Amazon Jungle, Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Contiki Trip The Explorer South America
DAY 6 - Cusco to Jungle Lodge
Cusco
Saying a final farewell to Cusco, we’ll hop on our included flight over the Andes to the city of Puerto Maldonado. With the sound of macaws and toucans welcoming us in, this can only mean one thing…it’s jungle time.
Puerto Maldonado
A quick tour of the city will reveal colourful fruit stalls, open air markets and locals going about their day. But now we're back underway and we just want to get to the jungle…
Jungle Lodge
What’s accessible only by boat, is made from wood and clay and surrounded by the sounds and colours of nature? Answer – our rainforest lodge, your blissful home for the night. We’ll work up a pre-dinner appetite by hiking to the canopy tower, then after a tasty home-cooked dinner continue our outdoor pursuits by heading out to spot caimans – a member of the alligator family native to the Amazon. Tonight promises to be one for the story bank as you fall asleep in your open-walled room to the exotic sounds of the surrounding jungle.

What to expect staying in a rainforest lodge in Peru ????????
As part of our superb Peru tour with GAdventures, we visited the amazing Tambopata Eco Lodge for 2 nights, led by our friendly, well informed guide, Leo.
We stayed in a bungalow with no electricity and solar heated shower, which might sound a bit rustic but was actually lovely. Well equipped with a real bathroom, flushing toilet, real beds and mosquito nets, table, chairs and hammock!
The restaurant served excellent, fresh buffet food and in the bar you could buy an ice-cold beer in the evening while they ran the generators for a couple of hours until blackout. After this all you could see were fireflies!
We did a night wildlife walk on the first evening, taking strong advice to tuck trousers into socks to stop ants crawling into socks/shoes. Then the second morning we did an early morning explore, spotting wildlife all the way.
This was an awesome experience, really well prepared, really well guided, yet still felt like miles from civilisation!
Exploring the Jungle: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon
Last weekend, we went to Puerto Maldonado and spent a few days staying at a lodge in the middle of the Amazon Rainforest. Check out this video to see our adventures!
SANDOVAL LAKE
sandoval lake: Lake Sandoval is making some of the reserves more for you to marvel. Located in the city of Puerto Maldonado department Tambopata. To get there you have to take a 50 minute to 1 hour flight from Cusco to Lima, then fly from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, time totaling about a 2 hour trip. From there we will go to the main port called Capitania where you will board an outboard motorboat and travel down the river Alto Madre de Dios enjoying the scenery that nature offers us, and the trip takes about 50 minutes. Then we register at the entrance of the nature reserve of Lake Sandoval, and we trek about 5 kilometers along a beautiful nature trail that will take us to the port that is located within the pristine forest and from there we take a paddle canoe for about 20 minutes where you will appear in the middle of lake Sandoval. Our staff will pilot you to our lodge which is about 1 hour or so while you enjoy the majestic scenery. We dock and take about a 5 minute walk from Lake Sandoval to the lodge where you will be welcomed with a typical drink in the area, and then be assigned their respective rooms. After lunch we will begin to explore the flora and fauna in sandoval lake lodge.

Jungle Canopy Adventure in Peru
What's the best way to see the amazing biodiversity up in the jungle canopy? By climbing up there and walking around!
Join Genevieve and Mike on one of South America's largest jungle canopy bridge systems. Suspended 103 feet above the ground, we walked for more than a quarter mile through the treetops.
Millions of species, many still undiscovered, spend their entire lives in this realm. We didn't see anything besides birds, but it was still pretty awesome to venture where, until recently, only scientists could.
The Inkaterra lodge, in partnership with World Bank and National Geographic, created this system of two towers and seven hanging bridges, woven through the crowns of the tallest trees.
It's considered one of the safest canopy walkways in the world, but that's not to say it wasn't a little scary up there!

Sandoval Lake Lodge | Amazon Experience by Peru Full Adventure
We had the opportunity to visit this wonderful Lodge a few weeks ago and we had the opportunity to talk with Yira, the administrator of Sandoval Lake Lodge, who told us a little about the services, facilities and tours you can do within the Lodge.
The Lodge is located in the middle of the southern jungle of Peru, in Puerto Maldonado. It is totally far from civilization and, the truth is, the connection with nature is amazing.
