wine.co.za visits Jordan Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Gary Jordan owner of Jordan Wine Estate explains why Cabernet and Chardonnay are such great varieties. Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines since 1993. Gary's parents, Ted and Sheelagh, bought the 146 ha Stellenbosch property in 1982, and embarked on an extensive replanting programme specialising in classic varieties suited to the different soils and slopes.

A lawyer, a pilot, a dog-father, a CEO, a talk show pundit, a polyglot, a techie, a vintner; these are just some of the titles John Jordan carries. If you ask him to pick just one (I didn't), I think he would pick a land lover.
He lit up when he spoke about his iconic estate, a preserved natural habitat, and home to more animals than we could count on camera. The 1,200-acre sanctuary (open to the public since 2013) is surrounded by grapevines, olive trees, a glorious garden, and home to a French inspired Chateau where they focus on Alexander Valley Cabernet, Russian River Chardonnay, and out of this world hospitality.
Over 40 years ago, a couple of Francophile's from Colorado, made their way to Sonoma County, where they created one of the most famous and talked about wine brands in the world. From Mommy Bloggers to Lebron James, literally everyone is talking, tweeting, and instagraming about Jordan Winery.
Jordan winery has managed to keep up with the times, by always staying true to its roots.Tune in as they taste the 2015 Jordan Cabernet, aged in 100% French Oak for the first time, and available to the public on May 1, 2019.

Dornier Wine Estate - Stellenbosch - South Africa
Winery:
Dornier's loft-style winery is a new attraction in the Cape Winelands. With its curved roof and the use of face brick and reflecting materials, the building blends creatively into the dramatic scenery of Stellenbosch Mountain. The tasting room is a lookout post to the surrounding forest, vineyards, fynbos and mountains. The style of the winery is a visual translation of our wines -- elegant, clear yet complex and distinctly unique.
Rust en Vrede Wine Estate and Restaurant - Stellenbosch
Published on 12 Feb 2014
For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but for the last 32 years our family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.
Many accolades have been bestowed upon the estate and some of the more memorable were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner and hosting the Queen of Denmark for a lunch with my family at the Manor House. Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World and repeated this achieved for four consecutive years.
Today Rust en Vrede continues to be a fine example of what Stellenbosch is all about and we will strive to be a driving force in promoting our wines, our region and ultimately our country.
You are always welcome at Rust en Vrede and on behalf of my family and colleagues, we are looking forward to your visit.

Things to do in Stellenbosch, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:
On our very first trip to South Africa we spent one day in Stellenbosch where we did a wine tour and hit up a total of 5 wineries. It was an action packed day but we knew we had only seen a fraction of what this place has to offer and we were itching to return! Fast forward two years, and we found ourselves with an invitation to come and experience Stellenbosch, this time with a week to spare. Naturally we said yes! This being the winelands meant that our itinerary was wine heavy, but we also got to see sample the food, visit the markets, check out the nightlife and get close to nature. The following is our travel guide to Stellenbosch, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back, and join us on this ride!
In between all the feasting and vineyard hopping, we also found a bit of time to explore Stellenbosch itself. Stellenbosch is a charming town located in the Western Cape, and it’s the second oldest European settlement in the province after Cape Town. The streets are lined with oak trees, the buildings are all painted white, and you have a cool mix of Early Cape, Cape Dutch, and Victorian architecture.
And while Sam was off hiking, I did a biking tour of Stellenbosch with the Adventure Shop, where I learned a bit more about the town’s history, and got out in nature, before biking over to the Lanzerac Wine Estate where we met up with the group again. Here we had a light lunch featuring a spread of cheese, deli meats, fresh fruits, and of course, wine!
And just like that our week in Stellenbosch was over! I think it’s fair to say that we left a few pounds heavier, but with a newfound appreciation for South African wine and a taste of what the winelands have to offer. As always, we hope you enjoyed this travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do in Stellenbosch. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to see, eat, or experience, feel free to share those with travellers in the comments below. In the meantime we wish you happy travels and we’ll see you in Cape Town on our next video!

Jacques Steyn GM at Jordan wines in South Africa
Jordan Wines creats the perfect synergy between Soul and Soil in their winemaking. Jordan is located just outside Stellenbosch in the Cape region. They have been making world-class wines since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years. From the hillside vineyards you have spectacular panoramic views of Table Mountain, False Bay and Stellenbosch. The vineyards benefit from their close proximity to both the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and enjoy a mild, Mediterranean climate with a maritime influence. Let´s meet general director Jacques Steyn and hear about how Jordan´s philosophy combines the vineyards’ natural assets with innovative management, creating a profound expression of the terroir.
