Korea 2019 Vlog # 5 - Jeonju Hanok Village / Gyeonggeojin Shrine / Ommukdae / Korea BBQ
30.04.2019 - Tuesday
My 6th day here in Seoul. Finally the weather is clearing up and we're heading to Jeonju. Another early start for us. We didn't booked the bus ticket so we need to go to the counter and buy the tickets. Took us 40 minutes to arrive from Hongik Station to the Express Bus Terminal. Actually I've been here before with my mom on Sunday. When we arrived the earliest bus we could get is on 08:20am and it's excellent class. Just spent a lil bit more than what we budget for but it's okay as long as we could get to Jeonju the earliest the better.
It's 2 hour and 50 minutes bus ride with 1 rest stop break for 15 minutes. The bus ride was smooth. I don't know. I felt really safe and comfortable riding express bus in Korea. (Done it before from Busan to Seoul) compared to Malaysia. I can't sleep a wink men. hahaha. Anyway, once arrived we head for 10 minutes walk to a main road from the bus terminal to catch the inter-city bus to the Hanok Village. The bus ride was about 30 minutes? Can't remember but hell yeah the driver was hella mad. lol but it was okay compared to when we get back from Hanok Village.
First we enter the Gyeonggijeon Shrine. Again, I'm not super fancy about history but since I'm here and of course Didi's here we enter the shrine. Hahaha. It's interesting and pretty. I wish we had something like old palace or house from years ago remain here in Malaysia. Sobbs. Then had a quick brunch inside the shrine. My mom prepared some sandwiches and boiled eggs for us. Then continue our tour around the shrine.
After the shrine we walk around the hanok village. We headed to Ommukdae. I was not ready for some hiking okay. LOL. My mom didn't join us for the hike. It was a steep hill but yeah Ren managed. LOL thanks to the little 1 hour work out afterwork daily. Then we took some time to chill out at a cafe. It was hot on that day. Remind me of how hot Malaysia is. We didn't eat any of the famous dishes in Jeonju (Bibimbap or Street Food) because we're not sure how safe it is for us to eat. Haha nevermind we go eat like a feast during dinner later. Then head back to the bus terminal. I think our bus were around 5.00pm. We bought the ticket as soon as we arrived at Jeonju.
Took us almost 3 hours to arrive or probably more? LOL then once arrived we head to Gangnam for some lamb bbq. Had a good amount of food then we head home. As usual we went around Hongdae area first before we head back to our airbnb.
Dinner : 쇼긴 Premium Lamb House
Address : 552, Nonhyeon-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul 06136 South Korea
Direction : Yeoksam Station (Line 2) Exit 6. Just walk straight for 10 minutes. You can see it on the opposite side. Just cross the road at the traffic light.

Historia del Arte:
Land of the Art:
Korean art shares traditional aesthetic concepts with the art of China and Japan, but developing its own style. The beauty of their art is in simplicity, spontaneity and sensation of harmony with nature.
Goryeo: from 918-1392.
The Goryeo Dynasty, also called Koryŏ, was founded by King Wang Geon, that unified the Three Kingdoms of Korea. He stablished the capital city in Gaeseong. Buddhism was the official religion.
Most of all the architecture of this period is lost because it was made of wood. There are some pagodas.

About painting, there are very beautiful buddhist paintings. In the images I just added some examples

Celadon Porcelain: celadon is a kind of pottery that was also famous in China, because it can reach the color of jade, a sacred stone. They were for the nobles and for buddhist temples
Joseon: from 1392-1910.
The Joseon Dynasty, also called Chosŏn, was founded by Taejo of Joseon, that moved the capital city again to Seoul. Buddhism was forbidden, and confucianism was the main ideology. Culture flourished, but the dynasty was weakened by the japanese invasions.

Jeonju Mural Village
[Anchor Lead]
On today's close up, we take you to Jeonju in Jeollabuk-do Province. The city is famous for its village of traditional Korean homes known as hanok. But, Jeonju is also home to a village of beautiful murals, unique cuisine and more. Let’s check it out.
[Pkg]
Jaman Mural Village is just across the street from a village of hanok houses. A desolate and impoverished village has been transformed into an open art scene since 2012, when some murals were first painted. The entire village is a museum.
[Soundbite] Kwon Kyung-seop(Head, Jaman Village Community) : Jaman Mural Village is a destitute village in Jeonju. It is also home to historical relics of Changam Lee Sang-man and King Mokjo Lee Ahn-sa from the Joseon Dynasty era.
With paintings drawn on each of the walls, every photo looks like artwork.
[Soundbite] Jeong Min-sun(Visitor) : This is a good place to date and take pictures with my family. There are lots of things to eat. It is very good.
Touring through uphill alleys requires a lot of energy. There is a local delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else.
[Soundbite] One bibimbap waffle, please.
The combination of mixed rice bimbimbap and waffles arouses curiosity. First, add red pepper paste into rice and mix them well. This is bibimbap, the mixed rice. Make balls with this rice and bake them in a waffle iron. Then you have the bibimbap waffle.
[Soundbite] Choi Jeong-yoon(Owner, Bibimbap Waffle Store) : Bimbimbap is a representative dish of Jeonju I was seeking a way to reinvent bibimbap into a new dish and came up with the idea of bibimbap waffle.
This not the end of the bibimbap variations. Make rice paper rolls with vegetables, bulgogi and cabbage. And it is again rolled in a waffle and sliced in half. This is another version of the bibimbap waffle, full of nutrients and health benefits. Now, it's time to take a big bite from the chunky but delicious snack.
[Soundbite] Yoo Ji-yeon(Customer) : Bibimbap looks like waffle. It is u
School near DMZ becomes ′GiGA School′
DMZ 학교에 ′기가 인터넷′ 떴다!
Getting access to the high speed Internet can be rather difficult for people living in remote areas of the country.
That′s especially true for those living near the Demilitarized Zone that separates the two Koreas.
Installing WiFi there presents its own unique set of challenges.
But one of the country′s largest telecommunications operators has pitched in to narrow the digital divide, and students are reaping the benefits.
Paul Yi reports.
Daeseongdong Elementary School in Paju is located just one kilometer from North Korea.
At this school, the only one in the demilitarized zone, a smart technology education class is in full swing.
The teacher, instead of writing on a chalk board, uses an Ultra High Definition TV and a smart pen to interact with students.
The children have their own tablet PCs to look through the digital materials of the lesson.
The young students say they are impressed by the new educational system.
I never had a chance to browse the Internet with a tablet PC before. It is very easy to search for information.
Mobile carrier KT helped the school install the ′Giga Internet′ connection, which is 10 times faster than the existing high-speed Internet.
The move is part of efforts to roll out the Giga Internet service nationwide and improve competitiveness in telecommunications.
The DMZ is an area with a sad history of being divided for 60 years. We hope our ′Giga Internet′ service will help overcome the digital divide of education and culture in the area.
The advanced information technology aims to help students in remote areas connect to the rest of the world with a message of hope and opportunity.
Paul Yi, Arirang News.
