Ju Hoansi Los Últimos Indígenas
N/um Tchai: Ceremonial Dance of the Bushmen - PREVIEW
Purchase: Tchai is the word used by Ju/'hoansi to describe getting together to dance and sing; n/um can be translated as medicine, or supernatural potency. In the 1950's, when this film was shot, Ju/'hoansi gathered for medicine dances often, usually at night, and sometimes such dances lasted until dawn. In this film, women sit on the ground, clapping and singing and occasionally dancing a round or two, while men circle around them, singing and stamping rhythms with their feet. The strength of the songs is their n/um, or medicine, thought to be a gift from the great god. N/um is also in the fire, and even more so in the owners of medicine, or healers.

To Hold Our Own Ground - PREVIEW
Purchase:
For thousands of years Ju/'hoansi have lived in the Nyae Nyae region in northeastern Namibia. In the 1950s, most Ju/'hoansi had been exterminated or were dispossessed by white colonists and black farmers, but in Nyae Nyae Ju/'hoansi were still the only permanent inhabitants. Waterless approaches isolated their ancient communal land and protected them from enslavement.

Namibia - San machen Feuer

Bushmen, Historic Lifestyle - Namibia
Living Museum of the Bushmen in north-eastern Namibia, approx. 23 km north of Tsumkwe.
The Bushmen show visitors their old historic, traditional culture, including hunting methods , the use of various bush food, tracking, snaring and making crafts, singing, healing dances and much more. The dress worn is reconstructed historically correct and all activities shown are original of their old culture.
It's in very stark contrast to their actual current lifestyle in the adjacent Modern Village (see video: which looks more like a slum and seems to be dominated by drug and alcohol consumption. What a shame that the oldest populations of humans on Earth has taken such a turn!

The San Bushmen of Botswana show us the basics of their way of life.
We see plants and roots used for medicine. A plant that gives extra speed and strength. Plant used for dying clothing and animal skins. Plant used for cleaning and bathing. How to make fire from scratch.
Modern Bushmen Village - Namibia
Modern Bushmen Village in north-eastern Namibia, approx. 23 km north of Tsumkwe. It's next to the Living Museum, where the bushmen show their traditional lifestyle (see video:
In stark contrast to their traditional lifestyle the Modern Village looks rather like a slum though. The bushmen have been relocated by governments from their ancestral lands. Their modern lifestyle is dominated by poverty, alcohol and drugs.
