Thai police have changed tack, removing fortified barriers blocking anti-government protesters from entering the prime minister's office. At least three people have died and 230 were injured in a week of protests aimed at ousting Thailand's government.
Early on Tuesday police cleared the barbed wire barriers protecting Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's office from the onslaught of anti-government protesters. Footage from Thai television showed the protesters milling around outside the Government House.
Prime Minister Yingluck was moved to a secret location on Sunday after activists stormed the police sports club where she had been staying.
The Thai police's change of strategy seeks to defuse rising tensions following a week of protests. City Police Chief Kamronvit Thoopkrachang told Reuters that riot officers have been ordered to stand down.
In every area where there has been confrontation, we have now ordered all police to withdraw. It is government policy to avoid confrontation, Kamronvit told Reuters. Today, we won't use tear gas, no confrontation, we will let them in if they want.
Police clashed with protests attempting to break through the barricades to Government House on Monday. Officers used tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets to repel the activists, who threw rocks at police.
The worst violence of the week came on Saturday evening when a group of protesters opened fire at a pro-government rally, killing at least four people and injuring dozens more. Around 70,000 supporters of PM Yingluck had gathered in the Ramkamhaeng area of Bangkok.
Yingluck's government has refused calls by the protest movement for snap elections and has dismissed their demands as unconstitutional.
Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban -- a former politician for the opposition Democrat Party -- has demanded that Yingluck resign to make way for the formation of a people's council made up of good people. Thaugsuban called for a nationwide strike on Monday
He has accused Prime Minister Yingluck of being a puppet for her billionaire older brother Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksim was ousted from government by a military coup in 2006 and subsequently fled the country after being found guilty of corruption. He now lives in exile in Dubai, but remains an important part of the current government.
Thai authorities announced over the weekend that Suthep was wanted for the charge of insurrection which shall be punished with death or life imprisonment. An arrest warrant had already been issued for Suthep last week on charges of orchestrating the occupation of government ministries.

Join my Buddhist Pilgrimage Series when we visited Beautiful India & Nepal, to visit several Buddhism sites for 12 days.
I will be joining group from Cetiya Panna Sikha from Jakarta Indonesia. The Tour Leader would be Bhikkhu Dhammavuddho.
beside Buddhist Pilgrimage sites, we will also visit and stay at several Buddhism temple along the way, so it would be so much fun and serene.
Some of the place that we visited are:
- Bodh Gaya: (in the current Mahabodhi Temple, Bihar, India), is the most important religious site and place of pilgrimage, the Mahabodhi Temple houses what is believed to be the Bodhi Tree where the Buddha realized enlightenment and Buddha hood.
- Lumbini: birthplace of Gautama Buddha inside Mahadevi Stupa (known as Vesak)(in Nepal)
- Bodh Gaya: where the Buddha attained enlightenment beneath a sacred Bodhi Tree (Mahabodhi Temple Complex) (known as Vesak) (Bihar)
- Sarnath: Gautama Buddha delivered his first teaching. (known as Asadha) (Isipathana,Uttar pradesh, India)
- Kuśinagara: Gautama Buddha died and attained Parinirvana.
(known as Vesak) (Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, India)
- Ramabar Stupa: also called a Mukutbandhan-Chaitya, is the cremation place of Buddha (Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, India)
- Nalanda University: Very Large Buddhist University Complex that once is the center of Buddhism learning. (Bihar / Patna)
- Veluvana Arama Temple: the meetup place between Buddha and 1250 Ehi Bhikkhu Arahat, that is (known as Magha Puja). (Rajgir)
- Gijjhakuta / Vulture peak / Holy Eagle Peak: Place where Buddha teach the Heart Sutra, the Lotus Sutra and the Śūraṅgama Samādhi Sūtra as well as many prajnaparamita sutras. (Rajgir)
- Sujata House: Sujata is the last people that donate food to Bodhisattva before he reach enlightenment (Bihar)
- Gangga / Ganges River: The Ganges is one of the most sacred rivers to Hindus, very beautiful at night (Varanasi).
- Dhamek / Dhamekh Stupa: Place where the Buddha gave the first sermon to his first five brahmin disciples revealing his Eightfold Path leading to nirvana, (known as Asadha)

- Jetavana Arama: Jetavana was the place where the Buddha gave the majority of his teachings and discourses, having passed at Jetavana nineteen out of 45 vassas, more than in any other monaster. (Savathi / Uttar Pradesh)

