Bart On The Road (1 of 2)
Bart On The Road (1 of 2)
S07E20
Bart on the Road is the twentieth episode of The Simpsons' seventh season. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on March 31, 1996. In the episode, Bart makes his own fake driver's license. He rents a car with it and takes Milhouse, Martin, and Nelson on a road trip to Knoxville, Tennessee. In Knoxville, however, the car gets destroyed, and they are stranded without any money or transportation. To get Bart home, Homer orders equipment for the power plant and ships it via courier from Knoxville, with the boys stowed away inside the crate.
The episode was written by Richard Appel, and directed by Swinton O. Scott III. The idea of a road trip was so exciting that the writers immediately knew they wanted to write it. The episode features cultural references to the 1991 film Naked Lunch, American singer Andy Williams, and Look magazine. Since airing, the episode has received positive reviews from television critics; Central Michigan Life named it the eighth best episode of the series. It acquired a Nielsen rating of 7.2, and was the fifth highest-rated show on the Fox network the week it aired.
Bart and his friends use Bart's fake license to see the R-rated 1991 film Naked Lunch, an adaptation of William Burroughs's novel dealing with heroin addiction, homosexuality, and hallucinogens. The boys also see an Andy Williams concert in Branson, Missouri, and the marquee advertising it outside reads Wow, he's still got it – Look magazine, with Look having been out of business for 25 years when the episode first aired. On the road, the boys pick up a hitchhiker, who is based on the hitchhiker in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror film series. Principal Skinner books a vacation with AmeriWestica, a parody of America West Airlines.
In its original broadcast, Bart on the Road finished 63rd in the ratings for the week of March 25 to March 31, 1996, with a Nielsen rating of 7.2. The episode was the fifth highest-rated show on the Fox network that week, following The X-Files, Cops, Party of Five, Martin, and Melrose Place.
Since airing, the episode has received positive reviews from television critics. The authors of the book I Can't Believe It's a Bigger and Better Updated Unofficial Simpsons Guide, Warren Martyn and Adrian Wood, said that it contains some superb touching character scenes between Homer and Lisa, a fascinating glimpse of Marge's insecurities, and some nice touches that take it above the show's very high average. Dave Foster of DVD Times said that Bart on the Road is an episode which is built upon a frankly ludicrous idea which if the writers were to stumble upon now, we'd simply see Bart happen upon a license and skip town without anyone noticing, but here they do give the setup a great deal of consideration both on and off the screen. He thought the story was partly believable, though the opportunity when Bart hits the road is largely wasted with only a few well constructed jokes to speak of. Foster thinks, what saves the episode is the opportunity to see Lisa and Homer connect, once again displaying what a strong season this is for Lisa as we see the two share some wonderfully tender moments, alongside some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments.
DVD Movie Guide's Colin Jacobson enjoyed the episode and said that he loves the children's experiences at their parents' jobs, adding, and when they head out of town, the fun continues. Any episode that sends the kids to the site of the World's Fair is OK by me.[9] Jennifer Malkowski of DVD Verdict considered the best part of the episode to be when Patty and Selma explain their job at the DMV: Somedays we don't let the line move at all. We call those weekdays. Malkowski concluded her review by giving the episode a grade of B+.[10] John Thorpe of Central Michigan Life named it the eighth best episode of the series. Robert Canning of IGN gave the episode a score of 9.5 out of 10, calling it outstanding and summarizing his review with: Bart on the Road is a fun trip and very funny, but it's the way everything comes together that really makes it memorable. 1pp2p30eccmcv3443

29 year old man has 21 babies by 11 women
Father, 29, in child support court says he has 21 kids
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- On paper, he has 20 possibly 21 children.
With a minimum wage job, he can't afford to support them all.
What is the state to do?
Desmond Hatchett, 29, told WVLT he wasn't out to set a record, though he certainly holds it in Knox County Juvenile Child Support Court.
Hatchett's children range in age from newborn 11.
There are at least 11 mothers; probably several more.
Constitutionally, there is nothing the state can do to limit him from having more.
I had four kids in the same year. Twice. Desmond Hatchett told Volunteer TV.
On Friday, his name appeared on the docket 11 times; Representing about 15 of his 21 children.
