Living Root Bridge- Jingmaham (Riwai village) close view
Nohwet living root bridge is very close to mawlynngong (Asia's cleanest village). It's about a 5-8 mins not-so-steep climb downhill to reach the bridge.
Well, this looks like a natural wonder born out of human intelligence. The root bridge is spectacular, and so are the surroundings next to it. This is in Riwai village.
The pathway to the bridge is marked with food and drinks stall and it attracts a lot of tourists given the accessibility. They charge Rs. 10 to enter the bridge area and do not allow you to stand on the bridge. You can walk across to the other side though. There is a stream flowing below and you can stay there for as long as you wish.

Living Root Bridge: Meghalaya by Tourist Destination
Living Root Bridge: Meghalaya by Tourist Destination
Deep in the dense tropical forest of Meghalaya, and shrouded in cloud and rain for much of the year, are some astonishing man-made natural wonders, known as living root bridge. These wonderful structures have meticulously grown over a period of time and are among the biggest attractions in Meghalaya.
The ever evolving Meghalaya bridges are made up of tangled thick roots that provide formidability to the structure and make it good enough to hold 50 or more people in one go. They are grown by trained Khasi and Jaintia tribes who have mastered the art of growing root bridges across raised banks of streams running through the dense woods of Meghalaya.
There is a very high watchtower in Riwai beside the village Mawlynnong made up of bamboo shoot and wood, giving a bird’s eye view of the region. From this 80-85 feet high “sky view” you can have a good view of the Bangladesh terrain as well as the village. Bamboo is an important part of local economy in most part of the North East. You will be amazed how keen these people are with maintaining the integrity of nature that no man made material is used in the construction of this watch tower, including nylon ropes.
