My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

May your stay in Palestine be filled with joyful days, nights and a lifetime of wonderful memories.
ClimateSituated in the Mediterranean, Palestine has a temperate sea climate. April and May bring some of the most beautiful wildflowers in the world. Wild poppies, jonquils, irises, and other vibrant species paint the hillsides with color during the short spring season. The rainy season in Palestine is between November and April. Occasionally it snows in Palestine but it doesn't stay long. To escape the cool weather in the winter season, you can go to Jericho, which is situated near the Dead Sea. Because of the wonderfully low humidity, the air in Palestine is dry. It is always a good idea to carry a bottle of water while hiking or walking during the day. In the summer months the night desert temperatures can get cool, so it is advisable to carry a lightweight jacket or sweater for the evenings.

2 Ways to Dead Sea / Jericho (Palestinian Territory)
Les Israéliens qui viennent de Jérusalem peuvent quand à eux traverser librement le territoire Palestinien par une autoroute réservée passant à proximité de Jéricho pour se rendre sur ses rivages sud / Palestinians from Jericho can not travel freely to the Dead Sea, while its northern part is located in the West Bank: In fact, get out of Jericho (zone A) means crossing a checkpoint to enter zone B (Dead Sea). Meanwhile Israelis who come from Jerusalem can move freely across the Palestinian territory by a reserved highway passing near Jericho to get to its southern shores.
US first lady visits Jericho during Middle East tour
1. First lady for the US, Laura Bush walking with officials through ruins of Hisham Place
2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Laura Bush, US First Lady:
And we are reminded again of what we all want, what everyone of us pray for. I met with a group of Israeli woman earlier, I just had tea with a Palestinian woman - all of them, many of them mothers, say is what we all want is peace. And the chance that we have right now to have peace, to have a Palestinian state living by secure and safe Israel, both living in democracy, is as close as we have been for a really long time.
3. Various of Bush looking at ruins
STORYLINE
America's first lady, Laura Bush visited the ruins of the 8th-century Hisham's Place in Jericho on Sunday as part of a Middle East tour intended to promote women's rights and help defuse growing anti-American sentiment in the region.
Security around the Palestinian controlled area was tight as she visited the ruins and met at with leading Palestinian women.
The women, including Cabinet ministers and legislators, said they told Mrs. Bush a top priority is to pressure Israel to lift travel restrictions that disrupt life in the Palestinian areas.
Israel imposed the restrictions after the outbreak of Israeli-Palestinian fighting in 2000, mainly to keep out Palestinian militants.
However, the network of roadblocks in the West Bank and Gaza also mean that ordinary Palestinians are subjected to long daily waits and at times humiliation.
The women also told Mrs. Bush that the U.S. had to take a more active role in trying to end the Israeli occupation .

JERICHO - NO JEWS ALLOWED WHILE UNDER PALESTINIAN CONTROL
Join The United West Israel tour as we explore the West Bank village of Jericho.
Jericho is under Palestinian Rule and they make it very clear that Jews and Israelis are not welcome. The hypocrisy here is the residents of Jericho own all the food and tourist shops right outside of Jericho on Israeli land. This is modern day Israel.
Area A (full civil and security control by the Palestinian Authority): circa 3% of the West Bank, exclusive East Jerusalem (first phase, 1995).
This area includes eight Palestinian cities and their surrounding areas (Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarem, Qalqilya, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jericho and 80 percent of Hebron), with no Israeli settlements. Entry into this area is forbidden to all Israeli citizens.
The Israel Defense Forces occasionally enters the area to conduct raids to arrest suspected militants.
Commonly known as “the oldest city in the world,” Jericho is an important historical, cultural, and political center located northwest of the Dead Sea.
The city is perhaps best known from the Biblical story of a great victory over its Canaanite citizens by the Israelite leader Joshua. In the story, the walls of the heavily fortified city were destroyed with divine assistance during the year 1400 b.c. The site of ancient Jericho, known today as Tell es-Sultan, has been the focus of several archaeological excavations to investigate the Biblical story. The original settlement was built on a hill, or “tell”. The results of these excavations suggest that the walls of Tell es-Sultan have been built and rebuilt many times, due mainly to collapse caused by earthquakes, which are common in the region.
One of these events may be the basis for the story of Joshua.
