MUSSOORIE :
Just 35 kilometers from Dehradun, lies a hill station that yearly grows in popularity. Mussoorie, also known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’, is a city that attracts both Indians and foreigners, newcomers and mountain veterans all year-round. It lies in the foothills of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal mountain ranges and offers tourist attractions of all kinds.
1.Kempty Falls:
Kempty Falls is said to be one of the most prominent waterfalls in Uttarakhand. The falls are encircled by high mountain cliff.
2.Lal Tibba:
In the local language, Lal Tibba means the Red Hill. This is said to be the oldest and the most populated place in Mussoorie.
3.Happy Valley:
Happy Valley is exceptionally popular for housing the Municipal Garden, IAS Academy and the Tibetan temples. It is very popular for the estates, temples and the gardens.
4.Camel's Back Road:
Camel's Back Road is one of the most visit locations in Mussoorie. A peaceful and calm walk in the lap of nature will assure absolute peace and calmness.
5.Gun Hill:
Gun Hill is one of the most prominent tourist attractions for the tourists who visit Mussoorie. It is the second highest peak in Mussoorie.
6.Mussoorie Lake:
Mussoorie Lake is the freshly developed tourist spot developed by the City Board. It is an ideal destination or boating or a day out for picnic.
7.Christ Church:
Situated on little hill-lock slightly above the Kasmanda Palace, Mussoorie Christ Church boasts of being the very first Catholic church in all of the Himalayan region. Built in 1836, the exquisite church is an exemplary example of Gothic architecture which evolved from Romanesque architecture.
8.George Everest's House:
George Everest's House is set at the Mall Road and has long been the home to the much popular Welsh surveyor and geographer, Sir George Everest. The geographer just couldn’t stay untouched by the scenic beauty of the Mussoorie and hence planned to live here for thirty years.
9.Jawalaji Temple:
Located at an divine altitude atop Benog Hills, the Jwala Devi Temple offers lovely view of the Doon Valley and the milky white Yamuna.
10.The Mall road:
The Mall road is the central hub of the Mussoorie and is definitely a must visit on your trip to the city. It has a bunch of places, couple of things and plenty of activities to do when on a vacation to the Mall Road.

Mussoorie (Garhwali/Hindi: मसूरी, Masūrī) is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located about 35 km from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km north from the national capital of New Delhi. This hill station, situated in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges, is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of 'greater Mussoorie', as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.
Things to do in Mussoorie
Being at an average altitude of 1,880 metres (6,170 ft), Mussoorie, with its green hills and varied flora and fauna, is a fascinating hill resort. Commanding snow ranges to the north-east, and glittering views of the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges in the south, the town was once said to present a 'fairyland' atmosphere to tourists.
The highest point is Lal Tibba with a height of over 2,290 metres (7,510 ft).

Mussoorie Tourism At A Glance
Situated at an altitude of 6000 ft. , Mussoorie is a popular hill station famous for its colonial heritage and its religious sites.
Initially an escape for the British from the unforgiving heat in the plains, Mussoorie has only grown into a popular hill-station to provide you an escape into the wave of activity surrounding the scenic views and lush green flora. The Mall is the centre point of Mussoorie with its two ends- Library and Picture Palace spread some distance away. In Mussoorie, you will find both nature at work with beautiful waterfalls and sceneries as well as architectural marvel of colonial structures.
Kempty Falls
Located on the way between Dehradun-Mussoorie roads, Kempty Falls is a beautiful location to take a dip in the water falling from an altitude of 40 feet. It is a perfect place to take a short swim or fish.
Kempty Falls, one of the most renowned waterfalls in Uttarakhand, offers a mesmerizing panoramic view as the water falls from a great height. The pond formed at the bottom of the falls make an excellent spot for swimming, fishing, and bathing. A flight of stairs leads to the pond where one can soak in the fun with friends and family. Quite famous among the tourists as a picnic spot, this perennial waterfall is crowded almost throughout the year.
The Mall
Located in the heart of Mussoorie, the Mall is a colonial relic with benches and lampposts filled with modern shops, video game parlours and skating rinks.
You can often find the author Ruskin Bond browsing the Cambridge Bookstore. There would be a lot of local vendors around including photographers who can click awesome photographs for you. Do try out a photograph in local traditional attire here.
Gun Hill
The Gun Hill is the second highest peak in Mussoorie after the Lal Tibba. Nestled 400 ft above The Mall, the Hill can be reached via cable car ropeway. The ropeway ride gives an enthralling experience to its passenger. The Peak offers stunning views of the snow-capped mountains. One gets to witness a top view of Mussoorie and Doon Valley.
It has a water reservoir built which supplies water to the hill area. Even the smallest of the things over here have a touch of colonisation which take place in Pre-independent India. It is considered as the most picturesque locations in Mussoorie, provided the clear sky. Every picture shot here appears to be perfect
Lal Tibba
Untouched by commercialization, Lal Tibba is located on the highest hill of Mussoorie. It is famous for the travelers who wish to encounter the large view of mountain trails. Kedarnath, Baderpunch, Badrinath and many other beautiful places can be spotted via telescope from Lal Tibba.
It is located in the Landour Area on the Depot Hill. In the form of a small terrace, it gives you great memories with mesmerizing views of Tibet border. The place is relaxing and has remains of British Architecture. The clear view it offers is soothing to eyes. It brings together the blue sky and lush green terrains in front of our eyes.
Cloud's End
6 km west off the Library, the Cloud's end marks the end of Mussoorie. It is covered by thick jungles and tracks 2 km up to the Benog Wildlife Sanctuary. It offers a lovely walking track. This place offers a great view of Aglar River Valley.
Company Garden
Located at 3 km from The Mall, Company Garden is a well maintained picnic spot with a mini lake, a flower garden and an amusement park in it. Also known as Municipal Garden, it is one of the best spots for picnic.
Camel's Back Road
Shaped like a camel's hump, the 4 km stretch is popular trekking spot also offering horse-rides.
Jwala Devi Temple
Located at an divine altitude atop Benog Hills, the Jwala Devi Temple offers lovely view of the Doon Valley and the milky white Yamuna.

