Exploring OGUNQUIT MAINE: North Beach, Marginal Way and Perkins Cove
Come along with me and my friend Natasha as we explore Ogunquit Maine, IMHO the best beach of the northeast Atlantic coast.
I went to Ogunquit a few times as a child with my parents and I must admit I have a special fondness for it in my heart. I have been back about 4 times on my own or with friends in my adult life. It is just a 5.5-hour drive from Montreal so a great 4-day weekend destination.

Our day started with lunch and finding a beach with free parking. In the summer, you don,t get here early, parking will be a challenge. We spent a couple of hours on North Beach.
After a candy store stop, we headed back right into Ogunquit where we did find late afternoon parking. Since we were not hungry yet we decided to walk the cliff trail called the Marginal Way. It is a breathtaking easy hike along the Atlantic coast that ends in pretty Perkin's Cove.
There is a trolley system in the summer months so we hopped on a trolly to make our way back to Ogunquit, before heading out for the best lobster dinner ever....which will be the next video.

The first and only garage I found in Ogunquit Maine! Its small, but is 2 bay and is underground so whats not to like!
Tectonic dike on the Ogunquit Maine shoreline
300+ million year old evidence of the rifting that produced the Atlantic Ocean. The dike is about 2 meters wide. The exact location of the camera was 43.239498 deg N, 70.589122 deg W.
The view is from a bridge that is part of the Marginal Way seaside walkway -- about a two minute walk from Barnacle Billy's restaurant.
The dike was produced by intrusive rising magma as the Pangaea continent began to break up. Perpendicular normal faults were produced as the two continents (N. America and Africa) began to move apart. The rift was then flooded to produce the still-widening Atlantic Ocean.
Maine's Award-winning Chefs
When the nominees for the James Beard award as Best Chef in the Northeast were announced in the spring of 2007, Maine had more candidates than any other state in the region, including Massachusetts and upstate New York. To most professional chefs, this is the highest award to which they can aspire. In the end, though the top honor eluded them, judges lauded Rob Evans, of Hugo's in Portland, and Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier, of Arrows in Ogunquit, for their culinary excellence.
Just glance at any national list of top chefs or stellar restaurants, and Maine shows up again and again.
* In past years, Melissa Kelly, now at Primo in Rockland, and Sam Hayward of Portland's Fore Street Restaurant, have won this most coveted of all culinary honors.
* Food and Wine Magazine editors named Steve Corry of 555 Congress Street, in Portland, one of the The Best New Chefs in the U.S. in 2007. In 2004, Hugo's Rob Evans won this award.
* When Gourmet Magazine issued its latest (2006) selection of the 50 Top Restaurants in the U.S., Arrows in Ogunquit and Portland's Fore Street made the list (at numbers 14 and 26, respectively).
* Bon Appetit Magazine recently called Arrows One of the ten most romantic restaurants in the U.S.
* The White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, with executive chef Jonathan Cartwright, is the only restaurant anywhere in New England to win both the AAA Five Diamond and Mobile Five Star awards. It also topped Conde Nast Travelers Best of the Best award for any restaurant at a resort worldwide.

Norman E. West Jr., 64, of Ogunquit, died Friday, November 11, 2016 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a period of failing health.
Norman was born May 16, 1952, in Exeter, N.H., the son of Norman E. and Alice M. (Gimond) West. He grew up in Newton, N.H., one of seven children. He attended Sanborn Regional Schools graduating in 1972. He received a scholarship to Plymouth State. Norman moved to Maine in 1974. He then attended Portland School of Art, graduating in 1980.
Norman was passionate about art and became a renowned artist and teacher. He attributes his next door neighbor in Newton, Clifford R. Bryer (Uncle Cliff), for not only giving him art lessons but taking him to museums and cultivating his passion for art. Norman taught many classes at many schools - Heartwood College of Art, Traip Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas to name a few. His work is around the world in many private collections but locally it can be found at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Barn Gallery and Van Ward Gallery. He was a member of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, the Ogunquit Art Association, N.H. Art Association and was on the board of the Ogunquit Heritage Museum.

Innkeepers Eric and Charlene Taubert choreographed this incredible evening event in the backyard gardens of The Hartwell House Inn with a sumptuous array of Ogunquit Maine seafood, a live-painting demonstartion by Artists-in-Residence Chris Gerard Galatioto and music by Don Sevhead Severance.
