Tuba Skinny @ Esplanade de la Jetée, The Full 1st Set @ Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 28th, 2019
An amazing set in many ways. Never ever have you seen so many happy smiles on the faces of the members of this team of virtuoso jazz performers - they were in the groove! And so were we!
Touring France July 2019, this is the full first set of their last concert, of their three day stop-over, Sunday the 28th, in the little pleasant sea-side resort of Andernos-les-Bains, right west of Bordeaux, before their last performance in Paris. How lucky we were to be able to find this gem and being able to record this set in one go, leaving it uncut, for the audience as well as for those who couldn't make it. The generosity of the band is outstanding, free concerts and allowing us to record so close. This is just one version of this set, many cameras were active. Happy to share, enjoy! Buying two sets of their CD recordings was just a small token of our appreciation, nothing compared to all the great work Tuba Skinny does shower us with. Quoted from Nick Nielsen: Full Set List: 1. Them Things Got Me. 2. Freight Train Blues. 3. Pyramid Strut. 4. Daddy, Let Me Lay It On You. 5. Salamanca Blues. 6. Too Late. 7. Somebody's Been Lovin' My Baby. 8. Some Kind-A-Shake. 9. You Can Have My Husband. Cohn, leader, cornet; Craig Flory, clarinet; Barnabus Jones, trombone; Erika Lewis, drums, vocals; Max Bien Kahn, guitar, banjo; Jason Lawrence, banjo, guitar; Todd Burdick, sousaphone. Videographed with a hand-held SONY HandyCam, FDR-AX100, in FH quality mode, at times in battle with a cluster of microphones and their stands.
Tuba Skinny 2nd Set @ Place du 14 Juillet, Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 27th, 2019
After a short break, a constellation of stars, Tuba Skinny, assembled for their second set. Eventuelly, Erika Lewis, joined in. The sudden change from very hot dry weather the day before, persisted into Saturday, July 27th, 2019, with rain and gloomy skies, in Andernos-les-Bains, France. It had been announced that rain might stop Tuba Skinny from performing in the open on Place du 14 Juillet, their only venue for the day. To the great relief of everybody, they showed up and gathered under a large parasol, escaping the rain, that now had turned into a light drizzle. The full accoustic set, videographed sitting on a tripod, while crouching under an umbrella squeezed between head and thigh, probably improved the sound quality, here for you to enjoy. Captured with a hand-held, SONY HandyCam, FDR-AX100, in FH quality mode. Tuba Skinny this time with: Shaye Cohn, leader, cornet; Erika Lewis, vocals; Craig Flory, clarinet; Barnabus Jones, trombone; Jason Lawrence, banjo; Max Bien Kahn, guitar; Todd Burdick sousaphone.

Tuba Skinny, The Full 1st set @ Place du 14 Juillet, Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 28th, 2019
A spokesman from The Andernos Jazz Festival 2019 stepped forward to give a short presentation of the band, describing to the audience what it is like in New Orleans, French Quarter, when Tuba Skinny plays in Royal Street, with people passing by, dancing, somtimes sitting in. A little tip is expected to land in the guitar case as a token of gratitude.
Just before noon this sunny hot Sunday, the band members gathered on Place du 14 Juillet, Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 28th, 2019, and an expectant audience congregated, eagerly awaiting. Tuba Skinny here returns to their roots, a busking band without amplifiers or microphones. Standing in a somewhat lateral position, videographing the full set in one-go was a pleasure. The music starts at 3:10.
Touring France July 2019, Tuba Skinny graced this little pleasant sea-side resort of Andernos-les-Bains on the famous Arcachon Bay west of Bordeaux with a three-day stop-over, before heading to Paris and their last performance. Happy to post this footage of the complete 1st set, unedited. Enjoy! Buying two sets of their CD recordings was just a small token of our appreciation, nothing compared to all the great work Tuba Skinny does shower us with. Shaye Cohn, leader, cornet; Craig Flory, clarinet; Barnabus Jones, trombone; Erika Lewis, drums, vocals; Max Bien Kahn, guitar; Jason Lawrence, banjo; Todd Burdick, sousaphone. Videographed with a hand-held SONY HandyCam, HDR-XR520, in FH quality mode.

Tuba Skinny, version 2, Last Set @ Esplanade de la Jetée @ Andernos, France, July 28th, 2019
A second version of an amazing set. Now portraying the muscians from a lateral position. Never ever have you seen so many smiles on the faces of the members of this team of outstanding jazz performers - they were in the groove! And so were we! Touring France July 2019, this is the last set Tuba Skinny graced us with on their three day stop-over, Sunday the 28th, in the wonderful little sea-side resort of Andernos-les-Bains, right west of Bordeaux, before their last performance in Paris. How lucky we were to be able to find this gem and being able to record this set in one go, leaving it uncut, for the audience as well as for those who couldn't make it. The generosity of the band is outstanding, free concerts and allowing us to record so close. Happy to share the second version of this set, believe many cameras were running this night. Enjoy! Buying two sets of their CD recordings, was just a small token of our appreciation, compared to all the great work Tuba Skinny does shower us with. Quoted from Pops Coffee: Michigander Blues: composed and recorded by Jabbo Smith, 1929. Stavin’ Chain: a Lil Johnson 12-bar song from 1937. Black Rag: allegedly composed by William Ridgley in 1925. But almost identical to 'Down Home Rag', composed by Wilbur Sweatman and L. Brown in 1911. Recorded by Celestin's Tuxedo Orchestra. I Need You By My Side: Recorded by Merline Johnson in 1937. Interestingly, played by Tuba Skinny in the key of G - a key avoided by most bands. A Jazz Battle: Composed and recorded by Jabbo Smith, 1929. It’s on Tuba Skinny’s 2018 album ‘Nigel's Dream’. A tune in F minor. Rock Me: composed by Thomas A. Dorsey in 1936. It is on Tuba Skinny’s early album ‘Tuba Skinny’. Garbage Man Blues: Also known as ‘Call of the Freaks’. This is on Tuba Skinny’s album ‘Garbage Man’. For background info on this tune: .

Just before noon this sunny hot day, the band members gathered on Place du 14 Juillet, Andernos-les-Bains, France, July 28th, 2019, and an expectant audience, young and old, congregated, eagerly awaiting. Tuba Skinny here returns to their roots, a busking band without amplifiers or microphones.
