Kairakuen - Japanese Garden, Ibaraki ᴴᴰ ● 偕楽園 水戸 茨城県
► Kairakuen is a Japanese garden located in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture. Along with Kenrokuen and Korakuen, it is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Kairakuen was built relatively recently, in the year 1841 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki.
While worth a visit throughout the year, Kairakuen is most attractive during the ume blossom season, which usually takes place from late February until middle of March. I am gonna show you what that looks like in this little video-tour. Also, a small peep into a Koubuntei - a traditional Japanese style house, situated on a hilltop in the garden. - Enjoy

Kairakuen Travel Guide
The Kairakuen was a landscape gardening project started by Nariaki Tokugawa. The park opened in July 1842. The name Kairakuen comes from a saying within The Book of Mencius which states, The ancients would share the pleasures with people, so their pleasures would be hearty and deep.

Plum Blossom Diary | Kairakuen Park 偕楽園
It is plum blossom season in Japan. Let's go check out those sweet sweet plum blossoms in Kairakuen park.
Kairaku-en (偕楽園?) (English: A park to be enjoyed together) is a Japanese garden located in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan. Along with Kenroku-en and Koraku-en, it is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Kairakuen was built relatively recently in the year 1841 by the local lord Tokugawa Nariaki. Unlike Japan's other two great landscape gardens Kenrokuen and Kōrakuen, Kairakuen served not only for the enjoyment of the ruling lord, but was open to the public. While worth a visit throughout the year, Kairakuen is most attractive during the plum blossom season, which usually takes place in late February and March. Besides the plum tree forest, where one hundred different plum tree varieties with white, pink and red blossoms are planted, Kairakuen also features a bamboo grove, cedar woods and the Kobuntei, a traditional Japanese style building. While entry to the park is free, entry into the Kobuntei costs 190 yen. Tokiwa Jinja is adjacent to the gardens.

Japan’s Amazing 100m Art Tower Mito
It’s one of Mito city’s attraction since 1990, the Art Tower Mito (ATM) certainly makes you stop and stare when you see it. It's exactly 100 meters high and was built to celebrate Mito's 100th anniversary.
On a trip to Mito, Jennifer Julien and I made a stop there to get a view of the city at sunset.

Mito Kairakuen
Mito is the capital of Ibaraki prefecture, which is located to the north-east from Tokyo. In Edo period, the lord of Mito was considered as a third most powerful position in the country after shogun and his heir. Some of Mito lords made great contribution to a cultural and political development of Japan, so Mito has many interesting sights worth to visit. It takes just one hour in Super Hitachi express train, and one can get from central Tokyo right to the one of three famous gardens in Japan – Kairakuen. This park was built in late Edo period by Tokugawa Nariaki, father of last shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu. As soon as Nariaki came to power, he began to implement various reforms with regards to economic stability and the military government. He also developed hunting, inspected the clan's domain, and created the Kodokan and Kairakuen. Kairakuen was seen by Nariaki as a place where one could come after intense training to relax both his mind and body. So, today in the park one can find Japanese plums, a cedar forest, bamboo trees, cherry blossoms, azaleas, Japanese clovers, and truly enjoy four seasons. In early spring, about 100 different types of plum trees bloom with a total of 3000 flowers, making Kairakuen extremely popular among Japanese people.
Right in the center of the garden there is another project of Nariaki - Kobuntei – three-store wooden building, which is very rare type of construction for that time.
Apart of the main house for Nariaki’s family, there was also a one-store annex – the nobility’s private quarters. Nariaki would invite writers, artists, and residents of his domain to Kobuntei and hosted parties, like composing of Japanese poetry, enjoying sakura or plum blossom etc. Kobuntei features a remarkable variety of painted fusuma (sliding screens) made of cryptomeria (Japanese cedar wood). Each room in this house has featured with various beautiful flowers and trees painted on fusuma.
