Johnson's Beach, Guerneville, CA...Panasonic HC-V100 Test
I was very excited at the thought of using the Panasonic for its first full day of shooting today. I love Panasonic cam, and I have been doing well with my standard definition SDR-H76. This HC-V100, though, is in a class by itself when it comes to rendering color and saturation, with minimal smearing. Even when shot in 1920 x 1080p, it renders beautifully in 480p mode on YouTube. It's a winner!

Discover Russian River Wineries HD 2012
WineQuesters.com brings you a brief overview of Sonoma County's Russian River Valley wineries. See what is there and why visit this wonderful wine region.
The Russian River Valley is a large area of low hills and agriculture influenced by cool coastal breezes and fog. It is perfect for Pinot. Exploring this region involves driving quiet country roads and exploring small towns. If you want to walk instead of drive you have that option in Healdsburg. Healdsburg has a beautiful town plaza in the center with quality shopping and restaurants in the town core. There are also a LOT of tasting rooms, over 20, to keep you busy for days, or even years.
Traveler services are centered in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg with some services in Windsor. Healdsburg is a wonderful small town to hang out in but is more expensive than Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa has a wide range of hotels and restaurants and the downtown has been nicely redeveloped. You can't go wrong staying anywhere in the region.

Abalone Diving Beach; Historical Post Office left in 1992 condition; Elk, California
Could the divers be searching for abalone? I didn't think about that at the time. Maybe they were diving for more than just a sightseeing tour. I heard their is some kind of daily limit on abalones, but not sure how it all works.

Winter Storm Northern California| Russian River Continues to Rise
California town officially an island as rain-swollen rivers overflow and trigger evacuations.
Guerneville, Calif. — Torrential rains caused a river in northern California to overflow, leaving the town of Guerneville completely isolated. the Russian River in Sonoma County flooded all of the roads leading to the town.
The river reached 42 feet Wednesday morning, which is considered to be at a major flood stage. By Wednesday night, the river could crest at 46 feet, making it the sixth highest on record. According to the National Weather Service, it won't go below the flood stage until Friday.
Guerneville is officially an island, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. A short time later, an official said the nearby town of Monte Rio was also isolated by floodwaters with all roads leading to it swamped.
By Tuesday night, the Napa River also overflowed. It's expected to crest later in the day. Parts of West Marin County were also flooded. Water filled yards and flowed underneath homes.
About 4,000 residents of Guerneville and two dozen other communities along the river were ordered to evacuate Tuesday evening.
There also was concern about potential mudslides in hillside areas saturated from days of downpours, and in areas scarred by 2017 wildfires.
A mudslide Tuesday near Monte Rio trapped a man and a woman before they were rescued, messy but unharmed.
I fell into the mud when the tree fell over the top of me. It happened so fast you don't even know, you know? Kear Koch told KGO-TV.
Elsewhere in the area, several people had to be rescued from cars stranded while motorists tried to drive through flooded roads, including a woman who was rescued by boat.
Firefighters in Monte Rio worked through the night pulling people out of cars stuck in flooded roadways and getting people out of their homes as water approached, Fire Chief Steve Baxman told the Press Democrat newspaper.
We took 17 people out of cars and houses during the night. Too many people are driving into water, he said.
Dee Rydberg on Tuesday removed computers and printers from her business, Guerneville Graphics and Printing.
I could not afford to buy flood insurance, she said. So I'm packing up my stuff and getting out.

Goat Rock Beach - Russian River - Jenner, CA - 01/10/2016
The mouth of the Russian River after a few days of El Nino rains. Great to see a good quantity of water coming down again. Low tide is just beginning. Nice rip currents in the mouth as the river meets the incoming waves. Lots of feeding going on in those churning waters. Sorry for the shake. Video was taken with a DSLR and zooming isn't as smooth with that lens.
