Outback Australian Art - John Murray shares his latest painting
Back in his Lightning Ridge studio with his buddy Bazyl, John chats about his recently completed triptych on canvas. The Dingo Fence has been a favorite subject of John's for many years now, and though he has continued to paint it, the narrative is always from a fresh perspective. This time the concept of the grass is greener on the other side and the tendency of choosing curiosity and adventure over the advice of our more experienced elders, in this case the Mother dingo....tells the story. Once again Murray has captured the expansive beauty of arid outback Australia in all its dry, dusty resplendence.

Last Train to Nowhere John Murray zooms in on the Old Ghan Line
Australian pioneering history is slowly crumbling along the Oodnadatta track. Outback artist John Murray's studies of the remnants of the sidings along the Old Ghan Line pay homage to the pioneering past of this desolate part of Australia.
This acrylic triptych showcases Murray's ability to combine colour, texture and a sense of haunting space. No visit to Lightning Ridge is complete without a visit to John Murray's world class art gallery on the edge of the outback. This painting is available for purchase at johnmurrayart.com.au

ARAMAC PAINTING
Artist Wayne has just finished a painting which is influenced by his trip to Northern Queensland...especially the beautiful country town of Aramac.
Aramac is a small town in Central West Queensland, Australia, lying 68 kilometres north of Barcaldine. It is situated on Aramac Creek, which flows into the Thomson River 60 kilometres west of town.
The predominant industry is grazing. The town water for Aramac is supplied from two bores connecting into the Great Artesian Basin.
Two on the Great Divide: Bendigo Gallery
A sneak peak at the new series airing on ABC1 this Sunday (22/04/12) at 7:30.
Once again Tim Flannery and John Doyle are off on a long journey through Australia, this time following the Great Dividing Range from Victoria up through New South Wales and Queensland, finishing in the Torres Strait. Their journey will encompass many stories about the range; from the geological formation, the fossils that lie witness to a deep past, the human interaction with the range and the environmental changes along the way. Tim and John will also be talking to people along the range about issues that matter to them. These issues will range from the serious to the light-hearted, from local to national, including the wealth divide, environmental destruction, sporting rivalries and Aussie legends.

2 Aussie Pubs
Australia is a very unique country. That goes for some of the out of the way pubs/hotels that you find out there. The Hebel Hotel with its unique artwork by the outback painter John Murray and the Nindigully Hotel, known for its huge hamburgers and creekside camping area. Both worth the effort of visiting.

Lyrics below
Don't ask any questions
Don't snoop around his claim
He'll be out with a dog and a shotgun
Who knows what he's hiding
Or why he makes his stand
Men like him are buried alive
With Opals in their hands
Well they say he came from Lismore
That's about all we know
He came for a weekend only
Twenty years ago
Well he must have had money in the bank
Or he's found a lot more than potch
For every month he sends a cab
For another case of scotch
He's a dreamer, he's a drinker
A Bull-Ant in a hole
He's a schemer, He's a thinker
He's a lonely soul
He's gouging for the opal
Like a Wombat or a Mole
Way out there at Lightning Ridge
Down below the Leopardwood
Below the Biblebox
Get your thrill on lunatic hill
Flashes of dancing colour, Green and Gold and Red
Mix it with black and you're on your back
Digging until you're dead
Well, It's not about a fancy car
It's not about the cash
They passed the hat for a swimming pool
And built it in a flash
No, It's all about the Opal
You get it in your eye
You see a glimpse of heaven
With Angels in the sky

Lyrics below
Write me a letter wherever you are
Be it Manchester or Zanzibar
Whether in Moscow or Japan
Write me a letter whenever you can
If you're in China or Peru
Or riding a Camel in Timbuktu
Say that you miss me, put it in the mail
Care of Sydney 2000, New South Wales
No don't you forget me, whatever you do
And don't you worry, I'll write to you
If you're in Chicago out on the town
Tell me about it, write it down
And if you're lonely and feeling blue
Remember the warm hearts and the Kangaroo
Remember the sunshine, I'll be trimming my sails
In Sydney 2000, New South Wales
