From the ruins of the Tsunami Damage, new creation admist the destruction gives way to the promise of the future. The host for the first Kabushima New Years Festival (I have attended each year for the last 3 years now, this is the first time a big festival was held) read out messages of encouragement and with the City head (I believe Mayor), did the count down and welcomed in 2012 with some spectacular fireworks.
A word of note:
I am not a video guy! So the whole aspects and proper views? I did the best I could.
This clip will be used in an upcoming short film I am doing. So, consider this a preview.
Happy New years and let's begin the countdown to our deaths at the end of this year by aliens or The world ending or Galactic alignments or whatever else is thrown at us by those lovable conspiracy theorists!

Adventures of my life in Japan....again...! Kabushima Shrine-A small island where the black tailed seagulls which dwell in small places in Asia, live from May until winter in Hachinohe. Known as the island of the God's and a historical landmark. The sound of the gulls is also one of the famous soundscapes of Japan. The gulls are messengers from the Sea Goddess to show the fishermen where the fish are and to bring them good luck in their catch and may it bring them prosperity.

Here's Kabushima Shinto shrine in Aomori Prefecture Hachinohe City in Japan. About 30,000 black-tailed gulls come flying to this islands at the breeding time. The black-tailed gulls of kabushima do not fear human. The spot that can approach the wild bird like this might be few.

Japan, Part Three — Hachinohe City
Japan is my favorite place on the planet and I recently got to spend a week there as a guest of the Japan National Tourism Organization, and here's what happened. This is our third leg, a visit to the city of Hachinohe. It was a quick visit, but we managed to visit a 242-year old sake brewery, an island where 40,000 black-tailed seagulls breed, and a restaurant to learn about the city's annual Bouillabaisse Festa. Black-tailed gull swallowing a fish, 黑尾鷗吞魚
The black-tailed gull (Larus crassirostris) is a medium-sized (46 cm) gull, with a wingspan of 126–128 cm. The bird is resident in East Asia, including China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. It is a vagrant to Alaska and northeastern North America.
It has yellow legs and a red and black spot at the end of the bill. This gull takes four years to reach full adult plumage. As the name suggests, it has a black tail. The bird has a cat-like call, giving it its Japanese name — umineko, sea cat, and Korean name — gwaeng-yi gull, which means cat gull. In Hachinohe they are one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan.
The black-tailed gull feeds mainly on small fish, molluscs, crustaceans scraps and carrion. It often follows ships and commercial fishing fleets. It does steal food from other seabirds.
It is a colonial nester, with colonies forming in mid-April. 2–3 eggs are laid by early June. Incubation lasts approximately 24 days.
An enormous gathering of black-tailed gulls can be found at the Kabushima Shrine at Hachinohe, Aomori, Japan. This Shinto shrine was raised by fishermen in 1269 (though it has been rebuilt several times since) to honour the black-tailed gull, which is seen as a messenger of the goddess of the fishery. For over 700 years, the species has enjoyed reverence, feeding and protection from the local population. As a result, every summer, over 40,000 seagulls nest and raise their young in the grounds of the shrine and the surrounding island, which has been designated a National Natural Treasure by the government of Japan. The seagulls are very tame and are a popular local tourist attraction.
黑尾鷗（學名：Larus crassirostris）是一種中型海鷗，身長大概45厘米，翼展大概126至128厘米。這種雀鳥聚居於東亞地區，當中包括中國、台灣、日本和韓國，也會到阿拉斯加至北美洲東北部分一帶漂泊。黑尾鷗長有黃色的腳，鳥喙末端上有紅色的斑點，繼以黑色環帶，腰尾白，冬季頭頂及頸背具深色斑。幼鳥多沾褐，臉部色淺，嘴粉紅而端黑，尾黑，需要四年才羽翼豐盛達至成長期。正如名字所說，牠們擁有一條黑色的尾巴，並會發出像貓叫的哀怨叫聲，所以在日本被稱作「海貓」，在韓國則為「貓鷗」。
黑尾鷗的主要食糧為細小的魚類、軟體動物、甲殼類海產與其內臟。牠們經常跟著船隻與漁艇覓食，也會從其他海鳥偷取食物。每年四月中旬，黑尾鷗會連群結隊地築巢，在六月上旬會生兩至三隻蛋，孵卵期為二十四天。
