Discover Scuba in Roatan Honduras
This was my first time scuba diving and we did the Discover Scuba while we are port on a cruise. The classroom part was very good and they covered everything they would be showing us and how the whole day would break down.
Once we got in the pool they covered the basics and learning how to clear the mask was a great new trick that I will be using even when snorkeling. It came in handy on this trip too. With facial hair i usually get a little bit of leakage that trickles in so it was nice to be able to clear the mask easy.
Once we got to the reef the experience was every bit as awesome as I thought it would be. I would def do this again. I felt very comfortable with our instructors and never felt nervous at all.
The one thing I would have liked to do different was be able to control my own buoyancy. There were times i felt like i was getting to close to the reef i would have liked to be able to just add a little air and float up a bit just for comfort level as I did not want to damage the reef.

Roatán Island Country in Honduras
Roatán (Spanish pronunciation: [ro.a.ˈtan]) is an island in the Caribbean, about 65 kilometers (40 mi) off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja and is the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras.
The island was formerly known as Ruatan and Rattan. It is approximately 77 kilometers (48 mi) long, and less than 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) across at its widest point. The island consists of two municipalities: José Santos Guardiola in the east and Roatán, including the Cayos Cochinos, further south in the west.
Though the official language of Honduras is Spanish, the most common language spoken on Roatan is Caribbean English. The official currency is the Lempira, but U.S. dollars are used just as frequently for all transactions.
Do people speak English in Honduras?
Apart from the people who speak Spanish, and a few who converse in one of the local dialects mentioned above, about 10,000 people in Honduras also use Bay Islands English. This is the English-Creole language used on the Caribbean coast of the country.
What is Roatan Honduras known for?
The island of Roatan is located 30 miles off the north coast of Honduras atop the world's second-largest coral reef. The reef attracts many fish and is world known for scuba diving. ... Originally an English colony, and later ceded to Honduras, Roatan has a mixture of English and Spanish speaking natives.
Does Roatan have hurricanes?
The one thing that people on Roatan rarely need to worry about is hurricanes. The island is not located inside the hurricane belt and it is also surrounded by barrier reefs. There were three different decades when there were no tropical storms or hurricanes near the island at all.

Traveling The Bay Islands Of Honduras: Roatan Island - UNTIE THE LINES II #41
We had a smooth day trip (starting under engine but later beautifully tacking along) over to Roatan, Tom got his work done amd we explored the island a bit.
Time is flying like usual and it is already time for Tom to head back to Guatemala and I have to grove myself back into solo sailing.
Enjoy & ahoy,

Plastic waste floating in the Caribbean
From Caroline Power
- Ocean trash is a problem facing every coast, sea, and ocean. There is no one country at fault. We are all to blame. This particular plastic was filmed off the coast of Honduras. Guatemala and Honduras have very poor waste management in many areas. This results in mass amounts of plastic ending up in rivers and streams. When we have heavy rains, it washes into the ocean. Most of the people that live and vacation here do not see trash so they actually find it hard to believe the photos.
The Roatan Marine Park is our local non-profit organization that runs numerous conservation programs including an anti plastic campaign and environmental education programs

2013 Roatan Honduras Snorkel the coral reef 3D SBS 720P
This video is just a short piece of what we shot in Roatan a few weeks ago. Love it there. Shot with dual Swann Freestyle (gopro like) cameras. The 3D was rendered with Pinnacle Studio 16, my software of choice when working with 3D. If you don't already know you can select the 3D or 2D option and the resolution. In 2D the 720P video is reduced to probably 1/2 that so wathc it in 3D it's great! Click Like so I keep posting videos or comment if you like something! Please excuse the lack of stability, floating on the surface is not the best way to shoot video!
Last Days on the Catamaran & What We Thought (MJ Sailing - EP 100)
Now that we have spent a few weeks sailing and living on a catamaran, what do we think of it vs our monohull?
We can't believe our time on the Island Spirit 380 is coming to an end, so we try to enjoy our last few days in Koh Chang to the fullest. With long lounging breakfast in the open air cockpit, we get ready to start our day on shore.
Renting a scooter so we can cover more ground, we drive up to the Klong Plu Waterfall. It's much taller than the one we saw in Koh Kut, but big boulders and deep pools keep you from taking a nice swim underneath it.
With our set of wheels we also take in a beautiful sunset at White Sand Beach, before walking down the strip of road there for dinner once the sun goes down. Famous for its street food, there are dozens of stalls set up that will offer you almost any kind of Thai food you can think of....and all incredibly cheap!
Then, it's time to return the catamaran to the base. Having spent two weeks aboard a multihull boat, we give a little insight to our thoughts on cruising a catamaran...and if one will ever be in our future.
Much love from Thailand,
Jessica, Matt & Georgie
Enjoy the Best of the Caribbean on West Bay Beach, Roatán
Clear, turquoise water rolls gently onto a white-sand beach. The sea is calm here thanks to the reefs just off shore.
Small boats (water taxis and dive boats, mostly) are anchored here and there, bobbing in the swell. Vacationers float in the water, kids frolic on the shore, and every once in a while you’ll spot a snorkeler’s splashing fin.
But you just relax in one of the chairs shaded by umbrellas or palm trees, and take it all in.

