Juan Diego Falls, El Yunque National Rainforest - Puerto Rico
— Juan Diego Falls — If there's one place in Puerto Rico that's truly a natural paradise, El Yunque National Rainforest, in Río Grande, Puerto Rico is it! Just 20 miles to the east of the San Juan Metroplex, this is the only subtropical rainforest in the U.S. Park System. Here you will find endangered bird species, beautiful waterfalls, a variety of flowers, lush vegetation, stunning vistas and winding hiking trails; all in a cool, mountainous setting that's simply breathtaking by any standard. Your Puerto Rico vacation would not be complete without visiting El Yunque National Rainforest.
El Yunque is located in the Sierra de Luquillo on the northeastern quadrant of Puerto Rico. El Yunque has been a protected forest since the 19th century when King Alfonso 12th of Spain declared it reserva de la corona, an area reserved for the Spanish Crown. Today it is the only forest in Puerto Rico managed by the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
The forest covers an area of approximately 114 square kilometers, which makes it the perfect place to get lost. So it's in your best interest not to stray away from the designated hiking paths.
Most visitors never get to see Juan Diego Falls because it's not next to the road. Once you pass the El Portal Tourist Information Center you will enter the forest through a one lane road. After you pass La Coca Falls and the Yokahu Observation Tower you will find a small bridge with a small trail that leads off to the right of the road. The exact GPS location is: 18.311819,-65.776988. Follow this trail for about 10 minutes and you'll arrive at this beautiful waterfall.
Juan Diego Falls is not very large when compared with others around the world. What makes it breathtaking is the luscious scenery an the fact that it's a double fall.
Juan Diego Falls is a lonely spot so be sure to go in a group for your own protection.

La Mina Falls, El Yunque National Forest - Puerto Rico
In this series of videos, I go outside of Florida on a different kind of journey as my wife and her sister fulfill the wishes of their mother who had passed away, by bringing her body back home to beautiful Puerto Rico to her final resting place. It had been a very long time since either of the girls had been back to where they came from, so while we were there we retraced their footsteps as kids, visiting places they had been to with their mom, from El Morro in Old San Juan to the rain forest in El Yunque. While there, I filmed what I could of my own experiences, since it was the first time I had ever been to Puerto Rico, and it won't be the last.

Juan Diego Falls Best Kept Secret of El Yunque
This is probably the best view in the whole park right here. You have a 30ft waterfall pouring into a small little lagoon and it is completely secluded and off the beaten path. Compare to the 50 plus people you will find crowded around La Mina or La Coca here there was only four people including us enjoying this little slice of heaven.
