Korean COOKING CLASS in Seoul - Making Sundubu Jjigae & Haemul Pajeon | Seoul, South Korea
On the morning of my first full day in Seoul, my boy Sam and I started off at the K-Style Hub before heading over to a Korean cooking class! I was super excited to learn how to make some delicious Korean food!
In the K-Style Hub building, we learned about K-Style culture. There was an interactive map that showed locations all around South Korea, including a beautiful island off the coast. We also saw maps of regional tourism promotional zones. Then, we saw the K-Star Zone, which is all about K-Pop and the culture.
I tried a VR experience that put me on top of a building! There were cut-outs of different K-Pop stars and a star photo booth that puts you in a photo with PSY!
From there, we headed to the third level, which is all about Korean food. They show you lots of ingredients that are used in Korean cuisine and dishes. Part of Korean cuisine is putting cabbage in clay pots and letting it ferment. We saw an exhibit that showed the spices, sauces, and salts used. I couldn’t wait to try these foods!
We explored a hall with lit-up panels that show different dishes, including a rice cake, bibimbap, kimchi. There are so many facets to Korean cuisine. It’s much more than barbecue, for sure!
Then, it was time to get back on the bus and go to our cooking class. We would learn to make Haemul Pajeon, which is a Korean pancake with seafood and green onions, and Sundubu Jjigae, a spicy Korean stew.
First, we washed our hands. We started by watching our instructor, Chef Gia, prepare everything. Our first dish was the Sundubu Jjigae. First I cut the cucumber, onion, and diced the garlic and leek. Then I had to de-shell and de-vein the shrimp.
After a quick wash of the shrimp, I turned on the flame under the sizzle, added some oil, and let it sizzle. I added the vegetables, soy sauce, fish sauce, spices, and cucumber. Then it was time to add the vegetable broth and cook until the vegetables were ready.
The broth was good! It was nice and spicy! Then, we drained the water off of some tofu, or sundubu. You cut it into 3 pieces using your spoon and scoop them into your soup. It will absorb all of the flavors! Then I grabbed the clams and shrimp and placed them on top. You have to make sure the clams are down in the broth so they cook and absorb the flavors. Then it cooks for five more minutes and it’s ready!
Then, Chef Gia showed us how to make the Haemul Pajeon, the savory pancake. You start with all-purpose flour and salt, and create a batter using water. You add some oil to the pan and then pour in the batter. Once the batter is in the pan, you top it with your spring onion, squid, and vegetables. Use the egg as a glue to hold it all together. Flip when the bottom is brown and crispy.
Same tried the Haemul Pajeon first, and then it was my turn! I dipped the piece into an amazing soy, vinegar, and chili sauce. I loved the crunchy spring onion and the seafood aspect, and the egg throughout was mind-blowing! It was savory and not sweet at all. Best pancake of all-time!
Then we moved on to the Sundubu Jjigae, which looked incredible. It’s served with rice. The silken tofu melted in my mouth and was so good. I dipped some rice into the broth, which had nice clam flavor. The clams were nice with the onions and spice! The broth was outstanding! It wasn’t too spicy and so flavorful, but the Haemul Pajeon won it for me!
Sam tried the Sundubu Jjigae next. It’s one of his favorite Korean stews!
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me to my Korean cooking class! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures.

Korean Cooking Class in Seoul, Korea | Learning How to Make My Favorite Korean Food
Join us for a Korean Cooking Class in Seoul, Korea as we learn how to make two of my favorite Korean Food items (Korean Pancakes with seafood and Spicy Korean Soup with Tofu). Our Seoul cooking class learning how to make Korean food was at Ongo Food Communications (we'd recommend them highly):
David's Channel:
Korean savory pancakes known as jeon come in a variety of flavors but the most classic and popular of all is haemul pajeon (해물파전) which features an assortment of seafood and green onions. I'd also recommend trying kimchi jeon (김치전).
Korean spicy tofu stew known as sundubu jjigae (순두부찌개) is my favorite of all of the Korean soups. In fact, as much as I adore it Audrey loves it even more. Whenever we have Korean food abroad she always orders Sundubu Jjigae. Another jjigae to try is doenjang jjigae (된장찌개).
Considering David and I are not terribly skilled in the kitchen I think we did okay making Korean food for the first time.
Do like Korean food? Do you have a favorite Korean food or dish you love? Have you tried making Korean food before at home? Would you like to take a Korean cooking class? Let us know in the comments below.

Korean Cooking Class in Seoul, Korea | Learning How to Make My Favorite Korean Food:
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world.
Our most recent trip was to South Korea where I embarked upon a two-week adventure without Audrey. Invited as part of a YouTube vlogging trip, organized by KTO, I spent the first week traveling with other YouTubers in Seoul, Busan and Gyeongju. My second week included independent exploration of Korea with my good friend and fellow YouTuber David of DavidsBeenHere.
Having lived and traveled in South Korea, the chance to return to one of my favorite countries was one of the biggest surprises of 2019. On this particular trip, I had an opportunity to do many things I had not previously covered including a visit to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone between South Korea and North Korea), a Buddhist Temple Stay and a Korean cooking class. It was almost as if the program designed by KTO knew exactly what I had missed out on before.
Obviously, a huge highlight from the two weeks I spent revisiting Korea was the food. I feasted on all of my favorite Korean dishes including Korean barbecue, dolsot bibimbap, haemul pajeon, tteokbokki, bulgogi, kimbap and many others. I can honestly say that Korean food is world-class and is one of my top 5 favorite cuisines in the world. Aside from trying familiar dishes, I had the opportunity to sample raw Korean seafood for the first time.
While visiting Seoul, highlights included going to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Namsan Seoul Tower, Jogyesa Temple and Hongdae. As one of the biggest cities in the world, I barely scratched the surface of things to do in Seoul.
Spending extended time in Busan was my favorite part about the trip with top highlights including a Korean temple stay, fresh fish markets and a Korean baseball game. It was from Busan that we ended up taking a day-trip to Daegu where we enjoyed a traditional Korean market and tried Galbi-Jjim for the first time.

Seoul to Busan KTX Train Ride (Economy Class Review) + Delicious Korean Breakfast
Come join us for a Seoul to Busan KTX train ride as we continue our adventures in Korea by taking a high-speed Korean train crossing the country and then having a delicious Korean breakfast upon arrival.
David's Channel:
Waking up bright and early we headed over to Seoul station arriving shortly after 5 am. We grabbed a gimbap Korean breakfast on the street (Korean rice rolls) before heading into the station. The KTX high speed Korean train from Seoul to Busan takes anwhere between 2 hours and 20 minutes to just under 3 hours to arrive depending on the amount of stops made.
Korean trains are extremely punctual so arriving on time is important. The economy class is spacious, clean and perfect for either sleeping or catching up on a bit of work with your laptop. You can charge your electronics and there is free wifi as well as storage for your luggage.
The scenery along the way was fascinating as we passed by big cities such as Daejeon and Daegu but spent most of the time going by rice fields, mountains and forests. It was a very scenic journey.
For breakfast in Busan we grabbed bibimbap and hopak juk (Korean mixed rice and Korean pumpkin porridge). It was a delicious Korean breakfast and a great way to kick things off in Busan, Korea.
