The tiger leaping gorge (Yunnan - China)
(EN) Tiger Leaping Gorge is a canyon on the Yangtze River -- locally called the Golden Sands River (金沙江; Jīnshā Jiāng) -- located 60 km north of Lijiang City, Yunnan in southwestern China. It is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site.
Around 15 km in length, the gorge is located where the river passes between 5,596 metre Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (玉龙雪山; Yùlóng Xuĕshān) and 5,396 m Haba Snow Mountain (哈巴雪山; Hābā Xuĕshān) in a series of rapids under steep 2000 metre cliffs. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point (still 25 metres wide), hence the name.
Administratively, the river in this area forms the border between Yulong Naxi Autonomous County of Lijiang City (right bank) and Shangri-La County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (left bank).
Tiger Leaping Gorge is a contender for the world's deepest river canyon, depending on the exact definition used.[citation needed] The inhabitants of the gorge are primarily the indigenous Naxi people, who live in a handful of small hamlets. Their primary subsistence comes from grain production and foreign hikers. The gorge is not considered navigable. In the early 1980s, four rafters attempted to go down the gorge and were never seen again. In 1986, the first known successful attempt to sail through the gorge was made by the first expedition to float down the entire length of the Yangtze, starting at the river's high source at the Gelandandong glacier lake.
The area was officially opened to foreign tourists in 1993, but had attracted adventurous backpackers already in the 1980s. Officials plan to improve the existing trails and roads, bringing tour buses and more development. These plans arouse highly varied reactions among the local population, from strong opposition to strong support.[1]
Natural crystals are mined from areas in and surrounding the Tiger Leaping Gorge.

New Bridge to Benefit People Along China's Jinsha River
A new bridge - the Jindong Bridge, towering over southwest China's Jinsha River, separating Yunnan Province and Sichuan Province will soon be open, as the two halves were connected on Sunday.
After the completion of the Jindong Bridge, people living across the river will no longer rely on ferries. The bridge will have a profound meaning for economic and cultural exchanges between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, and for the alleviation of poverty among the locals, said Hu Fei, manager of Jindong Bridge Program, under the China Railway 18 Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
One side of the bridge is located in Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province; the other side is in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region in central China's Sichuan Province. The 914.1-meter-long bridge stretches above the Jinsha River at a height of 148 meters.

Jinsha River Bridge destroyed by flood peak from dam
Due to the Baige dam's flood discharge, the Jinsha River Bridge was destroyed. The 318 national highway was also disrupted. Since the bridge needs time to be repaired, it is recommended that tourists who travel to Tibet by themselves not take the 318 Sichuan-Tibet line.

Nujiang 怒 江 and the Three Parallel Rivers 三 江 併 流
Nujiang 怒 江, or Nu River which means Raging River, starts from the Tanggula Mountains 唐 古 拉 山 in the Tibetan Plateau that becomes the Salween River 薩 爾 溫 江 in Burma 緬 甸 or Myanmar.
Nujiang is one of the UNESCO-listed Three Parallel Rivers in the Yunnan Protected Area. The other two rivers are Lancang River 瀾 滄 江, which becomes Mekong River 湄 公 河 in Vietnam, and Jinsha River 金 沙 江 that flows into Yangtze River 揚 子 江 in China. Despite their closeness at upper reach, the rivers are separated by the Hengduan Mountain Ranges 横 斷 山 脉.

Leaping Tiger Gorge Yunnan. 25 Oct 2019 - VIDEO
Tiger Leaping Gorge (Chinese: 虎跳峡; pinyin: Hǔ tiào xiá) is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha River, a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze River. It is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Lijiang City, Yunnan in southwestern China. It is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site.
Legend says the name comes from a hunted tiger escaping by jumping across the river at the narrowest point (still 25 metres (82 ft) wide), using the rock in the middle.[1][2][better source needed]
At a maximum depth of approximately 3,790 meters (12,434 feet) from river to mountain peak, Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest and most spectacular river canyons in the world.[3] The inhabitants of the gorge are primarily the indigenous Naxi people, who live in a handful of small hamlets. Their primary subsistence comes from grain production and hikers.
Geography
Around 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) in length, the gorge is located where the river passes between the 5,596 metres (18,360 ft) Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the 5,396 metres (17,703 ft) Haba Snow Mountain in a series of rapids under steep 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) cliffs.
Administratively, the river in this area forms the border between Yulong Naxi Autonomous County of Lijiang City (right bank) and Shangri-La County of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (left bank).
The gorge is not considered navigable. In the early 1980s, four rafters attempted to go down the gorge and were never seen again. In 1986, the first known successful attempt to sail through the gorge was made by the first expedition to float down the entire length of the Yangtze, starting at the river's high source at the Gelandandong glacier lake.[4]
The area was officially opened to foreign tourists in 1993,[5] but had attracted adventurous backpackers already in the 1980s. Officials plan to improve the existing trails and roads, bringing tour buses and more development. These plans arouse highly varied reactions among the local population, from strong opposition to strong support.[5]

From Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to old town of Lijiang, you will experience the breathtaking sceneries and cultures.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (simplified Chinese: 玉龙雪山; traditional Chinese: 玉龍雪山; pinyin: Yùlóng Xuěshān) is a mountain massif or small mountain range in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang, in Yunnan province, China. Its highest peak is named Shanzidou (扇子陡) and is 5,596 m (18,360 ft) above sea level.
The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain massif forms the bulk of the larger Yulong Mountains, that stretch further north. The northwestern flank of the massif forms one side of the Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia, 虎跳峡), which has a popular trekking route on the other side. In this gorge, the Jinsha (upper Yangtze) River descends dramatically between Jade Dragon and Haba Snow Mountain. The Yulong Mountains lie to the south of the Yun Range and are part of Southwest China's greater Hengduan Mountains.[5]
Settlements surrounding Jade Dragon Snow Mountain include Baisha Town to the south, Longpan Township to the west, Daju Township to the northeast, and Jade Water Village at the foot of the mountain to the east
