Super League Jersey: St Ouen's Bay
Jersey's west coast is five miles long, and at least three of those miles are covered in golden sand. The beach along St. Ouen's Bay is popular throughout the year and is a prime spot for surfing, with many British and European Championships having taken place over the years.

Motorbike Ride Around St Brelade - St Ouen Jersey
Sand Racing (1958)
St. Ouen's Bay, Jersey.
Panning shot of the start of a motorbike race. The race is taking place on a beach and there is a crowd of spectators who have all come to see the little known but exciting sport of sand racing. The camera follows the bikes as they race into the distance. Various M/Ss of spectators sitting on the sea defence wall. L/S of motorbikes racing past spectators and marker flags. M/S of spectators of all ages on the sea defence wall. L/S of the motorbikes and the sweeping expanse of St. Ouen's Bay. The narrator explains that this bay is one of only a few British beaches suitable for this sport. Various M/Ss of individual racers speeding around a sharp corner of the course. Winning competitors are awarded points for each race. At the end of the season the driver with the most points wins the Sand Race Championship. M/S of a group of spectators looking down from the sea defence wall. Long panning shot of the race with the cliffs in view in the distance. Low angle M/S of spectators looking down from the sea front. The races are not timed as the course changes from beach to beach and with the tide.
M/S of the start of another sand race, this time with cars. Two officials, one with a flag, allow the three cars to go one at a time. The same rules apply to racing cars as motorbikes, except that cars race in a clockwise direction. Various panning shots of the three cars racing. M/S of the spectators. L/S of the race with the cliffs and some of the spectators in view. Panning shot follows car number nine driven by Jack Casey. Casey goes on to win the race and become champion of the year. A lot of the drivers have stripped down and completely rebuilt their vehicles to their own specification. M/S, taken from their point of view, of the spectators looking at the race. L/S of the beach with the cars coming in to the finish under a wide expanse of cloudy blue sky. The narrator's excited tone matches the atmosphere of daredevil danger surrounding the races.
