Ujigami Shrine, Along the Rekishi Kaido in Uji City, Kyoto!
Situated in Uji City, Kyoto, the Ujigami shrine is dedicated to Emperor Oujin and Emperor Nintoku. The shrine's Honden (main hall) is Japan's oldest architecture of late Heian period that exists today. It is listed as World Heritage as one of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. Although its origin is unknown, according to a dendrochronology research, the shrine's construction was dated at somewhere around 1060. The nearby Byodo-in temple, also registered as World Heritage, was built in 1052 and the two buildings are presumed to have been built together.
Later in the Muromachi period, seven natural springs in the Uji area, known as Uji Shichi Meisui, were designated as water source to be used in tea ceremonies. One of the seven springs, Kirihara mizu, flows from the Ujigami Shrine. The other six springs have all dried up over the years, and today, Kirihara mizu is the last spring left today where good Uji water is discharged.

Sensoji Temple & Nakamise in Asakusa, Tokyo - 金龍山浅草寺 東京
A look at Tokyo's oldest temple, Sensoji, originally built in 645 AD. A must-see for every tourist in Asakusa, Tokyo, as well as the packed Nakamise-dōri, a row of shops going back centuries, plus the giant pagoda.
You will always find big crowds of tourists going to Senosji - it's at the top of every Tokyo sightseeing itinerary.
Plus, don't miss Sensoji's Best Secret! The Denboin Garden is one of Japan's best and only open about 6 weeks a year. See it here:

Takasanji Oni Matsuri
Just threw this together, not a very good depiction of this great festival. Takasanji Temple is ritualistically cleansed of three demons, portrayed by 3 males of the ages of 12, 25, and 42 from the local population. The demons are chased through the temple by 30 torch wielding men. The sheer amount of fire within a priceless old wooden temple is stunning, and how they have not managed to burn that building down is beyond me.
If you are planning to come out and enjoy this festival, I recommend you bring a camera that can handle the contrasts of the dark and fire, as well as the speed of the action. On that note, watch out for anyone bearing a step ladder. In true Japanese style, they will completely ignore everyone behind them and try to get the best possible shots of the festival while completely blocking your view.
While totally worth it, this is usually a very cold experience, so dress warmly! Make sure you get on one of the buses that will take you directly back to the station after the festival. While you do not need to run, it is best to follow the crowd down and get on one before they stop running for the night!

Shirahige Jinja The White Beard shrine by Lake Biwa!
Shirahige Jinja (白鬚神社) is a Shinto shrine in Takashima in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The shrine is dedicated to Sarutahiko Ōkami (猿田毘古大神). It is the head shrine of the Shirahige Shrines around the country.
It seems this shrine has a long history, it was founded in 1603 and Toyotomi Hideyoshi had something to do with it. Its most famous landmark is the Torri which stands about 30 meters offshore in Lake Biwa.
Shiga was known as Ōmi Province or Gōshū before the prefectural system was established. Omi was a neighbor of Nara and Kyoto, at the junction of western and eastern Japan. During the period 667 to 672, Emperor Tenji founded a palace in Otsu. In 742, Emperor Shōmu founded a palace in Shigaraki. In the early Heian Period, Saichō was born in the north of Otsu and founded Enryaku-ji.

Time lapse in Higashi Maizuru
Two separate days were used, May 13th and 16th.
I think May 16th turned out to be the better one. I was going to have it take pictures for an hour, but my phone buzzed and fell (but I did have do not disturb on). Whatever.
