Nairobi Jeevanjee Gardens 7.11.2016
Jeevanjee Gardens is located in Central Business District of Nairobi, just on the start of Moi Avenue. It is centrally located in the heart of city. It is small park of 5 Acres. The land for the park was donated to the municipal government by a philanthropist Ali Bhai Mullah Jeeavnjee in 1906. His statue is fixed in the center of the recreational park which is a serene and relaxing place decorated with classical sculptures, shady trees and artistic benches. Its ideal location in the center of the city has made it vulnerable to various adventurists who want to construct multi-storey plazas, business centers, markets, parking lots, theatres, etc. Many attempts have been made in recent past to replace this park with some commercial building but each time the plans were foiled by activists like Zarina Patel, granddaughter of Jeevanjee.
The entry to the Park is free. It is one of the best places to see the local culture as people from all walks of life gather here, enjoy the shade of dense trees, discuss topics of mutual interest, sing cultural songs and play board/card games. In a way Park serves as People’s Parliament. It is a good refuge from the noise and hustle bustle of the surrounding business quarters.

Nairobi Uhuru Gardens 6.11.2016
Uhuru Gardens is a large memorial Park in Nairobi on Langata Road, about 7 kms away from Central Business District (heart of city) towards Nairobi National Park. It was here on these grounds where Kenya's independence from British rule was announced by Kenya's first president, President Jomo Kenyatta on 12 December 1963 in a befitting ceremony. The British flag was lowered down and Kenya’s flag was raised here on that day. Hence statue of four soldiers can be seen here raising flag of Kenya near the towering monument. There are two significant monuments in the Uhuru Gardens. The first and most important is 24-metre high monument depicting Kenya’s struggle for independence. The second is a fountain constructed in 1983 marking the 20th anniversary of Kenya’s independence. Hundreds of Kenyans and foreign tourists visit this Garden daily to see these two monuments. Entry to the Garden is free but car parking fee is 200 shillings and camera fee is 5000 shillings which is too much in line of Kenyan tradition. Photography is prohibited in this Garden without paying a handsome amount. Uhuru Garden is not very beautiful as compared with Uhuru Park located in city center. It cannot be termed as a must-see activity.
