Ishikawa Myōjō-ji Temple - 妙成寺 - 4K Ultra HD : Founded in 1294 by the Japanese saint Nichizo, a disciple of the Nichiren Sect, the Myōjō-ji Temple (Also known as Myojoji) is located in Noto Peninsula near Wajima and is now the head temple of the Nichiren Sect.
Myōjō-ji Temple consists of a set of large buildings, set on atop a hill, which were created over the centuries. One of them is the priest’s living quarters, built in 1593, and some of the more striking ones include the Goju-no-To (35m tall 5 storied pagoda) built in 1618 and the Joroku-do Hall, located at the very far end of the temple. Here you can admire a 5m tall wooden statue of Shakamuni Buddha erected in 1686.

Zojo-Ji Temple Part I - Tokyo - 三縁山増上寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Zojo-Ji Temple Part I - 三縁山増上寺 - 4K Ultra HD : What stands out the most here at Zojo-Ji temple is the striking contrast between the old and new Japan. While its immediate neighborhood is dominated by modem buildings and Tokyo Tower, Zojo-ji feels like it has been stuck in a bubble where time moves at a slower pace to its surroundings.
Located a few steps away from Tokyo Tower, Zojo-ji temple is a buddhist temple and the main temple for the Chinzei branch of Jōdo-shū Buddhism. Built in 1393, it was only in 1598 that the Zoji-temple moved to its current location. To this date, only the Sangedatsumon Gate (main entrance) has succeeded in withstanding fires, earthquakes and wars, while the main building, also known as Daiden, has had to be rebuilt many times over.
While the main attraction here is the temple itself and the possibility for many to take a gorgeous picture of both Daiden (the main temple) with Tokyo Tower in its background, others come to Zojo-ji Temple to visit the Tokugawa mausoleum (only open during some special occasions and some public holidays) and its Jizō statues at the cemetery of Unborn Children that we will cover in depth in the second part of this video.

Nagano Zuishinmon Gate - 随神門 - 4K Ultra HD
Nagano Zuishinmon Gate - 随神門 - 4K Ultra HD : Our last video on the Togakushi shrine will be dedicated to not a shrine itself but to one of its gates, the famous Zuishinmon Gate (随神門). Zuishinmon Gate is in fact part of the Togakushi-Okusha (奥社) located far off in the Togakushi village forest, and rather difficult to access, especially in winter. In fact, the Togakushi-Okusha (奥社) is actually the least attractive shrine of the three, due to its concrete modern construction and its many surrounding restaurants.
However the path to access this temple is one of the most gorgeous you can enjoy in Japan in winter with a several-kilometer long pathway surrounded by over 300 majestic old Cryptomeria trees. Halfway along you will find the splendid red Zuishinmon Gate (随神門) which has, once covered by snow, a true beauty of its own.

Ishikawa Mitsukejima - 見附島 - 4K Ultra HD
Ishikawa Mitsukejima - 見附島 - 4K Ultra HD : Located on the opposite side of Wajima on the Noto peninsula, Mitsukejima is an small, uninhabited island (150m long, 50m wide and 30m tall) famous for its unique shape. Also known as Gunkanjima “Battleship Island” because of its shape, this island has no link whatsoever with the other famous island named Gunkanjima, located in Nagasaki.
According to local folklore, Mitsukejima was named by a local monk and artist, Kūkai (774–835), who was apparently the first person to discover this island when travelling from Sado Island.

Hiroshima Shukkei-en Garden - 縮景園 - 4K Ultra HD
Hiroshima Shukkei-en Garden - 縮景園 : Built in 1620 at the order of Asano Nagaakira, a powerful feudal lord (Daimyo) of the Hiroshima clan, the Shukkein-en garden later served as the villa of the Asano family during the Meiji period. Shukkeien, which can be translated into English as shrunken-scenery garden, includes valleys, mountains and forests represented in miniature all across the garden.
It was donated by the Asano family itself to Hiroshima Prefecture in 1940. Unfortunately, lying pretty close to ground zero during the nuclear attack on the city, the garden suffered extensive damage and later became a refuge for the victims of the war. It was only after a long renovation process that the garden reopened to the public in 1951.
Note that only the garden stone bridge featured on this video was still standing after the nuclear blast.

Ishikawa Kanazawa Higashi Chaya - 東茶屋街 - 4K Ultra HD
Ishikawa Kanazawa Higashi Chaya - 東茶屋街 : Located in Ishikawa Prefecture and a good 2 hours away from Tokyo by Shinkansen, Kanazawa is one of those cities where time has somehow stopped, giving us the chance to enjoy Japan like never before! This is especially true in Kanazawa Higashi Chaya District, which is the geisha district of Kanazawa and as such is one of its most well-preserved areas.
Much more modest than Kyoto’s geisha district, Higashi Chaya does however offer the chance for its visitors to not only enjoy some of Kanazawa’s most delicious treats and tea, but also the opportunity to visit some of the many guest house used in the past by geisha as living quarters (Ochaya Shima Guest House).
If beer and sake are more your thing, rest assured that Higashi Chaya has everything you need, and if you are curious enough you will exactly find what you are looking for in this district with a big selection of traditional bars and restaurants.

Ishikawa Kanazawa Castle - 金沢城 - 4K Ultra HD
Ishikawa Kanazawa Castle - 金沢城 : One of Ishikawa prefecture’s most well known splendors, Kanazawa Castle, has been the pinnacle of power and architecture in the region since 1583. Official headquarters and strong hall of the powerful Maeda Clan, the castle has, however, suffered many disasters and been rebuilt several times including the most recent addition in 2015 of the Gyokuseninmaru Garden (not on this video) and Hashizume-mon Gate (on this video).
Beautiful all year long, it is however during the hanami season (cherry blossoms) and in winter, under a thick blanket of snow, that Kanazawa Castle is by far at is best!