Half Moon Bay Wall & Bear's Den SCUBA Diving - Roatan, Honduras - GoPro HD -December 2013
Half Moon Bay Wall & Bear's Den SCUBA Diving - Roatan, Honduras - GoPro HD
December 23-24, 2013
Half Moon Bay Wall is a relaxed drift dive just outside the Half Moon Bay Cove. The drift day is along an east-west axis along this steep wall with depths upto 90+ft possible (obey your NDL!) Plenty of corals along the wall and atop, watch out for crabs and eels in the cracks and turtles floating around.
Bear's Den is a highly recommended dive site. Sandy channels, coral gardens, a brilliant wall, two swim-throughs and the Bear's Den, a series of three fairly dark caves. No bears live in the cave, but some other marine creatures do. The cave is small and at the end of the dive, so there tends to be a queue as divers wait to go in and came back out the same hole. So try not to be too deep for too long early in your dive, so you can save air for max bottom times and an assured visit through all swim-throughs and the cave.
Cruise Ship Crashes while Coming into Port || ViralHog
Occurred on February 12, 2019 / San Juan, Puerto Rico
Knowing that the Norwegian Epic was having engine trouble, I wanted to watch it dock from on board the ship I was sailing on. Once it looked like the turn the ship was making would have it strike the mooring platform I decided to start recording. This video was taken while docked in San Juan, PR aboard the Celebrity Edge on February 12, 2019

The Prop that gives you an Extra Knot | Sailboat Refit (Sailing Nandji) EP 126
Sail faster by installing a new prop, Yep, thats the plan!
In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we install our NEW Autoprop onto Nandji. We are very excited about this upgrade to our sailboat. In our eyes, this is the second most important upgrade we have made to Nandji behind the new engine. The Autoprop from Bruntons is specifically designed for cruisers at it can give an extra knot of speed under sail! That is a massive difference for us slower boats!
To install the Autoprop onto Nandji, we have to make a few modifications to the sweep area of the prop. As the new Autoprop has a little larger blades than our previous fixed bladed prop, it also is a feathering prop requiring a larger sweep area as the blades rotate 180 degrees giving the vessel the same power going astern as forwards propulsion. When under sail, the self pitching blades pitch to a degree where up to 85% of drag is reduced allowing the boat a much higher speed under sail! Stop it you say, well I agree my friend...
If you want to know more about the Autoprop, follow the link below...
With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit!
We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! Indian Ocean here we come!!

A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans
A sea of plastic: Shocking images show how bottles, bags and rubbish are choking our oceans
In one photograph taken near Roatan, an island off the coast of Honduras, a diver grimaces as he prepares to enter the water almost completely covered by waste. Another, taken from below the waterline, shows plastic bottles, bags and other rubbish on the surface blocking out sunlight. It is thought the rubbish was washed into the sea from nearby Guatemala, carried on rivers swollen by the recent rainy season flowing through towns and villages.

INSANE Sailing in the San Blas Islands ~ Vlog #40
Win a week onboard Finding Avalon and gain access to bonus content and live Q&As! ~
First of all, we would like to acknowledge the recent pirate attack in the San Blas Islands last week and the tragic loss of a Kiwi man's life. We are in absolute shock that such a place of peace and beauty could be the site for horrific things like this. Sending all our love to the victim's family and the gorgeous indigenous inhabitants of the San Blas Islands. If you would like to help the wife and children of the victim, Alan Culverwell through this time of need, donations can be made here:
We hope in watching this video, you'll still be able to enjoy the beauty of this place. Piracy is a terrifying reality, and we hope our fellow cruisers out there are being extremely careful yet keeping spirits high and enjoying the places where your anchor drops to the very fullest.
Thanks for watching guys. If you liked it, please give us a thumbs up and leave a lovely comment. We post every Sunday! So if you’d like to see us every week, why not subscribe.
Oceans of love,
