A flight around the Jinjuseong Fortress and surrounding area. We came down to enjoy the Latern Festival, so I decided to get the drone up while the weather was cooperating. See the links below for more information.

Jinju is located in the South of Korea in Gyeongnam. And along with its river, Jinju is one of the most beautiful and iconic cities in Korea. It has a breathtaking scenic view with many tourist attractions such as Jinjuseong Fortress, Chokseongnu Pavilion, The Jinju National Museum and of course, the Jinyang lake among many others. Today, Hyesoo traveled to the city of Jinju to meet with the Mayor of Jinju and see what the city has to offer…
In 1593 when Japan invaded for the second time we call that ‘Bloody battle in Jinju’ that 70 thousand civilian soldiers were killed, there was a patriotic civil general named Gyeong heo Choi. Nongae was his concubine. After Jinju was surrendered by Japan, Nongae drown herself with Japanese general at Wae Rock below here. The general was dead and that's why she became famous and in some kind of meaning she could be named as the most honorable woman and first woman to offer one’s life in our 5000 years of history. This is the site of that story and that's how this site is meaningful.

Watch us dance beneath the glow of over 30,000 hanging lanterns, jam to the Korean clowns, stumble upon a Korean singer with her boy toy backup team as well as a band of what can only be described as wizard people offering free alcohol and snacks and serenading, and, of course, enjoy the waygook-lauded practice of marting in front of a convenience store.

Lantern Festival - South Korea (Jinju 2018)
One of South Korea's largest festivals, the Jinju Namgang Yudeung (Lantern) Festival is an enchanting two week event that takes place each year in October. Held within the walls of the Jinjuseong Fortress and floating atop the Jinju Namgang River, it honors those who battled through the sieges of Korea during the late 1500's.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people attend the event to enjoy a spectacular display of lanterns, fireworks, performances, enjoy foods from around the world and pay respects to ancestors. There are many other ways that visitors can directly take part in this magical event which are mentioned in the video. I also provide tips and advice on how you can get the most out of your visit!

A day in Autumn~Jinju Gyeongnam Arboretum(경상남도 수목원)South Korea
Beyond what I expected!
I really enjoyed the Museum, the garden, the forest, many roads like maze, the fresh air and wind, the colorful trees and the peaceful views. These elements composing 경상남도 수목원 (Arboretum) were very natural rather than others (artificial and modern arboretums.

Korea has a variety of castles (fortresses), including Sanseong (Mountain fortress), Jinseong (Camp fortress), and Eupseong (City fortress).
Goguryeo, the largest kingdom among the Three Kingdoms of Korea, is renowned for its mountain fortresses built horizontally and vertically along the incline of slopes. One of the well-preserved Goguryeo fortresses is Baekam fortress (白巖城) constructed before 6th century in present-day South-West Manchuria. A Chinese historian noted, The Goguryeo people like to build their palaces well. Patterned tiles and ornate bracket systems were already in use in many palaces, and fortresses in what is now Manchuria.
A number of fortresses still exist, and a few are undergoing restoration work. Most of these castles were built during the Three Kingdoms period through the Unitary Dynastic period of Korea. Some are in Korea, while others are in China. The majority of the pictures used in this video are of castles constructed during the reign of the Joseon dynasty. Korean fortresses have inspired and impacted the designs of some Japanese castles.

This is part two of a three part vlog series documenting my time in South Korea. I was part of a group of students from the University of Guam who were selected to go to Namhae, South Korea to help teach English at a winter camp in Gyeongnam Provincial Namhae College! It was such an amazing and humbling experience. I am so thankful for both schools for giving us the opportunity.

A New Yorker in Love with Ssireum, Curtis Johnson
The World Ssireum Championship kicked off in Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. The sandy ring was filled with athletes from both Korea and abroad, and one athlete stood out from the crowd ? Curtis Johnson from the U.S., standing 233 centimeters tall. After working as a basketball player and model, he fell in love with ssireum four years ago and began to compete in Korea.
This year, he’s back to fight for the strongman title, and uses the competition as an opportunity to travel through Korea. He meets with students who are training to become ssireum athletes, and catches up with his old coach. He also visits the Jinju traditional market and the bullfight stadium. Curtis Johnson, a New Yorker who loves ssireum! Will he be able to take the strongman title this year? Follow him on his travels to find out!

경상북도 김천의 한 실내체육관, ‘세계 씨름 대회’가 열렸다.
모래판에서 열띤 경기를 펼치는 외국 선수들.
그 사이에서도 2m 33cm에 달하는 키와 192kg의 몸무게로 유독 눈에 띄는 이가 있었으니, 그가 바로 커티슨 존슨이다.
뉴욕에서 농구선수와 모델로 맹활약하던 그는 4년 전, 우연히 접한 씨름과 사랑에 빠져 매년 한국에 와 대회에 참가하고 있다.
올해도 어김없이 고된 훈련을 거쳐 한국으로 돌아온 그는 경기를 앞두고 한국씨름 여행을 결심한다.
천하장사를 꿈꾸는 대학생들과 만나 연습경기를 가지고 씨름을 가르쳐준 은사님을 만나 조언을 구하기도 한다.
코치와 함께 진주 전통시장과 소싸움축제도 관람하며 씨름을 통해 만난 소중한 인연과 즐거운 시간을 갖는다.
