Jotunheimen - Norway 4K
Jotunheimen is a mountainous area of roughly 3,500 km² in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all in Jotunheimen, including the very highest - Galdhøpiggen (2469 m). Jotunheimen straddles the border between the counties of Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane.
Jotunheimen contains Jotunheimen National Park, which was established in 1980 and covers an area of 1,151 km². The Hurrungane mountain range is also inside the national park with the sharpest peaks in Jotunheimen. Adjacent to the national park border is Utladalen Nature Reserve which covers the Utladalen valley and the mountain Falketind, amongst others.
Jotunheimen is very popular with hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number of mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails that run between the lodges and others that run up to some of the peaks.

Jotunheimen 2018 - Multiday Hike (Norway)
We hiked 8 days through the beautiful landscape and nature of the Jotunheimen national park in Norway. Most amazing were the many lakes and the rivers which connects them and in contrast the high mountains with their glaciers. Allthough it was very dry these days and we had more then enough sun, warm clothes and rain gear was a must bring.
In the first few days we met very few people during the hike. It really depends on the chosen route, if it is a connecting path of mountain refuges or not. In the second part we came to more popular tracks and experienced mass tourism on the famous Besseggen ridge. Fortunately, we chose to use two days hiking the ridge and stayed another night somewhere off the beaten path before we came back to the civilisation.
Our route in detail:
Day 1: Vargebakkan - Leirungsdalen
Day 2: Leirungsdalen - Torfinsdalen
Day 3: Torfinsdalen - Uksedalen
Day 4: Uksedalen - Storadalen
Day 5: Storadalen - Memurudalen
Day 6: Memurudalen - Bjornboltjonne
Day 7: Bjornboltjonne - Besseggen ridge - Bessvatnet lake
Day 8: Bessvatnet lake - Gjendesheim
The distances were pretty short, that we just walked 3-4 hours a day but needed up to 9 hours to reach the next destination. So we used the time and relaxing hike to take enough footage for you ;) For photos visit my blog: blog.lukasneugebauer.at

Jotunheimen is a largely undisturbed mountain area in Eastern Norway, covering an area of roughly 3,500 square kilometres. The mountain range is Norway’s most popular national park and includes the country’s two highest mountains Galdhøpiggen (2,469 metres above sea level) and Glittertind (2,464 metres above sea level), as well as waterfalls, rivers, lakes, glaciers, and valleys.
The area has the largest concentration of mountains higher than 2,000 metres in Northern Europe and offers some of the most scenic hiking on the continent – everything from short strolls to multi day hut to hut epics.
One of the highlights is the path along the narrow Besseggen ridge from Memurubu lodge to Gjendesheim lodge. The view southwards over an emerald coloured Gjendevatnet lake (984 metres above sea level) and northwards over Bessvatnet lake (1,373 metres above sea level) is a real treat.
