2017AW Theme ～Chikara in Minami～
Japan Senses focus on Southern Kyushu,with powerful climate and grandmagnificent nature. We propose Oshima Tsumugi, which has a history of 1300 and known as one of the three greatest fabrics of the world. This time, two regions Amami Oshima and Kagoshima cooperate with each other,and offer new values and possibilities.
Oshima Tsumugi will be presented at the “JAPAN SENSES, the Oshima Tsumugi STORY connecting to the future”, held at the ISETAN Shinjuku store. From collaboration pieces with “theSakaki” and “Sasquatchfabrix,” to art pieces by Ms. Reiko Sudo, the fabric designer / design director of “NUNO”, and Mr. Kounosuke Hattori of , you will be able to see many pieces that will introduce you to new attractions of the Amami Oshima Tsumugi.

今回のジャパンセンシィスは南国の力強い気候と雄大な自然にはぐくまれた九州をフォーカス。1300年の歴史を持ち世界三大織物の一つといわれる大島紬を奄美大島・鹿児島2つの産地と連携し、その歴史と共に新たな価値・可能性を提案します。
theSakaki（ザサカキ）や Sasquatchfabrix.（サスクワッチファブリックス）など、ファッションブランドとのコラボレート作品から、テキスタイルデザイナー／NUNOデザインディレクター 須藤玲子さんや＜クチュリエ＞の服部幸之助さんによるアートピースまで、奄美大島紬の新たな魅了を感じられる作品を多数ご覧いただけます。

“Authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi (Pongee)”
A spiritual textile born in Amami, the silk road of the ocean
The Oshima Tsumugi is said to be one of the three top textiles in the world, along with Persian carpets and Gobelin tapestry.
It has existed from approximately 1,300 years ago, from the Nara era in Japan. Today, it is manufactured in various areas of Kagoshima Prefecture, but because its roots are in Amami Oshima, officially it is called “authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi”.
Mud dye, which is made possible by the iron rich mud created by Amami’s nature, dyes silk threads into a beautiful, shinny, deep, rich black color. The delicate graphical splash patterns that are drawn by a gathering of over 10 million dots is reversible, characteristic of plain weave. Made through a manufacturing period of over six months, and approximately 40 creative processes, the authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi has many one-and-only unique characteristics.

About Amami Oshima:
Amami Oshima, located approximately in the middle of mainland Kagoshima Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture, is the 3rd largest remote island in Japan. There are many natural and scenic sites on the island, such as Kinsakubaru Virgin Forest where mangrove and other subtropical plants grow, along with rare animals, Ohama Coastal Park famed for its beautiful sunset, and Ayamaru Point where one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

海のシルクロードと言われる奄美が生み出すスピリチュアルなテキスタイル“本場奄美大島紬”。
大島紬は、ペルシャ絨毯、ゴブラン織りと合わせて、世界三大織物とされています。
約1300年前、奈良時代から存在し、現在では鹿児島県内各地で製造されており、そのルーツは奄美大島にあるため、正式には「本場奄美大島紬」と呼ばれています。
奄美の自然が生み出す鉄分豊富な泥が可能にする泥染めは、絹糸を美しく、光沢を帯びた黒色へと染めてゆき、1000万以上の点の集合体から描かれる精緻でグラフィカルな絣模様は、平織り特有のリバーシブル。製造期間半年以上、約40にもおよぶ工程からつくられる本場奄美大島紬は、唯一無二の特徴を持っています。

奄美大島とは：
鹿児島・奄美大島は、鹿児島県本土と沖縄県のほぼ中央に位置する、国内で3番目に大きな離島。マングローブや亜熱帯植物が茂り稀少な生物も生息している金作原（きんさくばる）原生林、夕陽の美しい大浜海浜公園、水平線のパノラマが広がるあやまる岬など、多くの自然と景勝地を有している。

久しぶりに帰った祖父母の家で、子供の頃の思い出を巡って撮影しました。

Sweat glands and tear ducts drained from an all-night farewell dance rager, JETs of Japan's most southerly regions Sunday morning-lazed under a tree at Dolphin Port, Kagoshima City.

A crane bound for Izumi resting grounds flew overhead. Make a music video, it honked. OK the JETs cooed back.

A Japanese dance team practicing by the water keenly joined. Travelers hydrofoiling to meet Princess Mononoke on Yakushima reveled in the sight of East and West super-colliding. North Korean spy satellite monitors wept with joy.

This is a short film showcasing just a few of Kagoshima Prefecture's (JAPAN) beautiful scenery from the air.

Kagoshima is prefecture in the Japan southern Island of Kyushu. It is blessed with an abundance of islands and nature. Although not visited by as many people as Kyoto or most well known destinations in Japan, it truly is a must to come and visit.

The city is overlooked by an active volcano called Sakurajima and it usually erupting with ash almost every week. In this video you can see the sunrise behind Sakurajima and also the ferry that plies people and cars across to the other side of the bay.
