Who is Michael Adams?
Michael Adams (born 17 November 1971) is an English chess grandmaster. His highest ranking is world No. 4, achieved several times from October 2000 to October 2002.[1] His peak Elo rating is 2761.
He has achieved good results in World Chess Championship tournaments. Several times a World Championship Candidate, he reached the semifinals in 1997, 1999 and 2000. At the 2004 FIDE Championship, he reached the final, narrowly losing out to Rustam Kasimdzhanov in the tie-break games. He is also a seven-time British Chess Champion.
Early career
Adams was born on 17 November 1971 in Truro, Cornwall, UK. By 1980, his chess talent had been recognised by the British Chess Federation and he received high-level coaching from former European Junior Champion Shaun Taulbut along with coaching from local chess champion Michael Prettejohn.[2] In 1981, aged nine, he entered the Cornwall (County) Under-9 Championship and won it. At the same event, he won the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-18 Championships. For one day, the latter two contests clashed and he had to play them simultaneously, commuting cautiously between different rooms, some thirty metres apart.[3]
In 1987, he took the silver medal at the World Under-16 Championship, held in Innsbruck, behind the Icelandic player Hannes Stefansson.[4] Later that year, at the age of fifteen, he became the world's youngest International Master (IM).[5]
Two books co-written with his father, Bill Adams, Development of a Grandmaster (1991) and Chess in the Fast Lane (1996), discuss his early chess career.
National success
Adams' early endeavours were already beginning to pay dividends at the British Championship of 1987, where he gained his final IM norm and took the best junior prize. He proceeded to win the full Championship title in 1989, at just seventeen years old. He won again in 1997, jointly with Matthew Sadler. He won the Championship again in 2010, 2011, 2016,[6] and 2018.[7]
His win at the British Chess Championship 2016 with 10/11 tied the record score set by Julian Hodgson in 1992.[8]
Adams also won the British Rapidplay Championship in 1995, 1996 and 1999.
World Championship candidate
Adams has performed strongly in a number of World Chess Championship tournaments.
In 1993 he finished equal first (with Viswanathan Anand) in the Groningen Interzonal tournament to determine challengers for the PCA World Chess Championship 1995. ....

What is Alpha Zero Chess?
AlphaZero is a computer program developed by artificial intelligence research company DeepMind to master the games of chess, shogi and go. The algorithm uses an approach similar to AlphaGo Zero. On December 5, 2017, the DeepMind team released a preprint introducing AlphaZero, which within 24 hours achieved a superhuman level of play in these three games by defeating world-champion programs, Stockfish, elmo, and the 3-day version of AlphaGo Zero. In each case it made use of custom tensor processing units (TPUs) that the Google programs were optimized to use.[1] AlphaZero was trained solely via self-play using 5,000 first-generation TPUs to generate the games and 64 second-generation TPUs to train the neural networks, all in parallel, with no access to opening books or endgame tables. After four hours of training, DeepMind estimated AlphaZero was playing at a higher Elo rating than Stockfish 8; after 9 hours of training, the algorithm decisively defeated Stockfish 8 in a time-controlled 100-game tournament (28 wins, 0 losses, and 72 draws).[1][2][3] The trained algorithm played on a single machine with four TPUs. DeepMind's paper on AlphaZero was published in the journal Science on 7 December 2018.[4]
Who is Stephen Gordon?

Mousehole - The Practical Traveller's guide to Mousehole in West Cornwall
#thepracticaltraveller #mousehole #westcornwall
Hi and welcome to another practical traveller’s guide. Today we are looking around Mousehole in West Cornwall. Its the perfect place to visit during your holidays in Cornwall.
• Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) is one of Cornwall's most picturesque hamlets located in West Cornwall, just 3 miles west of Penzance. Dylan Thomas once described the hamlet as ‘the loveliest village in England’.
• Historically it appears in record books as an important fishing port from as early as 1266.
• The roads in and out of Mousehole are narrow, twisty and steep so take your time. The general advice on most tourist sites seems to be to park on the out skirts of the hamlet and walk in.
• Next to the harbour wall you will find a small car park. However, on the numerous times we have visited we have always been lucky and found a space.
• Within the harbour walls you will find a small but very safe beach. This is a very popular spot with families, particularly those with small children. However, I have never seen this beach crowded.
• You can take a walk along the harbour wall to stretch your legs at Mousehole and enjoy the stunning views out to sea across the Mounts Bay. St Clement’s Isle, a small rocky islet lies just offshore of the harbour wall. This was apparently once the home of an ancient hermit.
• Most of the houses around the harbour at built from local finely grained Lamorna granite.
• Along the harbour road you will find galleries, gift shops and cafes. A particular favourite of ours is the deli café located right on the main road called Hole Foods. Theses limited seating but they do takeaways too. Don’t forget to explore the tiny streets too and many galleries and gift shops are tucked away.
• Dolly or Dorothy Pentreath was reputedly the last fluent native speaker of the Cornish language with many accounts suggesting she only spoke in Cornish. You can see her house, clearly marked with a plaque near the harbour wall. She dies in 1777 and a memorial to her can be found in the churchyard in the nearby village of Paul.
• If you find yourself in West Cornwall then Mousehole is definitely a place to visit. There are few places in the United Kingdom that have retained such original charm and character.
• Be sure to check out the description for lots of link to useful places such as accommodation and food options.

