Going for a walk with a friend, Tashi Wangchuk at Jigme Dorji National Park in Dodena Thimphu Bhutan. Its around 18 kilometers from the city.
The Jigme Dorji National Park, named after the late Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, is the second-largest National Park of Bhutan. It occupies almost the entire Gasa District, as well as the northern areas of Thimphu District, Paro District, Punakha, and Wangdue Phodrang Districts. It was established in 1974 and stretches over an area of 4316 km², thereby spanning all three climate zones of Bhutan, ranging in elevation from 1400 to over 7000 meters. About 6,500 people in 1,000 households live within the park, from subsistence agriculture and animal husbandry. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan's Tentative List for UNESCO inclusion

Going to Dodena(thimphu,Bhutan) on a scooter.Dodena is a Settlement and entry/exit point of Jigme Dorji National Park. The Dodena trek is one of the most popular treks in the kingdom. Starting from the Paro valley and ending in Thimphu, this trek offers some of the most breathtaking views of Mount Jhomolhari (7,314 m), one of the holiest mountains in Bhutan. Stretching over a period of 9 days, the route passes through two high altitude passes, the Yale La (4,950 m) and the Nyele La (4,890 m), making this trek a demanding one. The best season to go on this trek is from April to June and September to November.

First TWO Snow leopards collared in Bhutan
For the first time ever, TWO female snow leopards were radio collared in Bhutan’s Jigme Dorji National Park in September 2016.
The two female snow leopards, an adult and a sub-adult, weighing 57kg and 37kg were captured in Shasila (above 4,ooo masl), and fitted with radio collars and released back into the wild.
As the country’s first snow leopard radio collaring expedition, a 12-member team led by the Jigme Dorji National Park began field work in May 2016. After months of tracking a snow leopard in the mountains, the team successfully collared two snow leopards at two different sites.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Bhutan and Finland provided financial support to carry out the collaring in order to gain a better understanding of the endangered big cats. The radio collars would enable tracking of the snow leopards' movements through global positioning system (GPS) technology.
Information and data collected from the collared snow leopards would further enable conservationists to study their behaviour and ecology, their movement and breeding patterns. This expedition has also demonstrated successful collaboration with the local communities who played a vital role in identifying the hotspot for collaring purposes.
“The snow leopard collaring is timely and useful for further analysis of the behaviour of the animal and its response to the changing environment such as climate change and its impact, said Conservation Director of WWF Bhutan, Vijay Moktan. He said that this successful collaring will enable better informed and effective conservation interventions to save this endangered species.

A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of wild nature for posterity and as a symbol of national pride.
An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on
Protected Areas, has defined National Park as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people, Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a national park in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. Some would say that the first official
national park to be designated as such at its creation was Mackinac Island, legislated in 1875. Australia's Royal
National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.
The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. According to the IUCN, 6,555 national parks worldwide met its criteria in 2006. IUCN is still discussing the parameters of defining a national park.
National parks are almost always open to visitors. Most national parks provide outdoor recreation and camping opportunities as well as classes designed to educate the public on the importance of conservation and the natural wonders of the land in which the national park is located.

On 17th April, 2012, WWF-Bhutan, in collaboration with Information & Communication Services and Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP), Ministry of Agriculture & Forests organized the tiger walk-shop. It was aimed at bringing leaders, prominent local officials, and NGOs, media and Tiger supporters together, closer to Tiger habitat.
It marked WWF's support to all the implementers who work tirelessly for conservation despite harsh conditions and difficult terrain. The walk reiterated Bhutan's commitment made during the 'Tiger Summit' and to encourage other range countries to follow suit before the 2nd ministerial level conference on 'Conservation on Tiger'

HAA VALLEY:Indian Army’s new strategic location against China after Doklam Standoff.(Paro to Haa valley via Chele la Pass)
Haa District is one of the 20 dzongkhag or districts comprising Bhutan. Per the 2005 census, the population of Haa dzongkhag was 11,648, making it the second least populated dzongkhag in Bhutan after Gasa.
Haa District lies along the western border of Bhutan. To the northwest it is bounded by the Tibet. To the southwest it is bounded by Samtse District, to the southeast by Chukha District, and to the northeast by Paro District.
Haa contains Torsa Strict Nature Reserve, one of the environmentally protected areas of Bhutan. Torsa contains no human inhabitants other than military patrols and posts, occupying substantial portions of the gewogs of Bji and Sangbay. Torsa is connected to Jigme Dorji National Park via biological corridor, cutting across the northeastern half of Haa District.
The Indian Army maintains a military base in the valley to maintain security against incursions from China. The Chinese military has built roads into the Torsa Strict Nature Reserve and Haa District over the past dozen years clearly visible on Google Earth/Maps and other viewing platforms.
In the event of war, India’s Brigade-sized military presence inside Bhutan, stationed at Haa, allows it to attack the Chumbi valley from two sides, potentially cutting off Chinese troops stationed facing Sikkim.
Hence,the significance of Haa Valley is manifolds but at the same time you can’t take your eyes off from the beauty of this valley.

Bhutan Takin (Budorcas taxicolor whitei): national animal of Bhutan
The Bhutan Takin (Budorcas taxicolor whitei) is a vulnerable subspecies of Takin native to Bhutan, North Eastern India, Western part of China, and Tibet. The main threats to the Bhutan Takin are hunting and habitat loss.
In Bhutan, Takin are found in bamboo forests at altitudes of 1,000 to 4,500 metres (3,300 to 15,000 ft), where they eat grass, buds and leaves. Takin are diurnal, active in the day, resting in the heat on particularly sunny days. Takin gather in small herds in winter and herds of up to a hundred individuals in the summer; in winter, they move to lower elevations and split into smaller herds of 10-50 individuals, mostly in the Gasa District. As is often seen in bison, old males are often solitary.
A study of the Bhutan Takin's seasonal movement and habitat use has been conducted by Jigme Dorji National Park staff which is thought to be the stronghold of the species in Bhutan. An earlier study of its diet on its summer range showed that the takin is a generalist browser foraging on numerous shrubs.
In China, the species is known to inhabit from south of the Yarlung Tsangpo River on the southern-facing side of the eastern Himalayas, to the westerly bend of the river. In India it occurs in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Several Takin are kept captive in the Motithang Takin Preserve in Thimphu, where they can be hand-fed by tourists and are obese as a result. His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, ordered the captive Takin released in the 1980s but after they wandered the streets of Thimphu for several weeks, they were recaptured and placed back into captivity.

Bhutan | Dochula Pass | Dechencholing Palace l Thimpu
Dechencholing Palace (Dzongkha: བདེ་ཆེན་ཆོས་གླིང་, dechencholing) is located in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the north of the Tashichho Dzong and 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) north of the city centre. It was built in 1953 by the third king of Bhutan Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
The Dochula Pass is a mountain pass in the snow covered Himalayas within Bhutan on the road from Thimpu to Punakha where 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as Druk Wangyal Chortens have been built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. Apart from the chortens there is a monastery called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honour of the fourth Druk Gyalpo (head of the state of Bhutan), Jigme Singye Wangchuck; the open grounds in its front yard is a venue for the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival. The pass with 108 memorial chortens is adjacent to the country's first Royal Botanical Park.
