My visit to Kaeson youth park, Pyongyang, DPRK.
As a theme park enthusiast, I guess it's interesting that my itinerary in Pyongyang includes this.
The park, located near the Kim Il Sung Stadium and Arch of Triumph, has about 10 rides like the swinging hammer (from China), freefall, a lying down roller coaster (from Italy) as well as a arcade room. Although, comprising only of an area of 40 hectares (yes, smaller than the usual theme parks in China), the park is well maintained.
According to my guide, people pay for each ride at $1-2 usually and of course, it’s free for us. He also mentioned there’s 5 theme parks in DPRK.
We went in the day time so there were hardly anyone.
I enjoyed the bumper cars, can you imagine delegates from all over the world as well as North Korean happily bumping into each other! Just amazing how everyone has a kid in us. The barrier and any distrust, just disappeared. Priceless experience!
Kaeson Youth Park, Pyongyang North Korea
The renovated Kaeson Youth Park in Pyongyang opened in spring 2010. It features new (italy-made) rollercoasters, auto-scooter and a freefall-tower and is open daily from 7pm to midnight (according to our guide).
As you can see, there were a lot of people, but we did not have to wait in the queues.

A 360° image from the Kaeson Youth Park in downtown Pyongyang - not quite the abandoned, white elephant many think it might be. Usually full of families and young soldiers having fun in the evening (at least the more well off ones, based in the capital city)! =]

The Kaeson Youth Park built at the foot of picturesque Moral Hill in Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is daily crowded with working citizens and schoolchildren.

At Kaeson Youth (amusement) park, speaking with a group of 14 year olds about the park, whether they'd come there prior (yes, many times), if it was affordable (yes, inexpensive) and what their favourite ride was. Later in the week I saw another amusement park. Seems like DPRK authorities actually provide affordable entertainment to youths (and adults) in addition to the (free) impressive extra-curricular education/cultural/sports programs at the Children's Palace.

Z-force drop tower at Kaeson Youth Park, Pyongyang
A 60 meter drop tower (Zamperla Z-force) at the Kaeson Youth Park in Pyongyang. Nice view from the top, with the Arch of Triumph (of course a bit higher than the one in Paris...) just outside the park. In any other city in the world you'd also have a brilliant view on the city skyline, but in Pyongyang, only darkness....