Daniella on Design - Liria Palace Furniture by Armand Albert Rateau Auctioned at Christie's
Music:
Lindiggity by DJ Come of Age
It is considered one of the most magical, poetic, and private interiors of the 20th century, yet, it consisted of just one bedroom, a bathroom, and a boudoir. It was created in the Liria Palace in Madrid for the 17th Duke of Alba, a Renaissance Man who served on such political appointments as Ambassador to Great Britain. He commissioned the legendary interiors for the apartment of his new wife, the stylish Duchess of Alba on the occasion of their marriage in 1920.
This interior was done by French decorator and furniture designer Armand Albert Rateau. Aside from the magnificent scheme and memorable, iconic furniture, these interiors act as a testament to a love story that lasted only 14 years, the love story of a powerful couple who became known for entertaining international high society with lavish balls. It ended when the Duchess died of tuberculosis at the age of 34.
The match between Rateau and the Duke of Alba could not have been better. An art connoisseur, the Duke had developed a taste for antiquity, and even went to Egypt on his honeymoon accompanied by no less than Howard Carter -- the archeologist who shortly afterwards would discover the tomb of Tutankhamen. Rateau himself, after visiting Pompeii in 1914, fell in love with the fantastic universe of ancient Rome and devoted his entire career to reimagining the aesthetics of the Romans. He made bronze furniture inspired by the frescoes of excavated Pompeiian villas. Both men were entranced by the art of the ancient world before creating these exceptional rooms.
The Liria Palace installation is so legendary that design enthusiasts have known about it for decades, but only from a small number of black-and-white photographs reproduced in books. These precious objects were desired and dreamed about, but inaccessible until now.
Now, Christie's offers Rateau's legendary furniture. The House of Alba, it was announced, has decided to sell the Armand Albert Rateau furniture in order to support the funding of its various palaces throughout Spain.
A pair of floor lamps salvaged from four, originally created for the bathroom.
A low table with a black marble top. A sofa in gilt carved wood.
A carved and gilt wood adjustable day bed, with carved drapery pattern and bronze tassels.
A white Carrara marble bathtub.
This landmark offering is the largest collection of furniture by Rateau to surface the market in recent years, and quite possibly the most dreamed about.

Artist Kim Jacobs' Cottage Cats.
Kim Jacobs has been one of my favorite artists for years. I've had her calendars, notecards and puzzles. I asked her permission to make this video of her artwork. Her artwork is so detailed and beautiful that the video does not do her work justice.
Kim's art inspired me to make The Cat House, my cat sanctuary, as sweet as she makes her world.
She has just come out with a book Cottage Cats. Please visit her website at kimjacobsart.com

Exploring Cornwall - A Walk Around St Agnes
I am on a whistle stop tour of Cornwall. My friend Mark Sellwood is showing me around St Agnes, a beautiful village on the north coast. This is just a stroll through and is not meant to be a detailed guide to the area.
The village of St Agnes, a popular coastal tourist spot, lies on a main road between Redruth and Perranporth. It was a prehistoric and modern centre for mining of copper, tin and arsenic until the 1920s. Local industry has also included farming and fishing, and more recently tourism.

What is 'home' to you?
Is it where you spent your childhood, or is it 'where the heart is'?
For my partner, it is without a doubt where he spent his childhood. He could never conceive of losing sight of where he grew up; it's a place that is interwoven into his personality.
I'm certainly attached to my Cambridgeshire roots, but home is Cornwall now. My parents moved there six months ago, and for me, home is wherever my parents are.
I admire their verve, moving to a brand new place in their seventies. And I can certainly see the irresistible draw of beautiful Cornwall. It just might be the most delightful spot in the British Isles. All vast yellow beaches, wild flowers, rocky coastal paths and rarified wildlife, Cornwall is a feast for the senses. And I like to think of myself as part Cornish now - there's something about the place that just instantly rubs off on you.
So are you ready for a trip to Cornwall? This is my first Cornish vlog, and what a delightful discovery it was for me and my baby.
I hope you enjoy my misadventures with the pasty! Remember, cooking is all about knowing how to turn errors into new and never-before-heard-of creations. ;-)