Natural Scenerio of Mussoorie
1. HAPPY VALLEY
Happy Valley is near the Indian Administrative Services Academy - Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Nestled in this valley is a Tibetan Monastery[1] with a clear view of Hathipaon. Happy Valley is located west of Mussoorie’s Dalai Hill from where the mountain ranges of Jaunpur and Nag-Tibba are visible. In October 18, 1929 Mahatma Gandhi addressed the European municipal councillors at Mussoorie. At that time he stayed at Birla House in Happy Valley.
2. TIBETAN BUDDHIST TEMPLE
At a distance of 2.5 km from Library Bus Stand, Happy Valley is a large Tibetan settlement in Mussoorie. It is also famous for housing IAS Academy, Tibetan temples and the Municipal Gardens. Happy Valley starts from the west side of Library Point and leads to the Cloud's End.
Happy Valley, also called as mini-Tibet is home to about 5000 Tibetan refugees. It is one of the top sightseeing place in Mussoorie. In 1959, when the 14th Dalai Lama took refuge in Mussoorie, many Tibetans came here and since then this valley has been serving as their home. Later the Tibetan government-in-exile moved to Dharamashala in Himachal Pradesh but left behind a strong community of Tibetans who have today become an integral part of the culture of Mussoorie.
The Buddhist Temple and Tibetan Homes Foundation continue the legacy if beautiful Tibetan culture in Mussoorie. In the year 1960, the Indian government opened up Central School for Tibetans for Tibetan children in Happy Valley which still remains as a reputed school. Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan, who is also known as the father of Hindi travel literature, lived with his family for some years in the present Central School's dispensary building.
The town is situated in lush green surroundings. Shedup Choephelling Temple is situated on the highest point of the valley atop a cliff. It was the 1st Tibetan shrine to be built in India and was consecrated by Dalai Lama. It is a major tourist attraction in Mussoorie and it is an astounding example of Tibetan architecture. This temple houses prayer wheels and innumerous idols of Lord Buddha. The meditation hall of the temple is carved with beautiful paintings on the walls, panels and on the ceiling. The temple provides a great panoramic view of the Benog Hill circuit.
3. JWALA DEVI TEMPLE
Jwala Devi Temple is situated on the top of the Benog Hills, which is located at an altitude of more than 2,100 m. Dotted with thick forests of pine and deodar, the path to the temple begins from Cloud’s End.
The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and has a stone idol in the inner sanctum. Besides devotees, the shrine also attracts nature lovers for its beautiful surroundings and pleasant atmosphere. Tourists can have a glimpse of Shivalik range on one side and the lush green Yamuna Valley on the other.

1. Tibetan Buddhist Temple
Set up by the Tibetan population in Mussoorie, the Tibetan Buddhist temple is also known as Shedup Choepelling temple and is located on the Happy Valley road close to the IAS Academy. The temple can be visited between 7 am to 5 pm.
Dalai Lama took refuge in Mussoorie after he fled Tibet and was granted land in Dharamshala by the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Tibetan Buddhist temple has a divine atmosphere, and those seeking solace and peace of mind must make it a point to visit here. To add to the serenity are the clay lamps in the lamp house and the prayer flags.
2. Kempty Falls
Gigantic Fall with somersault of the streams before hitting the bottom, Kempty Falls is the most popular and one of the oldest tourist spot near Mussoorie.
3. Mussoorie Lake
Famous among family and couples for a perfect picnic spot near Mussoorie, a newly developed Mussoorie Lake is a developed tourist spot.
4. Mussoorie Library
Mussoorie Library is the oldest literary landmark in this hill station, founded only seventeen years after the town itself. For the past 172 years the library has maintained its presence at the head of the Mall Road, overlooking the crossing at Gandhi Chowk. A private institution governed by a society of members, the library is not open to the public. These photographs provide a rare glimpse of the interior, with its reading rooms and bookcases full of musty volumes from an earlier era.
5. Mussoorie Mall Road
Most famous promenade in Queen of the Hills, Mussoorie is The Mall. At an height of above 2000 mtrs, The Mall is major attraction in Mussoorie
6. Gun Hill
A historical and second highest peak of Mussoorie, Gun Hill is favourite place for viewing picturesque Himalayan range and Doon Valley.
7. Jwala Devi Temple
Famously known as 'Jwala Ji Temple', Jwala Devi Temple is center of faith and devotion for devotees of Goddess Durga. Located at the top of Binog hill.