Not far from Gujranwala we continued to Kot Yousaf, a small community village, still in Punjab, Pakistan. We were invited by the Bagdi family to enjoy a home cooked local (desi) breakfast - I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be an amazing breakfast where the entire community came together.
But first:
You’ve already heard me saying “desi ghee” many times in previous videos in Pakistan. But desi is commonly used, even for “desi food.” But what does it mean? Here’s the definition:
Desi -
1. local; indigenous
2. unadulterated or pure
When you say desi ghee, it means clarified butter that is locally sourced, and it’s one of the most important ingredients in Punjabi food in Pakistan. It’s used in so many dishes, and it usually comes from buffaloes.
It was an amazing opportunity and experience to watch the community in the village an impressive Punjabi food breakfast. The main dishes we had were a variety of different parathas, chickpeas, and saag - a local wild spinach simmered down, and one of my personal favorite dishes in Pakistan. It was awesome to watch them make the food before we ate, and a huge thank you to all the amazing people who prepared it.
Tent pegging - After breakfast we had the special opportunity to watch tent pegging, a sport where one rides a horse, and spears a peg in the ground while racing by. It’s more than a sport, it’s an art, and it’s been a part of Pakistani culture since ancient times.
Thank you to everyone who hosted me and gave me so much hospitality and generosity. It was an amazing day in Pakistan!

The Vietnam War: Reasons for Failure - Why the U.S. Lost
In the post-war era, Americans struggled to absorb the lessons of the military intervention. About the book:
As General Maxwell Taylor, one of the principal architects of the war, noted, First, we didn't know ourselves. We thought that we were going into another Korean War, but this was a different country. Secondly, we didn't know our South Vietnamese allies... And we knew less about North Vietnam. Who was Ho Chi Minh? Nobody really knew. So, until we know the enemy and know our allies and know ourselves, we'd better keep out of this kind of dirty business. It's very dangerous.
Some have suggested that the responsibility for the ultimate failure of this policy [America's withdrawal from Vietnam] lies not with the men who fought, but with those in Congress... Alternatively, the official history of the United States Army noted that tactics have often seemed to exist apart from larger issues, strategies, and objectives. Yet in Vietnam the Army experienced tactical success and strategic failure... The...Vietnam War...legacy may be the lesson that unique historical, political, cultural, and social factors always impinge on the military...Success rests not only on military progress but on correctly analyzing the nature of the particular conflict, understanding the enemy's strategy, and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of allies. A new humility and a new sophistication may form the best parts of a complex heritage left to the Army by the long, bitter war in Vietnam.
U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrote in a secret memo to President Gerald Ford that in terms of military tactics, we cannot help draw the conclusion that our armed forces are not suited to this kind of war. Even the Special Forces who had been designed for it could not prevail. Even Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara concluded that the achievement of a military victory by U.S. forces in Vietnam was indeed a dangerous illusion.
Doubts surfaced as to the effectiveness of large-scale, sustained bombing. As Army Chief of Staff Harold Keith Johnson noted, if anything came out of Vietnam, it was that air power couldn't do the job. Even General William Westmoreland admitted that the bombing had been ineffective. As he remarked, I still doubt that the North Vietnamese would have relented.
The inability to bomb Hanoi to the bargaining table also illustrated another U.S. miscalculation. The North's leadership was composed of hardened communists who had been fighting for independence for thirty years. They had defeated the French, and their tenacity as both nationalists and communists was formidable. Ho Chi Minh is quoted as saying, You can kill ten of my men for every one I kill of yours...But even at these odds you will lose and I will win.
The Vietnam War called into question the U.S. Army doctrine. Marine Corps General Victor H. Krulak heavily criticised Westmoreland's attrition strategy, calling it wasteful of American lives... with small likelihood of a successful outcome. In addition, doubts surfaced about the ability of the military to train foreign forces.
Between 1965 and 1975, the United States spent $111 billion on the war ($686 billion in FY2008 dollars). This resulted in a large federal budget deficit.
More than 3 million Americans served in the Vietnam War, some 1.5 million of whom actually saw combat in Vietnam. James E. Westheider wrote that At the height of American involvement in 1968, for example, there were 543,000 American military personnel in Vietnam, but only 80,000 were considered combat troops. Conscription in the United States had been controlled by the President since World War II, but ended in 1973.
By war's end, 58,220 American soldiers had been killed, more than 150,000 had been wounded, and at least 21,000 had been permanently disabled. According to Dale Kueter, Sixty-one percent of those killed were age 21 or younger. Of those killed in combat, 86.3 percent were white, 12.5 percent were black and the remainder from other races. The youngest American KIA in the war was PFC Dan Bullock, who had falsified his birth certificate and enlisted in the US Marines at age 14 and who was killed in combat at age 15. Approximately 830,000 Vietnam veterans suffered symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. An estimated 125,000 Americans fled to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft, and approximately 50,000 American servicemen deserted. In 1977, United States President Jimmy Carter granted a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all Vietnam-era draft dodgers. The Vietnam War POW/MIA issue, concerning the fate of U.S. service personnel listed as missing in action, persisted for many years after the war's conclusion.
