Jolfa in Isfahan - Armenian Churches and Armenians in Iran
New Julfa is the Armenian quarter of Isfahan, Iran, located along the south bank of the river Zayandeh River. In 1606 it was established as an Armenian quarter by edict of Shah Abbas I, the influential shah from the Safavid dynasty. Over 150,000 Armenians were moved there from Julfa (also known as Jugha or Djugha) in Nakhichevan, Azerbaijan. Iranian accounts state that the Armenians came to Persia fleeing the Ottoman Empire's persecution (see this article on Iranian churches); Armenian accounts state that the population was moved by force and their hometown destroyed (see Hin Jugha in Armeniapedia). All accounts agree that, as the residents of Julfa were famous for their skill with silk textiles, Shah Abbas hoped that their settlement in Isfahan would be beneficial to Persia.New Julfa is still an Armenian-populated area with an Armenian school and at least twelve churches, including Vank Cathedral, the Church of Bethlehem at Nazar Avenue, Saint Mary church at Julfa Square and the Yerevan church in the Yerevan area. Armenians in New Julfa observe Iranian law with regard to clothing, but otherwise retain a distinct Armenian language, identity and culture. Popular with young people in Esfahan, it is experiencing considerable growth compared to other districts. Vank Cathedral, also known as The Church of the Saintly Sisters, is the most visited cathedral in Isfahan, Iran. Vank means cathedral in the Armenian language. Vank Cathedral was one of the first churches to be established in the city's Jolfa district by Armenian immigrants settled by Shah Abbas I after the Ottoman War of 1603-1605. The varying fortunes and independence of this suburb across the Zayandeh River and its eclectic mix of European missionaries, mercenaries and travelers can be traced almost chronologically in the cathedral's combination of building styles and contrasts in its external and internal architectural treatment.

In the presentation you will see the inside of the Vank or Holy Savior-cathedral with wonderfull fresco's telling the story of the bible in paintings.
You also see the Armenian Genocide Memorial and pieces in the museum of Khachatur Kesaratsi. At least there is the Bethlehem Church with fresco's that tell a another story with cruelties.
Iran . Isfahan .The Armenian Quarter
Armenian Christians, fled by the Turkish persecutions in Armenia and Azerbaijan, were attracted by the reign of Shah Abbas. They sat in the Jalfa district of Ispahan. They built a monastery in 1606, where the Vank church, which was considered the most important Christian monument in Iran, also known as the Church of the Holy Sisters, was built.

(ENG-SUB) JOLFA : DIUNDANG PERKUMPULAN SYIAH DI LITTLE ARMENIA (INVITED BY THE SHIA COMMUNITY)
Jolfa, an area across the Zayandeh River is a residential area of the Christian community in the city of Isfahan. Known as Little Armenia because the region has been inhabited by armenians since the 16th century AD. There are several historical places with a touch of Armenian culture that are well preserved as evidence of the existence of the Armenian Christian community in Jolfa. We had the opportunity to visit one church that has very beautiful ornaments in it. Accidentally, we were also invited by local residents to attend an important day commemoration event for Shia Moslem residents in the area

Esfahan (Iran) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Esfahan in Iran.
With its historic centre, Esfahan is situated on the banks of the Zayandeh Rud River and is a gem of ancient Persia. In the centre of the historic city centre is the modest Pillar Halls Mosque which is thought to have been built above a fire temple. In around 1087, Seljuk vizier, Nizam Ol-Molk, had the pillar hall and its many small brick domes, completed. Due to a fire lit by the Assassins in 1121 A.D., the original mosque was destroyed. Following the death of Shah Abbas, around thirty thousand Christian Armenians settled in the Julfa district where they built the Savior Cathedral. Its interior features the history of the Christianisation of Armenia that is depicted on several illustrated panels created by the Holy Gregor. The grandeur of Islamic architecture is reflected in Emam Square, the central square of the Safavid Era, known as The image of the world. It is seven times larger than the Piazza San Marco in Venice. To the south the square is lined by a domed structure which for some years has been known as the Emam Khomeini Mosque, perfectly aligned toward Mecca. Esfahan is an architectural work of art and today one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Song translate in French:
Le sourire est revenu avec ta venue
De ma bouche des mots disparus
Regarde mes larmes, des larmes de joie,
Tes mains généreuses plus grandes que ma foi
Les trottoirs ne me verront plus tout seul
Nos chagrins s’envolent avec le vent
Flâner avec toi, c’est une promenade à Paris, c’est sucrer le café de tes yeux
aigris
Viens! Faisons fondre la nuit dans le vin,
Dans la ruelle Djolfa, faisons qu’un.
