Royal Wootton Bassett
Shows the small town of (Royal) Wootton Bassett, in Wiltshire.
Shows the Museum, and picturesque surroundings as well as Jubilee Lake, about a 10 minute walk away from the town.
The town became internationally known after the repatriations of 345 service personal who's body's were repatriated to RAF Lyneham two miles away, between 2007 and 2011.
The respectful dignified actions of the locals and others from further afield, did not go unnoticed, with HM the Queen Honouring the town with the Royal status in 2012.
(I have used some Titling although you may feel the need to pause the video - [using the 'mouse over' button at the bottom left had side] due to the duration it remains on the screen on the detailed text section!).
Due to trying to put together a few short video's, you may notice that I have repeated the name Royal Wootton Bassett on a few occasions as the shot theme changes - it was not intentional but at least the name continues as a place to be recognised, and honoured!

Travel Blog: UK Places - Royal Wootton Bassett
Another episode of my travel blog featuring places in the UK. This episode I visit Royal Wootton Bassett, in Wiltshire. It is overshadowed by Swindon, which is just 6 miles away. The town came into providence and was given the Royal seal and status during the early 21st century because of the involvement in repatriation of soldiers from conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Jurassic Cold Mud Springs, Royal Wootton Bassett
These are oozing springs of cold, grey mud which blister up under a thin layer of vegetation and are a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). Directions: From the canal car park opposite Templars Way, walk along the Wilts and Berks Canal to just after the wooden bridge, then cut south across agricultural land. The area is fenced off as it's not safe.
In June 1996, BMBA sent a team of microbiologists to monitor and sample the springs. They discovered some are over 120 metres deep. They ooze a steady flow of several cubic metres of fluidised mud a day. The scientists were interested in the anaerobic microbiology of the mud flow and the possible links between this source and the deep terrestrial biosphere. Fossils can be picked up from the stream bed, along with copious numbers of oyster shells, apparently discarded by the navvies who build the Wilts and Berks Canal.

(HD) 66056 TnT 60049 On 6W61 Through Wootton Bassett Junction 10/07/13
On the 10/07/13 I heard the news that 60049 was going to be on the rear of 6W61 Hinksey Yard - Kemble Empty Ballast (This was for the redoubleing of the line inbetween Kemble and Swindon)
So, i rang up Caleb (HSTCast98) who lives in Wootton Bassett and told him about the GEN i had recieved. We both agreed to meet up at the footbridge by the artificial canal in Wootton Bassett.
So i had an early dinner and rode the 11 mile bike ride from Minety to Wooton Bassett, while on the journey i had been given the news that it had left Hinksey Yard 25 Early, so i had to be quick about my journey, just short of 30 minutes i had arrived in Wootton Bassett High Street before taking the turn towards Broad Hinton.
I arrived at the footbridge just after quarter past 6, this was then when i got the news that i had gone through Wantage Road (The loop inbetween Swindon and Didcot) 50 minutes earlier, thinking it had already gone through i decided to film commuter services while i was there, After a while Caleb arrived and at that point we were told it was held at Swindon East Jn for a while (much to my relief)
After this we waited andat 19:23 runnning 1L it came through, sorry about the HST the other way didnt realise the it was due till i started filming!

The first event in Britain wasn't held until 1983, but last year almost 1000 events were hosted here.
To find out why, Christopher Panks of justaride.tv joined Swindon Triathlon Club for a week of training before competing at Royal Wootton Bassett Triathlon.
This video is the result.
With thanks to Ffion Davies and all at Swindon Triathlon Club - for more information on the club, please visit swindontriathlonclub.co.uk

There were a lot of swans and ducks in the lake. I tried to feed them. But it took time to pick some cereals from a pack by one hand. Birds looked impatient and even a bit angry at my slowness. ^^ Th

Swim with the Ducks
Take a breather and a relaxing swim after a long day's travel with a mallard duck!
The Great Lakes aren't just popular places for people to visit and take in scenery, they're also very popular with migratory birds that traverse the North American skies from season to season.
Birds that migrate every year to breed and find feeding grounds will usually travel along the same route year after year. These pathways through the skies and across the landscape are called skyways-- and the Great Lakes lie right in the middle of two of the biggest skyways in North America. For the ducks, geese, shorebirds and songbirds traveling the Atlantic and Mississippi flyways, the Great Lakes region is of great importance as a place to stop over to rest and find food on the long journey.
