which the Bhutanese people can communicate with the people living in the plains. This region is divided by the Sankosh river into the Eastern and the Western Dooars, consisting of an area of 8,800 km² (3,400 sq mi). The Western Dooars is known as the Bengal Dooars and the Eastern Dooars as the Assam Dooars. Dooars is synonymous with the term Terai used in Nepal and northern India and form the only nitrate rich soil in India.
The Dooars belonged to the Kamata Kingdom under the Koch dynasty; and taking advantage of the weakness of the Koch kingdom in subsequent times, Bhutan took possession of the Dooars. This region was controlled by the kingdom of Bhutan when the British annexed it in 1865 after the Bhutan War under the command of Captain Hedayat Ali. The area was divided into two parts: the eastern part was merged with Goalpara district in Assam and the western part was turned into a new district named Western Dooars. Again in the year 1869, the name was changed to Jalpaiguri District. After the end of the British rule in India in 1947, the Dooars acceded into the dominion of India and it merged with the Union of India shortly afterwards in 1949.

Jayanti – queen of Dooars in West Bengal
Jayanti – a picturesque palce within the Buxa Tiger Reserve along the meandering Jayanti River is an ideal palce to relax and rejuvenate in the midst of nature. This somewhat off-beat destination is fast becoming popular as an eco-tourism hot spot. Often referred to as the “Queen of Dooars”, this picturesque place provides a perfect setting for a memorable tour. With no mobile network you will definitely enjoy the peace of true holiday and be able to spend some time discovering and rediscovering yourself. Time spent with your loved ones at this remotest corner of earth will definitely be an experience of a life time.
