This is a continuation of our Taxi Tour of Taiwan. We Stopped off at a short walking distance at the Jinguashi Gold Eco Park. We walked to the Gold Museum to see the history of gold mining and touch a golden nugget. After that we got some lunch at the Delicious Mineworker's Lunch Box restaurant.

Heels 2 Wheels: Taiwan - Gold Museum in New Taipei City (Ep 28)
The Gold Museum is located in the mountainous town of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi) in Ruifang Township, New Taipei City. With plenty of historical, humanities and natural heritage, the park lays special emphasis on heritage preservation and sustainable development.
In addition to enjoying the unique geological and natural sights here, visitors of the park will have better understanding of the mining history and community culture of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi).
It is an interesting place for history lovers to visit and one gets a good introduction to the prosperous past of this now quiet town. Of course, it's a must-visit for gold lovers of any age and an activity not to be missed is that of attempting to lift the 220kg gold bar. It's been said that if anyone can lift it, it is theirs to bring home!
Visitors who want a memorable souvenir can also get a plate with sand, learn how to wash, pan, filter and then, pour the remaining contents into a small bottle. So, how much gold dust/flakes you get depends on how lucky you are!

Jinguashi (金瓜石), located in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City, is famous for its gold and copper mines. Situated between the mountains and the coastline, Jinguashi boasts exceptionally beautiful scenery as well as an abundance of historical relics from the erstwhile mining days, making it an ideal tourist spot in northern Taiwan.
The New Taipei City Gold Museum (新北市立黃金博物館), formerly known as the Gold Ecological Park, is a museum of the gold mining industry in Ruifang District, New Taipei, Taiwan.[3][1] The Gold Museum is an open-air museum consisting of several buildings and sites.
The Gold Museum is located in the mountainous town of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi) in Ruifang Township, New Taipei City. With plenty of historical, humanities and natural heritage, the park is the first ecology museum in Taiwan. It lays special emphasis on heritage preservation, sustainable development; old buildings reuse as well as localized operations aimed at promoting regional development. As early as the Sung Dynasty dating back 700 years, archival accounts recorded the abundance of gold sand being harvested along eastern coastline of Taiwan, where the indigenous people had learned to trade with gold. In fact, for the Europeans in the Age of Discovery Taiwan was the Treasure Island of the East in the legend.
Located in the Gold ecological Park, New Taipei City (Taipei County)'s Jinguashi, Jiufen, the Museum of Gold was opened during year 2004 as one of Taiwan's first museum planned as an eco-museum. The aim is to combine community power and preserve the precious natural resources, mining relics, landscape, historical memories and cultural property of Jinguashi.

Golden Waterfall is located near the Gold Ecological Park (黃金博物園區) in Jinguashi. Although real gold flowing from these falls would be too good to be true, the water is certainly a beautiful gold color as a result of the combination of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed.

DECEMBER 17, 2016—Our first day tour in Taiwan brought us to an old and now defunct mining site in Jiufen, New Taipei City, about an hour's drive from Taipei. We passed by this beautiful curtain waterfall with a unique golden color. Truth is, the golden color of the rocks is actually from the mine tailings when the gold and copper mine in the area was still operational. Luckily the stain from mine tailings resulted to the beautiful golden effect, thus, the waterfall's name.

Golden Water Fall at Jiufen District Taiwan
The Golden Waterfall is located near the Jinguashi area. the waterfall is in gold color as a result of regular rainfall in this mining area and the abundance of heavy metal elements deposited in the riverbed. The cascade of gold flowing down the hillside contrasts to the luminous green grass at its head. Indeed, the natural beauty of this place makes it a favorite for photographers.
The water may be beautiful but its toxicity makes it unsafe even for touching.