Can you keep up with it all? WVLT asked Hatchett.
Yeah, he said.
You know all their names, and ages and birthdays?
Yeah.
Hatchett's name is pretty controversial at the old courthouse.
The children can't be supported all by Desmond, so the state of Tennessee has had to step in, Hatchett's attorney Keith Pope said.
It's your tax dollars at work.
WVLT spoke with one mom who has two children with Hatchett.
She is supposed to get $67.50 a month. But many times, she gets a lot less than what she's owed.
They all do.
It'll make it through half the month, the unidentified mom said.
She told Volunteer TV, Hatchett is the father of her two sons. And she says her 4-year-old is expensive enough on his own. He's a heavy milk drinker. And milk is not cheap, she said.
It's frustrating, but usually, when I ask he give it to me, she continued.
It's due process-- the state is only allowed to take 50% of Hatchett's paycheck.
That's 50% split multiple times.
You look at when they filed, how many children they have-- he has several mothers that he has two children with. And, it's tough Pope explained.
Still, Hatchett says the women knew what they were getting into.
They were all aware of his large family.
One said, she doesn't like it but she deals with it. It's about the kids. Not the parents, she said.
Hatchett agrees he should do what's best for the kids.
Do you intend to keep having children? WVLT asked.
No. Hatchett replied.
You're done?
I'm done. I'll say I'm done.
What made you say that?
I didn't intend to have this many. It just happened, Hatchett said.
Desmond Hatchett spent part of Friday afternoon jailed while a child support referee decided how to split up the $400 he brought to court.
If he doesn't pay what he owes, he will go back to jail because he is on an automatic jail order.
The mothers of Hatchett's children are supposed to get anywhere from $25 to $309 a month, but when his paycheck is garnished amongst them all, some women only get a $1.98 a month.

Detained by police at Walmart for not showing my receipt.
The officers name is Aaron Arnsperger. Their website is
I called and asked who it was and that is the only name on duty in that area that night, the face matches.
He made no report apparently.
This happened in Fort Wright Kentucky. At the Walmart located at 3450 Valley Plaza Parkway, manager is Christopher Witt. 859-341-7900
To preemptively answer expected responses.
1. Showing my receipt is not required, there is no law requiring me to do so.
2. As I left the short black 3rd shift security guard (how the officer identifies her), requested to see my receipt, it was literally in my right hand and she had just watched me pay via Samsung Pay with my Samsung Gear S3 watch, so fucking cool to do! r/hailcorporate lol. I held it up and said its right here. She asked again.
3. I said no thank you, have a great night. And continued walking.
4. After she asked me to stop and I stated no thanks, she stated stop, or I will stop your fat ass.
5. At that point I refused to respond to her anymore.
6. She continued after me and said she was going to call the police, I stated whatever floats your boat and pulled out my phone and turned on the video camera.
7. A police officer was in the store parking lot already so she flagged him down and sent him over to me.
Video starts as we are walking out after the initial confrontation.
Officer states I am being detained but refuses to state on what grounds, officer states that searching me for my receipt is not a violation of my 4th amendment rights. Rights he apparently is not aware of.
Now I am going to get a few of the commonly asked questions out of the way now.
No, I am not a freeman, or a sovereign citizen or a constitutionalist or any of the other bullshit.
Tonight I was simply annoyed with being stopped by a technology illiterate old hag accusing me of being a thief and not knowing how to do her own job.
Side note, why would someone wanting to uphold the constitution be considered a bad thing? I digress.
Yes, I am fat.
Yes I am a former Marine.
Yes I was pissed off at the officer, mainly because he was being a condescending prick when I know my rights and know he was wrong.
No, I won't be shopping at that location again.
Yes, I walked right back in and went to the service desk and returned the 125 dollars worth of weekly groceries I had just purchased, and yes, I told the manager on duty exactly why I had returned them and won't return.
There are other Walmart stores the same distance away if I want to go to one, and there is a Kroger right down the street from me which I will now always go to.
Quite literally the one and only reason I bother to go to Walmart is for their great value brand drink powder mixes, which I can order online so I never will have a reason to go back there again.
If your intent when leaving a comment is to call me names, it won't be approved, so don't bother to waste your time.
