金沢八景 - Kanazawa Hakkei - The Eight Views of Kanazawa.
The Yokohama district of Kanazawa was once the deep water port of the Kamakura Shoguns, and was beloved of medieval pilgrims, poets and painters.
From: KAMAKURA - RISE AND FALL OF THE SHOGUNS Episode 3: ZIPANGU - THE GOLDEN AGE OF KAMAKURA.
This account of the eight views is contained in the book KAMAKURA - FACT AND LEGEND by Iso Mutsu, which, in 2018 will be celebrating the centenary of its first publication.
I filmed scenes and took pictures of all the eight views of Kanazawa myself, in preparing this clip. I also used the famous woodblock print series Eight Views of Kanazawa, created by the reknowned artist Hiroshige, 200 years ago.
Six of the views are within a fifteen minute walk of Kanazawa Hakkei Station, on the Keikyu Main Line, and are dotted around the shores of nearby Hiragata (Hirakata) Bay. The other two, Shomyo Ji and Koizumi are fifteen minutes walk, east and west, respectively, of the next inbound Keikyu main line station, at Kanazawa Bunko. It would take around an hour to walk around all the views, although quite a bit more, if you want to see them at the times of day or year or at a meteorological moment that correspond with Hiroshige's famous pictures of these eight views ;)
The Sliding Screen contained in the thumbnail can be seen in the reception area of Kanazawa Ward Office, Yokohama, between Kanazawa Bunko and Kanazawa Hakkei stations.
