Josephine Gordon wants to be the first woman to win the Derby
Josephine Gordon wants to be a queen in the Sport of Kings.‘I’d like to be the first woman to win the Derby,’ says the 25-year-old Devon-born jockey. ‘And what I really want is to be champion jockey!’Tipped to be the best British female jockey of all time, Gordon transcended culture and religion in 2016 as the first woman to ride for Godolphin, the stable of the Maktoum family. But many doubt there will ever be a female champion jockey, Paul Nicholls and AP McCoy among them. Gordon’s response is emphatic. ‘Well we’ve just got to prove them wrong, haven’t we.‘If you want to fit in with the jockeys, you have to show you’re a bit of a lad to be taken seriously and get stuck in with the banter. I definitely give as good as I get now. There is still banter with the girls but it is different, we just abuse the boys!’ The youngest of four, and worked evening shifts to support the family. It was Cheryl who taught her to ride. ‘I was practically born on a horse,’ she added. ‘Mum was riding out one day and felt it was getting a bit uncomfortable and the next day I was born.‘I used to get put up on anything as a kid, which gave me a good feel for a horse. This pony was wild, so we thought let’s give pony racing a go. I remember after my first ride I thought wow, I’m going to be a jockey. ‘Mum was strict and wouldn’t let me hang around town with my friends. The first time I was allowed to go out was also the last. I was 15, had only been gone for two hours when she had a phone call from the police. I was caught with a bottle of vodka. And that was it, I was grounded for life!’ Gordon moved out at 16 to go to the British Racing School. ‘After two weeks I said to Mum: “I probably won’t come home. I’ll get a job somewhere up here. When I came home after nine weeks, I got up to my room and Mum had completely emptied it.’Gordon, who has ridden for more than 200 trainers, had her first win five years ago. ‘A filly called Chester’slittlegem. She was a horrible ride, no one liked her apart from me. Then I didn’t have a winner for a year and a half and thought I wasn’t good enough. ‘I thought I’d give it one last shot so I asked Stan (Moore) if he was looking for an apprentice. It was the best thing. He put me on everything and really got me going.’Gordon had some success with Moore with several good wins which put her on the map and now she rides regularly for Sir Michael Stoute and Hugo Palmer. She has even had lunch with the Queen. ‘I had Sir Michael Stoute’s wife ring me and say “we’ve got the Queen coming for lunch, would you like to meet her?”.‘So I went and I just sat there in shock, just staring! I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.’ With next week’s Investec Derby looming, Gordon hopes she will pick up a few rides. ‘I’ve never ridden in it before,’ she added.‘It’s a huge deal — it’s one of the biggest races around one of the most testing tracks with the best quality of horses. I don’t know if I’ll have a ride this year but it would mean the worl
The Jets - Alligator Come Across (Live at Where House in Derby, UK, 1992)
The Jets were formed in 1978 when Tony Cotton joined older brothers Bob and Ray, who had previously been gigging in a 4-piece. The trio's talent was quickly recognized and they were soon gigging the national Rock 'n' Roll scene, being picked up by Soho Records. This deal spawned two singles Rockabilly Baby/James Dean followed by Sleep Rock 'n' Roll/Hey Baby - both highly collectable today.
Their ever increasing popularity got them noticed by Lightning Records, and their debut album, simply titled Jets pushed them into the mainstream when licensed to EMI. Each Jets single release saw increasing sales and airplay. Sugar Doll threatened to score a national hit, but it was the follow-up Yes Tonight Josephine that finally broke the top 30. This powerful track with its thumping bassline, a surefire hit with their fanbase, was melodic and catchy too, which, combined with their youthful good looks, made The Jets perfect for the pop market. It peaked at #25 in October 1981, followed by their biggest hit Love Makes The World Go Round which hit #21 in February the following year.
The album 100% Cotton also made the national Top 30, but chartwise The Jets had now peaked. Further attempts to crack the charts failed, and lacked the Rock 'n' Roll drive of their earlier releases. The Jets' days as pop stars were numbered.
As the song on this film states, You Can't Keep A Good Man (or band) Down - and the Cotton Brothers continued to prove themselves one of the best Rock 'n' Roll bands in the country with a string of superb releases on their own Krypton label. Solid live performances, like the one here, soon had them back in favour with the Rock 'n' Roll crowd.
Versatile enough to switch effortlessly between raw Rockabilly and polished Doo-Wop harmonies, and talented enough to blend both styles to perfection, Bob, Ray and Tony perform an upbeat set which combines Rockabilly obscurities, Rock 'n' Roll Classics and Jets originals, topping the bill at the 1992 Rockabilly Jamboree in Derby.

The Jets are still rockin' to this day, headlining Rock 'n' Roll events worldwide, sounding and looking as great as ever almost 30 years after their formation.

Mark Ronson's Family: Talented Siblings and Failed Marriage
A gifted British musician, a producer and a DJ Mark Ronson is an excellent example of a prominent figure in the music industry. He is a winner of five Grammys and two Brit Awards. As a musician he performs with an own group Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. However, he is more recognized in the music world as a sound-producer and a DJ. He manages to collaborate with worldwide known celebrities such as Adele, Miley Cyrus and others.
It would be interesting to know that Mark was born in a family that dealt with music as his father had sound-recording studios in London. In the year 2002, he released the first album that brought him popularity. The second album helped him to get a BRIT award in 2008. Apart from creating his own music, he also helps popular singers with their albums, such as Lady Gaga. Furthermore, he even worked on music for London Olympic Games as well as for a Royal Ballet.
Mark’s father Laurence was into the music sphere himself, being a promoter and an owner of a video distribution business. Additionally, he was a manager of a band called Buck Fizz that became popular during the Eurovision of 1981. After the divorce with Ann, he remarried again and became a dad to three more children.
The mother Ann met Laurence in her early twenties. For both of them it was love at first sight and soon they married. Ann herself is a very creative person, who works not only as a writer but also as a designer of jewelry. She remarried and with a new husband Mick Jones produced two more kids.
The step-dad Mick was a rock musician in a band Foreigner. It was he, who lured Mark into the music world and inspired him to pursue a career in this particular sphere.
The famous musician has blood twin sisters Charlotte and Samantha born in 1977. As for Charlotte, she works in New York as a fashion designer. She is married and has recently become a mother to a baby-boy.
Like her brother, Samantha is also a DJ and a songwriter. Nonetheless, she is not that internationally popular as her brother yet.
From mother’s second marriage, there is a half-brother named Alexander, who is also a DJ.
One more child from this marriage is a half-sister Annabelle, who is an actress and a model.
From the father’s side, there are three half-siblings. Henrietta is a remarkable lawyer, who often works with celebrities.
David is passionate about playing football and boxing. He is planning to build a career in sports.
The third and the youngest half-sibling is Joshua, who is an investment bank analyst.
As for the celebrity’s personal life, he had been married only once to an actress Josephine de la Baume since 2011 and till 2017. Before tying the knot officially, the couple had been dating for two years. Unfortunately, after six years, they broke up and a marriage didn’t result in any kids.
That is all.
