Xi Jinping Makes Inspection Tour of Jiangxi Province
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited impoverished villagers and migrant workers during a tour of east China's Jiangxi Province, that lasted from Monday to Wednesday.
During his visit, Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended Spring Festival greetings to all Chinese people as the Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, approaches.
Xi visited villages, enterprises, schools, urban neighborhoods and revolutionary memorials, chatting with impoverished villagers and inquiring about their livelihood during the tour.
Xi visited the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Tuesday morning, paying respects to the late founding fathers and martyrs of New China.
Xi talked with six offspring of martyrs and moral models as he visited an old study, inquiring them about their life.
Xi also asked the six men to convey his greetings to other Samaritans, and said they inspired other Chinese and had made a great contribution to the cause of China's socialism and rejuvenation.
Later, Xi visited an impoverished village, Shenshan Village in Jinggangshang City. Xi sent his greetings to villagers, inquired about their income and livelihood. He also joined local villagers in making a traditional Chinese food, rice cakes or Nian Gao in Chinese.
He chatted with villagers there and encouraged all villagers to work on well-off society.
In the course of building a well-off society, all old revolutionary bases should move on together. No one base should be left behind. All bases should enter the well-off society together. Poverty alleviation endeavors must be carried out in a precise manner, helping people pursue common prosperity. So the officials of the Shenshan Village and all areas of the Jinggangshan should continue to work hard on poverty alleviation. We should make sure those who live a good life will enjoy a better life and those who are badly off will get over the difficulties and have a prosperous life. In this aspect, both the party and the government will lending a helping hand, said Xi.
On Wednesday morning, Xi visited enterprises, schools, urban neighborhoods in Nanchang, capital city of Jiangxi. He inspected a medicine production base and a LED research center in Nanchang University.

On October 30, the government of Guantao county, administered by the prefecture-level city of Handan in the northern province of Hebei, dispatched about 300 police officers to demolish a government-approved Catholic church, claiming that it illegally occupies arable land. The priest and several hundred believers knelt in prayer outside the church, trying to stop the demolition. They guarded the church throughout the night, but to no avail.
