Jenukallu Gudda - Yellapur, Uttara Kannada (September 2018)
Jenukallu Gudda is about 20 km from Yellapur. It is the best Sunrise/Sunset point in Western ghats of Karnataka. Magod falls, Shri Ghante Ganesha Temple, and Shri Kshetra Kavadikere are close by. The roads are not good but motorable. During monsoon, the roads will be challenging.

The Bedti River from Magod falls cuts across the green hills and bounces all the way to join the Arabian Sea beyond the hills. The breathtaking view of the valley is worth a visit and during sunset the change in the scene is truly magical. There are three hills here, which are at a very high altitude. Elephants and Bison roam this part of the region and King Cobras slither in the forests.

Magod Falls:
It is situated 19 km away from Yellapur, in the village of Magodu. Here, the Bedthi river takes two distinct leaps to hurtle from a height of 650 ft. into a rocky ravine. Near the falls, there is a sunset point called Jenu Kallu Gudda where you can see a beautiful view of the sunset. There is a village called Kalache just 30 km from Yellapur. Hundreds of tourists visit this place every year. On the way from Yellapura to Magod falls, there is a lake in the midst of a forest called Kavdi Kere.
Jenukallu Gudda:
Jenu means Honey, Kallu means stone and Gudda means hill. This place is a viewpoint in the Western Ghats, which offers a panoramic view of the hills packed one behind the other. Jenukallu Gudda is situated 17 km from Yellapura. The Bedti River from Magod falls runs across the green hills and descends all the way to join the Arabian Sea beyond the hills. The view of the valley is especially scenic during sunset.
Viboothi falls:
Vibhooti is a small waterfall near Yana, about 50 kms from Sirsi North Kanara, Western Ghats. The falls gets its name from the Lime Stone rock nearby. After we pass the Vaddi Ghats we need to take a deviation at a place called Mabagi which is about 3 kms from the falls
Yana:
Yana is famous for these two massive rock outcrops known as the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara and the Mohini Shikhara (Shikhara means hill). The huge rocks are composed of solid black, crystalline karst limestone. Bhairaveshwara Shikhara is 120 metres (390 ft) in height, while the Mohini Shikhara, which is smaller, is 90 metres (300 ft) in height. Yana is also well known as a pilgrimage centre because of the cave temple below the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara where a Swayambhu (self-manifested, or that which is created by its own accord) linga has been formed. Water drips from the roof over the linga, adding to the sanctity of the place.
Francis Buchanan-Hamilton, a British official of the East India Company, surveyed the site in 1801. At that time, according to his reports, there was a population of more than ten thousand in and around this place. Over the years, people have migrated to other regions to pursue their vocations. At present, the place is inhabited by only a few families, one of them being the Pujari (priest) family.[1] With a 16 km trek, Yana was a trekker's delight during the 20th century. When a popular Kannada movie, Nammoora Mandara Hoove, was shot here and an all-weather road made which provides easy access, the place became famous and attracts thousands of tourists every week.
My Take:
I had been to Magod falls and Jenukallu Gudda 3 years back during monsoon. It was just amazing and I knew what to expect this time when I came back. Yana was in my bucket list from a long long time. My brother had been there in the 90's on a trek and had seen one photo. now though there is nothing to trek. It's still beautifull to see those rocks. Do visit but please keep those places clean. Vibhuti falls was not in our plan, but we just covered it as it was on the same route.
