Luster is centered around the inner branch of the Sognefjord, which is called the Lustrafjorden. Its landscape includes fjords, steep mountains, water-abundant waterfalls, blue glaciers, and valleys. Both Jostedalsbreen National Park and Breheimen National Park are partially located in this municipality. The Sognefjellsvegen road goes over a mountain pass in eastern Luster.
DAY 7: Peered Into The Blue Ice | NIGARDSBREEN GLACIER | NORWAY ROAD TRIP 2019
Situated within the Luster municipality, Nigardsbreen is one of the most accessible branches of the Jostedalsbreen glacier in Southern Norway, where you can actually come into view with blue ice at a very close range.
The tour starts at 11am and hence we had to set off from Bergen as early as 5.30 am.
We booked a guided tour for this glacier hike and it's probably one of the best experiences we ever had in our lives.
The entire hike took us about 6 hours, but we didn't feel that we had enough. Thus, we hiked back to the foot of the glacier again (about 45 minutes through and fro) to have one last look at it.
According to the guide, the glacier moves and there can be avalanches. So we are actually putting our lives at risk by going back there alone.
But I didn't have a choice. There was one important, life-changing thing that I had to do, and there couldn't be a better place than right in front of the majestic Nigardsbreen glacier.

After yesterday's incredible drive I wasn't sure that we could top it, but we might have. The drive from Geiranger to Fjærland was breathtaking. Every time I think we are done seeing incredible things, we see more! We go ice climbing on a glacier tomorrow!
