The Royal Plaza is located next to the Ramblas, Barcelona's Old Town. He called because he wanted to dedicate Ferdinand VII, who had been king during the time of construction, and to praise the monarchy. In the beginning, before being built, had thought to call it Place of Spanish heroes, but after a few years with different options construction and due absolutism established by Ferdinand VII, was ordered to remove all names streets and places that are related to liberalism. The ideas of converting the former convent of Santa Madrona Capuchin, began to emerge in 1822 and after the burning of convents (1835), began dismantling it to convert the space into a large theater and galleries in the city. He convened a contest of projects which were presented to them two ways: Josep Oriol Mestres and Francesc Daniel Molina Casamajó. While the resolution is decided, the Council gave the space for its operation, and between 1842 and 1848 ran a theater, the New Theatre. The inauguration of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in 1847, he dismissed the idea of building a theater and decided to make place in 1848. It was designed and built by the architect and urban planner Francesc Daniel Molina Casamajó. One of the most distinguished places in Barcelona. It is down Las Ramblas on the left is the only arcaded square of the city, which gives character and makes it exceptional. It borders the Boulevard of the Capuchins, Ferran street, Calle Colon and Escudellers street. It also meets the first passage that was covered in Barcelona, Bacardi, not very well preserved. The specific space occupied by the current Royal Plaza was bought by the Capuchin convent of Mount Calvary in 1717 to build a new convent (1718). The Capuchin convent took some sections of the medieval wall and included all the space that today corresponds to the streets of Glass, Escudellers, Las Ramblas and Portal de la Boqueria. The convent church was located on Las Ramblas, the height of the current entry in Ferran street while in the south stood the garden center (Plaza Real). Importantly also factory habits wool next to Calle Glass that religious settled. In 1822, in the Triennial Liberal meant a change in the ownership of the land passed to the council, which could not overthrow the convent until 1835 due to the occurrence of the so-called Decade absolutist. Also in 1835 there was the destruction of the convent of St. Joseph, then located in the current Boqueria market. The intention was to build on its site a place like Plaza Real, and was originally designed and built to reach the place of work, which are an example porches preserved until today. Later, inside the structure was built in the San Jose market structure that has endured without much alteration to the present day. Regarding the Plaça Reial, it should be noted that it was constructed between 1850 and 1859 under a very clear demonstration of Napoleonic planning, along with the project completed in 1848 by architect Francis Casamajó Daniel Molina, winner of municipal by the new square. And it is precisely in the place where today there is the place where stood the Capuchin monastery mentioned above. Since the fifties of the twentieth century, Adolf Florensa made a program of interventions is characterized by concentration and false restoration of buildings of historical and artistic. The neighborhood became a theme park where buildings rebuilt elsewhere and foreign elements were added to give an aesthetic cohesion to the whole, these actions were criticized by renowned historians like Ferran Soldevila Antoni Rovira i Virgili Augustine Duran Sanpere. Regarding the internal morphology, during the eighteenth century var changed drastically due to the high density suffered: subdivide large mansions on uneven floors and lack of services; took advantage entire plot, removing orchards that persisted, creating rooms badly lit and ventilated worst demolished the old house to build a new one with an increase in the height of excessiveness. The nineteenth century is, however, the major changes in the structure and morphology of the district, due to several phenomena: the transformation of the parish cemetery in public places (Pi, St. Just, St. James, St. Michael, St. Sever, Mercy, etc.); emptying of large pieces, in most cases to arise from the burning of convents and seizure, as well as the demolition of paper laus, with the consequent change of use (places: Royal Medina, etc.) employment institutions (Government, Military, Military captain, largely from the City Council, etc.); the demolition of the walls, which opens the neighborhood and provide non- go plots and plots; the opening of the shaft streets Ferran- Jaume I and Via Laietana. The square is now a meeting point for a very heterogeneous, because it is a place to sit and have a drink at the outdoor terraces under the arcades that characterize.

