Late Visit to Hanamiyama - Cherry Blossom Mountain
I went to Hanamiyama last minute to see cherry blossoms to get an unpleasant surprise and ended up talking nonsense to amuse myself.

Tendo Park :

Sorry, today, not one day for pictures. Had a 5 a.m. bento + cabbage salad breakfast from Family Mart. Nothing special to show y’all. At 9:00 a.m. I went BURA-BURA. Walked the street in front of the train station. It goes up hill a loooooong ways. It went sooooo high that the short buildings around were taller than the 24-story Kajo Center where I started from. After about ½-hour, I saw a sign for Momiji Koen(Momiji, i.e., Maple Park). Made a 4 block detour, and saw the entrance blocked by some big guys. I went up and said eh bruddah, can I walk around? He said no sweat! There were elderly ladies all dressed up to da nines (is this the correct term?) in their elegant kimonos. One of the ladies said something to me and I said sorry no sabe Japanese too good, I from da USA. She said ohhhhhh tee hee hee! OK, so I went ask her, why you folks dressed so elegantly and she said they were having a tea ceremony event. Wow, was nice but I didn’t dare point my camera at those elegant ladies without permission. So I just went about my business taking photos of the maple trees instead of those elegant kimono-clad wahines to show y’all. I bet some of those kimonos cost more than my one year social security payments. This momiji park is touted as a nice place to view the fall colors. Well, I’m a little too early for that so I went continue my BURA-BURA. After I walked for about another 1/2 hour and I stopped at a temple which was up in the forest and my calves were complaining a little bit. Good thing I’ve been doing my regular walking and running. I took some pictures of the hydrangea flowers (ajisai) because they have festivals celebrating this flower.
Then back down the hill. Got tired so rested my doggies (feet – what’s da slang term for this?) at Gusto restaurant. Of course had to order something to use the facilities so I got me a glass of red wine, a dish of fried onions and then one mug of beer to top it off. Then went BURA-BURA some more. Found an ancient site but when I looked at the trails (all grass/dirt) I decided not to climb up. The board at the trail entry shows some of the stuffs found there.
BURA-BURA some more and it was 2 p.m. and after being on my feet 4-1/2 hours+ I got a little bit tired. Went into a Sunkus convenient store and got me a beer. I went ask da wahine whea da train station and she said kinda far! She said she can call a taxi for me and I took her up on that offer. The nearest train station was close by with the taxi but I didn’t know the schedule and didn’t want to wait so I told the driver, I can’t speak Japanese but hope you understand that I want to go to Yamagata station instead. He got me there. Cost about $15 to get back to my hotel. Then I found I didn’t have my room card (key). I went to the front desk and they told me I left it in the on/off slot! Da nerve!
OK, took a shower, rested a bit and then went BURA-BURA again! Eh, I never went take a nap! I am not thaaaat senior! So I went out and saw this Okinawan restaurant. Went in and was told they open at 6. So I went BURA-BURA a bit and ended up at this izakaya called Shirokiya. Ate some stuffs and at 6 p.m. headed toward the Okinawan restaurant. I was kinda full so I only ordered musubi and rafute (boiled pork). They had several kinds of musubi so I ordered sea veggie musubi. Eveything was ONO except I was so full from eating at Shirokiya earlier, that I couldn’t enjoy all the other Okinawan dishes. At least I had a mug of Orion nama beer!
Viewing Cherry Blossoms in Uji Japan
During my travels in Japan, I went to Uji to experience the tea ceremony. When I finally arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the trail of cherry blossom trees along the river. This was my favorite cherry blossom viewing in Japan so far.
