Your body language may shape who you are | Amy Cuddy
Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy argues that power posing -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can boost feelings of confidence, and might have an impact on our chances for success. (Note: Some of the findings presented in this talk have been referenced in an ongoing debate among social scientists about robustness and reproducibility. Read Amy Cuddy's response here:

Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 12
Episode - 12
Filmed on Location at - Opotiki, in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
Fiona works from her home near Opotiki, in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, where she lives with her two daughters, her two sons having recently left home.
Fiona’s work allows her to reflect and pay honor to the things that are of importance to her.
Fiona is fortunate to be well represented throughout New Zealand, and has been included in group exhibitions in France, Los Angeles and Japan.
The recent tartan theme has come about as her work has developed more structure. In her previous work the lines and angles have reflected Taaniko and Tukutuku panel designs.
The tartan series celebrates Fiona’s Scottish heritage. It was inspired by a visit from a cousin who shared his knowledge of the Kerr family history. The solid Tartan works conjure feelings of nostalgia, history and heritage; works 9-12 have a more contemporary feel for Fiona.
These pieces retain the meditative qualities of her Mandala works; though where the Mandala draws your focus inward, centering you, the tartan encourages you to broaden and expand your thoughts.
There are Spiritual teachings which some say we vibrate grids, which the ‘Law of Attraction’ fills in as our life experience; the more consciously one vibrates these grids, the better one’s life will be. The grid like pattern of the tartan is a nod to Fiona’s beliefs in these teachings.
The vast displays of feathers are also indicative of Kahu Huruhuru – traditional Maori feather cloaks. These are highly treasured as displays of mana – honor and prestige; as are Tartans.

Reason AMA: Impeachment, Cocktails, Debt, New Zealand, Justin Amash, Prog Rock, Libraries, and More
You asked Reason editors about impeachment, book recommendations, cocktail ingredients, public libraries, New Zealand, the debt crisis, and more. Watch us try to answer without killing each other, and then please donate to our annual Webathon!
Donate Here:
We have many fun traditions that have arisen during the decade-plus of running annual Reason webathons, none funner than having our editorial brass respond directly to the brain-tickling queries, insults, and philosophical problems posed by you, our very favorite audience. How many other magazines of opinion allow not only for an open comments section (legal exposures notwithstanding), but annual AMAs? Not bloody many, I'd wager.
Won't you please encourage such responsiveness by donating to Reason right the hell now?
Well, this year we asked for questions as part of our weekly Reason Roundtable podcast, featuring Nick Gillespie, Peter Suderman, Katherine Mangu-Ward, and Matt Welch, and man, did you people deliver. In a special bonus Webathon dispatch that tests the outer limits of the Non-Agression Principle by taping in the same room, your humble Roundtableists give their own reasons for the giving season, then tackle all the important, listener-generated questions. Such as:
Which editor can fire the others? (16:03) How many black leather jackets does Nick own? (17:43) What's the best outcome for impeachment? (21:12) What are recommended books (30:05), recommended political strategies for Rep. Justin Amash (I–Mich.) (49:52), and recommended cocktail ingredients from Suderman? (1:06:00) Why does Katherine hate ownership (42:55), why does Nick hate libraries (45:50), why does Reason hate people who talk to Richard Spencer? (1:14:02) When are we going to get our fancy debt crisis (1:09:06) and why don't people talk more about New Zealand? (59:20) What is the most libertarian musical genre? (1:17:53) Which fictional character would make the best president? (57:47) And most importantly, who is the best baseball player who does not belong in the Hall of Fame? (56:16)
Those are just some of the questions you can listen to us try to answer below, from around the ping pong table of Reason's D.C. office. Enjoy! Then remember to subscribe to Reason podcasts ( , and of course…donate to Reason right the hell now.

Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 08
Episode - 05
Filmed on Location at - Melbourne, VIC, Australia
Born in Melbourne in 1969, Jenny began painting and drawing at an early age. When her family moved from Melbourne to North East Victoria in 1981 she developed a passion for the high country and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
Completing school in 1987, Jenny then studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Canberra Institute of the Arts, Australian National University. In 1992 she was accepted into Bachelor of Arts Honours-Fine Art at the Latrobe University College of Northern Victoria.
Jenny traveled and worked extensively overseas before being wed in 1997. In 2002 she moved with her young family to the coast town of Jan Juc, Victoria. Jenny is now a full time artist, mother and wife, though not always in that order.
Her love and passion for the ocean and mountains have been the inspiration for many of Jenny’s works. In her finely detailed pen and ink drawings with collage material, the viewer can put together all the elements like a jigsaw puzzle to learn the story behind each picture. Some of her works have even been made into jigsaw puzzles for children.
Jenny loves blending realism with surrealism, and each world she creates is ‘collected’, telling a story of a nearly mythical landscape and history. It is her hope that each piece will inspire the viewer to contemplate his or her own relationship with their environment.
By including a dose of fantasy in some of her works, she invites the viewer to examine more closely, to establish where the line is drawn between fantasy and fact. Jenny’s works are the result of many hours spent gathering collage and reference material and her love and passion for the outdoors whether it be ocean and beach or mountains and bush, makes this an enjoyable task.
Recently Jenny has been spending more time doing illustrations for children… whether for a bedroom or playroom. Her works are vibrant, detailed, colourful and whimsical. The inspiration for many of these works has come from seeing the world through the eyes of her young daughter.

Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
Season - 09
Episode - 06
Filmed on Location at - Murwillumbah, NSW Australia
Born Ernest Ashley Dingo on 31 July 1956, at Bullardoo Station, Ernie was the second child of nine, with three brothers and five sisters. He grew up in Mullewa, Western Australia with his family, and originates from the Yamatji people of the Murchison region. He went to Prospect Primary and then Geraldton High School.
Ernie came to acting after moving to Perth and meeting Richard Walley. With a distinguished career as an actor and presenter in film and television, Ernie also promoted the Generation One ‘Hand Across Australia’, which was a promotion for Indigenous equality. In collaboration with Richard Walley, he also created the controversial ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony in Perth in 1976, after dancers from the Pacific Islands would not perform without one.
Ernie’s film career began in the early 1980s and he appeared regularly on screen through the 1990s. He appeared in Bruce Beresford’s 1987 drama ‘The Fringe Dwellers’ and worked on the 1988 docu-drama biopic ‘Tudawali’. He had a major supporting role in the international comedy blockbuster ‘Crocodile Dundee II’ in 1988. He appeared as himself in the 1989 comedy ‘Capuccino’ and had a major role in the 1991 Wim Wenders film ‘Until the End of the World’. In 1993 he starred in ‘Blackfellas’ and he had a lead role in 1996’s ‘Dead Heart’. In 1998 he starred in ‘Somewhere in the Darkness’. In 2010 he returned to the silver screen with a role in the Aboriginal musical ‘Bran Nue Dae’ along with Jessica Mauboy and Geoffrey Rush.
Ernie has hosted the television program The Great Outdoors since 1993, also appearing in many Australian television series such as Blue Heelers, The Flying Doctors, Heartbreak High and Rafferty’s Rules. He appeared in the TV mini-series’ The Cowra Breakout (1984), A Waltz Through the Hills (1987), (for which he won an AFI Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama) and Kings in Grass Castles (1997), as well as co-starring with Cate Blanchett in the Australian television drama series Heartland.
In 1990, Ernie was made a Member of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his service to the performing arts.
Despite his extensive film and television career, Ernie’s other passion lies in art, being able to express himself and his journeys in life through creative means. Through painting, Ernie expresses his love for his Aboriginal culture, the memories of his people and country. Each Horizon painting tells a story of places unknown and journeys to be taken.

Channel Islands: Invasive Species
Imagine being a fragile seedling pushing through the earth and reaching for the sun — but constantly being smothered by strange grasses growing faster and taller than you are. That is the plight of the Island Phacelia (Phacelia insularis var. insularis), a tiny flower found only on Santa Rosa and San Miguel Islands, part of the remote and hauntingly gorgeous Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Los Angeles. USGS scientists are monitoring the precarious survival of this highly endangered plant species, and helping the National Park Service understand how to reverse the spread and impact of invasive grasses choking this island ecosystem.

Ken Done’s first solo exhibition was held in Sydney in 1980. Since then, he has held over 50 one-man shows, including major exhibitions in Australia, Europe, Japan and the USA. His work has been described as the most original style to come out of Australia, and his paintings are in collections throughout the world.
Born June 29, 1940, in Sydney, Ken Done left school at 14 to enter the National Art School in East Sydney. After 5 years study, he commenced a highly successful career as an art director and designer in New York, London and Sydney. At the age of forty, he made the decision to leave the industry and devote himself to painting full time. Since then his works have been shown in the Archibald, Sulman, Wynne, Blake, and Dobell Prizes.
Working predominantly in oils and acrylic, Ken Done takes inspirations from diverse sources - the ebullience of the sea and sky, the transcendent emotions of a quiet garden, aboriginal art, japanese poetry, the urban shout of Sydney, where he makes his home - but the sensibility that underlies his work is uniquely his own.
This original art has become the creative source of a unique and now famous Australian brand. It began with a small run of t-shirts printed with a beautifully simple, bold drawing of Sydney Harbour. This original image caught the attention of Sydney siders and visitors alike and has gone on to become an icon of Sydney, and an icon of Ken Done.
Ken Done’s work is now widely recognised as holding a unique position in Australia’s cultural heritage. In 1992, he received the Order of Australia (A.M.), for services to Art, Design and Tourism. In many parts of the world, Ken Done has come to symbolise Australia and Australians: creative, optimistic and bold.
