Jūrmala, Latvija 24.05.2014.g. (Юрмала, Латвия)
Jūrmala (Latvian pronunciation: [juːrmala] seaside; German: Riga-Strand, Baltische Riviera) is a city in Latvia, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) west of Riga. Jūrmala is a resort town stretching 32 km (20 miles) and sandwiched between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River. It has a 33 km (21 miles) stretch of white-sand beach, and a population of 55,580, making it the fifth largest city in Latvia.
The city of Jūrmala actually consists of a string of small resorts. From west to east, these include Ķemeri, Jaunķemeri, Sloka, Kauguri, Vaivari, Asari, Melluži, Pumpuri, Jaundubulti, Dubulti, Majori, Dzintari, Bulduri and Lielupe.
The area now comprising the city of Jūrmala was formerly part of Riga, known as Rīgas Jūrmala. Some parts of the area, like Sloka and Ķemeri, have been known as health resorts for centuries. Jūrmala was once known in German as Riga-Strand, or Beach of Riga.

Museum of Occupation, Riga Latvia
The Museum of Occupation is next to the Tourist Information Office in Riga with free admittance. It is depressing but a traveler would be negligent not to learn about a country's history. Poor Latvia underwent 51 years of occupation. First the Soviets, then Nazis, then Soviets once again. Inhuman conditions and brutal Siberian exile for entire families. It's no wonder the older people in the Baltics don't smile. They've been repressed for their entire lives.
It is estimated that over 6 million people died in the Russian gulags!

467. Series City Real Estate in Riga and Jurmala (Latvia)
Buildings of this series were built in Riga in the 1970s and 1980s. These buildings are related to buildings of the 602 Series.
There are no significant differences between the two series in terms of their design and layout, except that buildings of the 467 Series are a bit younger and have a slightly different facade.
Contrary to other panel houses, external walls of the 9 storey buildings in the 467 Series may be decorated with coloured tiles or plastered with broken stone. Compared to the 602 Series, these buildings have loggias rather than balconies.
Buildings of this series are mainly situated in the Krasta housing estate, Purvciems, Plavnieki, Imanta, Kengarags, Ilguciems.
Compared to other panel houses, the pros and cons are:
Pros:
• Better heat preservation and sound insulation;
• More comfortable and spacious stairway;
• A comfortable layout (in particular for double room flats)
Cons:
• Minimal rebuilding options.
• Problems with heat and sound insulation
