Pune, a city located 200 km away from Mumbai, is the exemplary educational city of India. However, various areas of the city are slums not any different from garbage dumps, and the low castes live there, abandoned to worry about their survival each day. They are Dalits, the untouchables who are believed to bring misfortunes.
Despite the poverty and ignorance affecting the slums, changes started to appear after Kim Jae-chang, an opera singer, arrived in 2011. When he turned 50, he decided to come to India and spend his remaining life helping children become self-reliant. In order to accomplish his goal. he gathered a group of children from the slums and established Banana Children′s Choir. Here, Banana does not refer to the fruit but to a Hindi word meaning self-reliance.
However, the choir practice turns out to be a mess. The children constantly lie and skip lessons, but Kim Jae-chang stays committed to the choir as the leader. The biggest reason for the children′s maladjustment is their lack of self-confidence. Some of these children were not even registered at birth because of their parents′ ignorance.
Kim Jae-chang had to teach about self-love, consideration for others, gratitude and truth before teaching about singing. And eventually, the children started changing. Last winter, Banana Children′s Choir went on a month-long tour through Korea, touching the hearts of countless people. The members returned to India more mature, and their parents also began to believe that their children could live different lives.
After arriving in India, Banana Children′s Choir prepare for a special performance on January 26, the Republic Day of India. The stage is set in the slums where the children live. On that very stage, they perform to give to the neighbors what they found through music: hope.
For their entire lives, these children were treated with contempt for being the untouchables. Stories of dreams and hope they developed from Banana Children′s Choir are told on March 18, on Arirang Prime.
Song for You, Song for Me

On Day 17 of our trip to South Korea, we took a day trip to Jeongeup and visited the old house of Gim Dong-su, had a fantastic bowl of pork ribs stew, and a healthy Korean herbal tea.
00:24 Gim Dong-su House - This is a historical preserved home of Gim Dong-su who was a wealthy man. You can walk around his house and see how the elite formerly lived in Korea. Also, next door there is the Gwon Beon Culture and Art Academy, and we saw some traditional dance and enjoyed some traditional Korean tea.
5:11 Paepijeong (배비정) Restaurant - For lunch we drove over to a city called Jeongeup and went to a restaurant to eat pork ribs stew. The restaurant was old Korean style with the wonderful barrel can tables. It took a few minutes to prepare our food because the entire hot pot of pork ribs stew was made from scratch as we ordered it. It was well worth it, the meat was good and the mixture of all the ingredients was delicious and home tasting. Price - 10,000 Won ($8.68) per person.
9:31 Mu Du Rang - 7,000 Won ($6.08) per cup - Ssanghwa cha (쌍화차) - Jeongeup is famous throughout South Korea for its healthy herbal teas and drinks made from herbs. So we stopped at a cafe and had a delicious healthy tea that was made with twenty different ingredients.
12:53 Naejangsan National Park - 3,000 Won ($2.60) - Naejangsan National Park is a national park in South Korea that’s famous for its maple trees. We walked around for a while and visited the temple. Again, the nature in Korea is beautiful, and the maple trees, in full green and yellow colors, were beautiful.
14:45 Sangchu Twigim (상추튀김) Restaurant - For dinner we drove back to Jeonju and we went to a Korean snacks food restaurant called Sangchu Twigim (상추튀김). We ordered some of the most popular Korean snacks including gimbap, twigim, and some fish soups. The food was pretty good, but honestly I’m not a huge fan of Tteokbokki. Total price - 17,000 Won ($14.76) for everything.

Heart of Traditional
photographer Agnes Dherbeys was born in South Korea and adopted into a French family. She travels to the heart of Korea's traditional homeland, to Jeollabuk-do's Jeonju, Wanju, and Sunchang.
Agnes discovers local performance at the Jeonju International Sori Festival, tastes classic bean sprout stew in Nambu Market, and learns about the beauty of handmade fans from a dying breed of artisan. At Wanju's Wild Food Festival she is taken to 1970s Korea, before being swept into a village known for its modern take on jangseung totem poles.
Though the generations have changed, the beauty of the Korean spirit remains the same. Agnes journeys to Jeollabuk-do in search of the meaning behind Korean.

Exhibition at Korean Cultural Centre, India
Both the Korean traditional art works and the work of Indian contemporary artists have been exhibited at Korean Cultural Centre during Hanji Festival.
Korean Cultural Centre and The Millenium Jeonju Hanji Forum together hold Hanji Festival at Korean Cultural Centre in Delhi.
Hanji is Korean traditional paper. This festival strive to introduce Hanji in India while showcasing the evolution of its usage
through stationery and day-to-day objects. The creation of clothing with paper was unimaginable previously. Hanji is used in clothing, dolls, furniture, accessories, fans and as a sub-material for other pieces of artistic works. Through this festival, the multifaceted usage of Hanji will be displayed and is divided largely into four categories.
Hanji is Korean traditional paper and paper mulberry tree or dak tree in Korean, which is the key material needed to make Hanji. First, Hanji was used in ancient Korea for various applications such as document paper, construction and medical device. It was used to make books and royal records to keep them preserved for a long time. For the construction application, Hanji as wallpapers and window papers has insulation and ventilation effects and controls humidity. Also, Hanji was used as a medical device to stop bleeding.

2019 South Korea and China cultural and arts exchange
2019 한중 국제문화예술페스티발
Seoul and Beijing held a cultural exchange festival in Korea's southwestern city of Ansan today.
Both countries performed traditional dances and built connections through culture and art.
Seo Bo-bin was there.
2019 is the 27th year of diplomatic relations between South Korea and China, and to foster friendship and cooperation between the two countries, a joint performance of traditional dances from China and Korea took place at the Ansan Culture and Arts Center on Wednesday.
The event was held by the Korea-Asia Culture & Friendship Association and the Korea Cultural Arts Group in order to bridge the gap between South Korea and China and to communicate with each other through the art of dance.
Even though relations have been frosty recently, this concert can be a chance to break down the barriers between South Korea and China… and open a way for a continuous exchange of culture and art between the two countries.
By having such a huge scale of exchange of culture and art between the two countries, this is a great opportunity for us to introduce our culture to Korea.
This performance can make the friendship between South Korea and China closer and although this is the first time, hopefully it can help continue the cultural exchange between the two countries.
It's very exciting to be in Korea and it's a great honor to be performing and exchanging culture in Korea.
This first joint performance between South Korea and China could become a regular event, helping bridge the cultural gap between the two countries.
As this was the first event, it is very meaningful and we hope to have this maybe every year or every 2 years to keep moving forward with the cultural exchanges. In the future we hope to invite South Korean performers to China and have a joint performance in China.
Performers from both countries are looking forward to holding more events in the future to actively engage and exchange with one another.
