Japan Trip: Shiroyama Park nice view plants grow wildly Kagoshima, Japan
Shiroyama Park (Shiroyama Kōen) is a park in downtown Kagoshima that stretches over Mount Shiroyama. With an elevation of 107 meters, the mountain used to the site of a castle fortification, which led to its name. Shiroyama literally means castle mountain in Japanese. The castle's former grounds at the base of the mountain now are the site of the Reimeikan Museum nowadays.
The park is most famous for its Shiroyama Observatory with magnificent views over downtown Kagoshima, Kagoshima Bay and Sakurajima. The night view is also great, especially if a fair sky and bright moon allow Sakurajima. Beautiful views can also be enjoyed from the Satsuma no Yu outdoor hot spring bath in hotel Shiroyama ,which is also open to non-staying guests.
Moreover, the park will hold the interest of travelers interested in Japanese history since it was the site of the final battle of the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877. The local hero Saigo Takamori is said to have made his last stand at Saigo Cave, situated within the park.
Access information
The City View Bus Shiroyama-Iso line runs between Kagoshima Chuo Station and the Shiroyama Observatory.
(20 minutes, departures every 30 minutes, 190 yen or 600 yen for a day pass)

Secret Shrine WAKAMIKO at Kirishima City, Kagoshima, Japan
(Wakamiko Shrine)
I happened to find this hidden place at Kirishima City.
This shrine is just along the seashore.
The atmosphere is full of something spiritual.
Deity has a cocoon-like shape.
I heard only local fishermen come and worship.
(Name of Wakamiko)
The northern part of Kagoshima Bay is the big crater (diameter 20km) and called AIRA Caldera.
The central part of the caldera (north of Mt.Sakurajima) is called Wakamiko.
Wakamiko keeps volcanic activity under sea water.
You can see many hot bubbles are popping up on the water surface.
Local fishermen call the phenomenon Tagiri (which means boiling in local Kagoshima dialect.)
I think that those fishermen built this shrine in hope of calmness of Wakamiko.

Do you want to see SAKURAJIMA from the best position?
If that is the case, I recommend you to go to Yoshino Park at the north of Kagoshima City.
The city is located on the high place and you can get the perfect view of the volcano and Kagoshima City.

In addition to beautiful view of the Kagoshima, you can appreciate many kinds of plants in the park.
In March and April, you can see many beautiful Sakura (cherry blossoms)
Many local families go on a picnic for Hanami (appreciation of cherry blossom) in March and April.
Even if you come to the park in different seasons, you can enjoy different flowers and trees.
UME plum trees are particularly beautiful in February.
There is a typical Japanese garden in the park.
The atmosphere is calm and comfortable in the garden.

【かごしま探訪】鹿児島市の指定文化財『慈眼寺公園』に行ってきました♪
鹿児島市の文化財に指定されている『慈眼寺跡』の慈眼寺公園に行ってきました。
そうめん流しの名所としても知られており、年間を通して多くの人が遊びに来ています。
空気も澄んでいて、散策するだけでも気持ちが洗われる感じがしました。
歴史も古く、慈眼寺は飛鳥時代（約1400年前）百済の名僧日羅によって開基されたと伝えられており、
坊津の一乗院、志布志の宝満寺とともに薩摩の三ヶ寺と言われて有名でしたが、明治2年の廃仏毀釈により取り壊されました。
非常に残念ですが、今でもその一部が残っているので動画に収めています。
ちなみに、今回春先に撮り溜めていた動画をようやく編集したのでアップします。
長い為、Part1と2の2部構成です。

A Walk in the Park - Downtown Kagoshima City - 2009-06-28
This is video I took in June. It was kind of fitting that it was raining today when I posted it. My Uncle Robert was in town that weekend and you can see him in a couple of shots in this video. It's kind of depressing seeing this video though because the whole area I was in has recently been torn up and is under construction. I hope they make it better, or at least put it back the way it was, when they're finished working on it.
Feb. 3, 2016, Setsubun, Terukuni Shrine
Setsubun is the annual holiday when children throw beans at adult men dressed like demons, shouting Oni Out, Good Luck In! It's also when some shrines throw lucky candies and bags of beans to the visitors.
クリスマスイルミネーション2009 / 鹿児島市 みなと大通公園・天文館
鹿児島市で撮影したイルミネーションです。
まず、鹿児島市役所前にある「みなと大通り公園」です。通りの63本の樹木におよそ10万球の電球が飾り付けられています。公園内にある噴水や彫刻もライトアップされており、多くの人で賑わっていました。来年1月31日まで点灯されています。
次に天文館周辺のイルミネーションです。デパートの壁面やアーケードは、クリスマスツリーなどで飾られています。通りごとにイメージが変えられており、様々なイルミネーションを楽しむことができます。

Sakurajima is very close to Kagoshima City.
It is surprising that people live very close to the active volcano.
This scenery resembles Napoli City (Italy) and Mt. Il monte Vesuvio.
For this similarity, Kagoshima City and Napoli City are sister cities.