Barceloneta Beach in Barcelona

Barcelona lies on the Mediterranean Sea, on the Costa del Maresme, in the north of the Costa Brava and in the south of the Costa del Garraf, and an important port. The city, which for a long time by the port, roads and railways of the Mediterranean was closed regained a sea front and private beaches. Along the coast one can find sandy beaches that have been constructed in the run up to the Olympics. Sant Martí is the area that lies on the sea and the beach, and runs from the center to the north.
The population of Barcelona has the reputation to be sportive. The mild climate, is not too harsh winters and the fact that Barcelona by the sea, makes the boulevards along the beaches and parks are often crowded with joggers, skaters and cyclists. Every year, held a Formula 1 race in April / May at the circuit of Montmeló, a village within the metropolis Barcelona.
One of the most unique attractions in Barcelona is the beach. Although constructed entirely artificial, but literally next to the center, on the Mediterranean Sea. At the beginning of the 90s, during the big city transformation for the Olympics, the entire coast of Barcelona was redesigned and constructed almost again. Since then, there is a beach of more than four kilometers long, which is equipped with showers, lifeguards, bars and restaurants. According to figures from the municipality are, volleyball and swimming are more than 7 million people annually.
The beach is divided into seven beach areas, from south to north: Sant Sebastià, La Barceloneta, Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and recently became available Levante. This urban beach has two nudist beaches. Both Sant Sebastia (tolerated) as at Nova Mar Bella (official) can, as well as on the promenade, plenty without clothes and healthy swim.
There are a few clubs at the beach. Chic bars and trendy nightclubs are mainly found at the top of the Diagonal Avenue. Barceloneta is a seaside neighborhood of Barcelona, built in 1753 and designed by engineer Juan Martin Cermeño, under the orders of Captain General of Barcelona, the Marquis de la Mina.
It borders on the beaches and the sea, with the Moll d'Espanya of the Port Vell, with the Bank (Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera), and the Olympic Port. In Barceloneta are two of the most popular beaches in the city, the beach of Barceloneta and San Sebastian beach. In 1715, a royal decree 321 solar adjudged the beach to the inhabitants of the houses that had been demolished to build the fort of the Citadel, built after Barcelona had been conquered by Philip V in 1714.
There is the Barcelona Aquarium. It also houses the most famous surf spot of Barcelona on its sandy beach. Barceloneta is famous for its sandy beach (the beach is also mentioned in Book 2 of Don Quixote) and the many restaurants and nightclubs along the boulevard. In recent years the quality of the sand on the beach is a source of continuing controversy. In February 2008 is the WHO started an investigation to find out whether the sand meets WHO safety standards.
The district has a triangular shape and limits of the neighborhood beaches and the sea, with Spain's Dock Port Vell and the Ribera district. The 1992 Summer Olympics brought many changes for Barceloneta. The houses and streets have been renovated. The chiringuitos were demolished to make room for the new beach promenade.
One of the attractions that Barcelona has built in recent years are its beaches. Thanks to the regeneration of the coast held in 1992, during the Olympic Games, Barcelona now has nine beaches and a bathing area they occupy more than 4.2 linear kilometers of coastline. The beaches are full downtown, are connected to the center and are located just minutes from anywhere in the city.
The beaches are subjected to cleaning every day throughout the year. Citizens and visitors can enjoy the beaches as they are equipped to play tennis, beach volleyball and other sports. The ten beaches are, from south to north, the beach of San Sebastian, San Miguel, Barceloneta, Somorrostro, New Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella, Levante and bathrooms Forum. On the beach of Mar Bella there is a space reserved for gays.

A Walk Around El Born Neighborhood Of Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona city is bursting with attractions, life and colour, captivating the millions of tourists that visit the city every year. However, there is a neighbourhood just off the beaten tourist track, which is a popular locals hang-out and also appeals to those visitors who are ‘in-the-know’. El Born is a fashionable, yet intimate neighbourhood, where the latest trends are interlaced with 16-17th century architecture.
In recent years, the area immediately surrounding the market has been referred to as el Born or the Castilian variant el Borne. A heavily gentrified area considered to be south of Carrer de la Princesa, it is full of restaurants, bar, and some small shops with many expatriates both living and socializing there. Despite this colloquial name given to the area (which is often applied to the entire district), it is still officially called la Ribera or Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera.

We have big time fun in this vlog. Barcelona holds a special place in our hearts, so we were looking to do something really unique. Twenty years ago we visited La Sagrada Familia, and we wanted to visit again on this trip. We were curious about how the construction had progressed, and how much, if any, the city has changed. We didn't want to spend our time waiting in lines for tickets, or jostling around with crowds. After some research we found a tour that would give us a good look at Barcelona, and visit La Sagrada Familia (along with two other Gaudi projects). We booked a Segway Tour though BCN. The tour started at Arc de Triomf, and stopped at Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and #LaSagradaFamília. It was super fun, and a great family adventure. The Segways were unbelievable easy to ride. We had no trouble learning to control the Segways. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. If you are considering a visit to Barcelona, and this is something that interests you, don't hesitate. It was an incredible way to see the city and the works of Gaudi.
There’s MUCH more to come on this journey as we continue our European cruise to Marseille (France) and Genoa (Italy) so STAY TUNED! If you missed day 1 in Rome, day 2 in Palermo, or day 3 in Malta be sure to check those videos out too.
